    Trader Joe's

If you like cilantro their chile and cilantro chicken burgers are good. All I can say is read, read labels so you don't get anything that's not going to work for the plan your on. Also almonds from there is a good protein source. Make sure they have no sugar listed on them with the salt because some stores not necessarily traders but some stores have them that way. About the nuts it depends on what stage you're at in your plan if you can have them or not. Traders is a fun place to go but be careful what you choose so you can stay on your plan your nutritionist and surgeon gave you. Enjoy.
  2. You must take in all of your protein it's number one and number two is your water. If you don't you won't heal properly. You should take to your surgeon or nutritionist about this problem of not getting in your protein and ask them what they suggest you do. Now that being said here are a couple of suggestions. Try using Jay Robb protein powders they are made with Stevia and are not as sweet as most protein powders I find. They mix well with milk or water. Their is Unjury chicken soup protein powder that will give you 20g of protein per serving. Some people here use Isopure protein drinks that have 40g of protein per bottle. Use unflavored protein powder and add your own sweetener to your liking. Good luck in finding something that works for you.

    If YOU knew then...

I watched myself before surgery and exercised. I lost more then the required amount that they asked me to and I'm glad I did. I had one last meal before my surgery of a burger and homemade chips plus dessert. I still eat burgers without the bun and my dessert now is applesauce instead. The only thing I sorta regret is not doing this earlier in life but I wasn't mentally ready for it until last year. I would do it all over again. Good luck to you.

    RNY 4/2009 Now frustrated!

To be honest I would make the trip once a month to the surgeon and nutritionist just help you get back on track and to make sure you're okay or see if you can do it via corresponding with them on your computer. Have them contact your primary physician once you've established yourself with the surgeon and nutritionist to coordinate the proper way to take care of you. Have the surgeon and nutritionist write them a letter or call them of what needs to be done for you on a regular basis and why. Maybe this way you might get the care you need. Another thing you could do is going to the next bigger town to a doctor who is more open about taking care of you and will work with you. Look on your computer and see if anyone works with Bariatric patients some where closer to where you live. Research as much as you can. Well these are my suggestions do what you will with them. Take care.
  5. Jay Robb protein powders use Stevia as their sweetener. I use them and have had no problems. You might want to give them a try.

    Nervous ..

I had no drains. I was a pain meds for maybe a week but didn't take them regularly. I was able to eat and drink fine afterwards. Started taking my meds whole pills the day after surgery. Just try to relax doing something fun to help calm you. Good luck with surgery.

    Vomiting and food stuck

It's not normal at all. If I were you since solids are not going down just to get enough protein in I would have protein shakes, Unjury chicken soup if you have it, puréed foods until you can get a hold of your surgeon to tell them your still having a problem. I also wouldn't wait until Monday I would call right away to tell them. You I believe have a real problem going on. Let us know what happens and how you are feeling.
  8. I would get egg white protein powder and use that. Use water instead of milk. You could get isopure protein drinks and they have 40g of protein in each bottle. Before you do any of this call your nutritionist or surgeon and tell them of the problems you are having and see what they say. You must have protein and water that's priority number one. Good luck.
  9. I took my pills the day after surgery whole. The vitamins you don't start for two weeks after surgery and those should be mostly chewables so they absorb properly. If you need help with what to buy for chewables just ask and we can answer that or your surgeon will tell you. Congrats for having decided to have surgery.

    Post op weight loss question

I would say it might take a week maybe for the gases and fluids from the IV to flush out. Make sure you walk several times a day that will help, with releasing the gas. Make sure you get in your fluids in the way of water that will help flush out the extra IV fluids. If you are really concerned about this you can always call the surgeon's office to question them. That's what they are there for. Take care of yourself and congrats on having your surgery.

    Biotin

I use TwinLabs chewable biotin and I feel it's made a difference. Also my nails are healthier. My surgeon and nutritionist recommended the use of it.
  12. Reflux is the biggest problem with those surgeries. The likely hood of them getting worse is higher. I originally was going to have sleeve because I didn't want to be rerouted inside but I had reflux and Gerds so my gastric doctor told me I would be most likely be sorry if I did it and should have the bypass like what my surgeon first told me to do. I am so glad I listened and had the bypass because I'm much healthier now and my insides are working fine and I eating well too. I watch to stay away from foods that they told me to and I've had no real problems at all. My advise is discuss it with your surgeon and study every piece of information you can get your hands on. Best of luck to you in your decision and surgery.

I would say two weeks is average before going back to work. To rhfactor272 yes your recovery time will be longer. The best to you both.

    Gaining weight

Stay off the scale every day it's is very detrimental to your mind. You get very frustrated doing that. If you have to weigh at home do it once a week always at the same time of day wearing the same thing each time. Trust me you will be happier with your progress this way. Now if your not drinking all your water you will be come dehydrated and that would mean a trip to the ER to get IV fluids in you. You just can't function without it and you won't heal properly either. Let us know more about what's going on with you. Good luck in your success.

    Stretch Marks

I can't get rid of them either. I guess you could use the same stuff a pregnant woman uses to help with stretch marks. Go to your pharmacy and ask what they recommend. Let us know if it works.
  18. I just saw my PCP and she was so pleased with my progress she insisted on taking my picture.

You look great, more importantly, how do you feel? If you feel as good as you look you are doing very well.

  19. Did you do a lot of activity while on vacation? I personally would stop eating the junk because it just might catch up with you. The whole idea was to stop eating like that and get healthier wasn't it? Just because it might go through you doesn't make it okay it still can effect your health. I know I'm lecturing to you but that's just how I feel about the subject you wrote about.

    Hairloss question

I have real fine thin hair to begin with and I had hair loss. But I feel not as much as I would have if I didn't take biotin chewables from Twin Labs. I keep my hair real short so it's not as noticeable I don't think. Hair loss can also be hormonal. Remember your body went through a big change and still is and your hair will come back.

    help

If your not going to follow what your surgeon and nutritionist planned out for you then why bother. They do that so your body heals meaning your new stomach properly. You could do real damage if you don't follow the stages of eating as laid out for you. I know I'm being harsh but I really don't want you to have any problems if they can be avoided.

It's perfectly normal to feel what you are feeling. Don't doubt yourself that you're not capable of doing this. Just take it slowly one step at a time and one stage at a time. Yum-O

I use sugar free Torani all the time. If you like gingerbread that flavor is great tasting. I love adding them to my shakes.

    post op!

They should give you something so you don't vomit. Please ask about that. My understanding is vomiting is bad for the pouch and staples in there. Sorry you had a reaction that's to bad. Once you can have liquids and can get up out of bed each day will get a little easier for you until the surgery will be a distant memory. Remember if you're not sure about something or something their doing ask what's if for or the purpose of it. You are the one in control. Feel better and rest as much as you can.
