If your opening is too small, the Dr can fix it fairly easy. I would check with him because you don't want to get dehydrated. When I eat tuna, I mix it with cottage cheese. But you have to remember to take small bites and eat slow. I can't have water 30 min before and after meals.

There is so much we need to learn and re-train ourselves. I try to put small portions on my plate, but sometimes even when I am full that old habit of clean your plate happens. I think if you experience the pain of overheating a couple of times, you learn that is not a good option. Head hunger is hard, but DL gives some very good suggestions.

How much protein are you getting daily?

Shmily, I was on liquid for 3 weeks, puréed for 3 weeks and then soft food for 3 weeks. I still use and like protein shakes. -

They gave me a formula to calculate my protein intake based on height. My minimum grams of protein is 92.04. But you should follow your Drs recommendation. I get my protein from cottage cheese, string cheese, ff milk, eggs, but mostly from protein shakes and beverage supplements. -
I finally got salads at 11 weeks.

It takes time for your pouch to heal. Drink your protein and get plenty of fluids. I was not that hungry at first, but almost 4 months later, I get hungry and my tummy growls.

A bunch of little pebbles for quite a while.

I would not survive without MFP. They also tell you how to change your amounts, so I upped my protein goal to fit my requirements. I post every day after each food intake/meal.

Vacation question for a preop nebie
Judyr replied to crissymcclendon's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My Dr had me on 3 weeks liquid/protein shakes, 3 weeks puréed food and 3 weeks soft food and then moved to regular food. Took longer to get lettuce. Not all Drs are the same. Was not eating very much when the 9 weeks had passed and had to gradually add food. Cottage cheese and avocados helped a lot. -
How much weight did you loose on you preop liquid diet?
Judyr replied to Boobear7's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Terry, we have almost the same statics. My weight loss has been slow, but good for 3-1/2 mos post op. I am happy now and not concerned with the numbers like I was in the beginning. I wish I had taken my measurements in the beginning so I could see that loss. Just have to go by the clothes I get rid of because they are now too big. -
I recently had a spell where I was hungry all the time. I upped my water intake to try to fill up. Drank more protein and ate a lot of chicken broth. The hot soup seemed to feel good. Fruit will help with the sweet cravings. Atkins has some bars that are really good and that helped. At first I ate too many(2), but now I really pace myself.

How much weight did you loose on you preop liquid diet?

My ins and Dr did not require me to lose weight post op, but I used protein shakes and bars to replace some of my meals and lost 10 lbs right before surgery. I think it helped me with the adjustment of post op. Had 3 weeks liquid, 3 weeks puréed and 3 weeks soft food. -

I changed my goals for protein to over 90 on MFP. I am trying not to eat over 900-1000 cal, but so hard. I feel like I am hungry all the time. But last night was the first time I made myself throw up because my chewable vitamin c got stuck. They chest pain was horrible. But doing good for 3 mo post op, know of people that happens to a lot. -

Thanks for the input. I use My Fitness Pal to track my food. They are constantly telling me to eat 1200 calories. -
Dee, I love your post. Thank you.

I went to my Dr for 6 wk check up. Asked about the fact that I have not been losing as fast as some of my FB friends and also had 2-3 wk stall. I was told that because my BMI was low to start with, I would lose at a much slower pace. Was also told that because I am 69 that I would also lose much slower. So I decided not to get on the scales that much and be happy with the fact that what I most wanted to accomplish was getting off my medications. I no longer take 5 medications and of the 3 left, they are at half the dose of pre surgery and 2 will probably be gone soon. So my clothes are way too big and I am definitely losing inches. I am happy, forget the scale, it just depressed me and I am happy for what I am doing to make myself healthy. I will get there, no rush.

My Dr told me that because I had a low BMI to start with, and also my age..69, that I would lose at a much slower rate. At least that explains 6 lbs in 6 weeks. I have made a pack to not get on scale very much so I won't get discouraged. I love that your grandkids are helping you. Because of my back injury on Thanksgiving, I am not getting in the exercise I need. Am going to try harder in the new year.

Seems we are all suffering the same journey. Stupid stall. I have lost inches, but nothing like a lot of my Facebook friends.

Thanks so much. I know I am not getting in enough calories. I get my protein in at least. I did eat a whole bowl of chicken broth yesterday. It's the most I've eaten since surgery. Hopefully I can find more to eat now. Coming off puréed foods on Monday. Maybe that will help if I can find something appetizing.

Wow. My surgery was 11/19 and I have had an almost 3 wk stall. I have only lost 6 lbs in the last 3 1/2 weeks, 36 total. I am so disappointed. Now I see a 1/2 lb loss maybe once or twice a week. My granddaughter says it may be because of my age...69. Also, I have not been able to walk that much since I wrenched my back on Thanksgiving. I guess it will eventually come off, just feel like so many others are so lucky to see big weight losses. My clothes are getting a little big, but nothing like the size drops I hear about. Just discouraged.

I would not wait. Talk to your Dr now. Post op I was on liquid diet for 3 weeks, now 3 weeks puréed foods and then soft foods on my 7th week. You need time to heal your new pouch. I know from talking to a lot of people that Dr instructions can vary, but check ASAP.

Don't take the calcium at the same time as your iron and C. It counteracts the iron. I usually take it a couple of hours later.

Thanks everyone for the info on gummy vitamins. It seems no matter how much we think we know, we can always learn more. Unfortunately, I am going to finish what I bought because I don't have a lot of money to replace them right now. I do have some chewable, so will try to mix it up a bit. Had been having some stomach pain. Wonder if it could be related to the vitamins? Just a thought.
-
What kind of vitamins do you take? Guess I need to get rid of my gummy vitamins or spread them out until they are gone. I have another one that is chewable, but really tired of it.

I've been eating some gummy vitamins. What is the problem with them?
