  1. Anyone have ideas for not sweet Protein shakes??? I bought some strawberry smoothie powder and mix it with skim milk so that's 38g of Protein but it's too sweet!!! I can barely get it down!! I have tried adding Greek yogurt to it and cottage cheese but didn't help :(

You can try doubling the liquid, but if that doesn't do it you may just have to try another flavor. I suggest the unflavored and then you can mix it in something that you know you like the taste of.

  2. I had mine on the 30th and should be getting out of here today!! I can't wait. I some dull pain in my left side and it hurts when I take a deep breath but I'm refusing my pain meds. They taste terrible & it makes me gag which is worse than the pain I have.

I had my sx on the 24th and that nagging side pain thathurts when you breath for me lasted until about day 8 but got better everyday as long as I walked...good luck

  3. I had my surgery October 23' date=' so I'm currently 9 days post op. Feel great (other than still being a bit weak/tired) but I'm hungry ALL the time!! The Nut said we wouldnt have any hunger so I'm perplexed!

Also, I can eat up to a cup of cream Soup or a whole yogurt at regular rate & have no probs. Have even gulped my Protein shake (by accident, wasn't paying attention) & nothing happened.

I dont go back to hospital til end of Nov[/quote']

I had my surgery the 24th and have the same things...I feel great since about day 4, but I get hunger pains and have been eating & drinking at normal rates with no issues. I have a 1 week post-op Tuesday and will let you know what he says.

  4. I am having such a horrible time right now. I'm glad to read that others are doing better gives me hope but then I wonder if I'm not healing fast enough. Monday was surgery day and today I'm still the same as yesterday.

Everyone heals at a different pace and you may have days where you don't think there has been any improvment, but everything I have ever read or heard says that walking and staying as active as you can when you can is key. I am a nurse and I know that this is true when any of my patients are ill, when you are sedimentary, blood and oxygen do not circulate as well and your muscles, when active, promote circulation, strength and healing. Another thing that I see with patients and was true for me for the first few days is, do not be afraid to cough as much and as forcefully as possible as you can. This too increases oxygen circulation and keeps anything from settling into your lungs and causing more problems. I was very afraid to cough after surgery, a low O2 level almost kept me in the hospital an extra night, my surgeon came into my room and said, "cough, you can not undo anything I did", so, I coughed and went home a few hours later. Sorry if I seem like I'm ranting, it's hard sometimes to seperate the patient and the nurse. Good luck and walk, even if it is around your house in 5 minute sets.

  5. I had my surgery on 10/24/13...I was in pain for a few days and then just right rib pain for a few more days. I found that everyday I walked, the pain was less the next day and Day 7 I was in no pain at all and actually felt hunger pains. I started full liquids today, I never thought I'd be so happy to see cream of mushroom soup!!

Down 20lbs since I started the pre-op diet!!!

  6. It's not a secret, just something you are choosing to not share, the word secret has negative energy attached to it. Anyone who questions your decision, has no idea what you are going through and therefore, is not qualified to have an opinion. I am a nurse, there are some people at work who know and being nurses they only see the bad cases, the success stories don't need a nurse. So, needless to say, many of them tried to change my mind, but it was my decision to what is best for myself and my family. If you are at peace with your decision, no one can change your mind. You should hold your head high, you are actively doing something to better your life, how many of your critics will honestly be able to say the same???

  7. This is a very personal decision and it is your right to keep it personal. You should never feel bad or guilty for doing what is best for you. My surgery is in 2 days and there are a lot of people who I haven't shared it with. When you feel comfortable, share...If you never feel comfortable, don't....Good Luck! :)
