    Got my date...

That's great that you have a date for surgery. I see you're happy to start this new chapter in your life. Congratulations and the best of luck.

    Really!?!?

In my health club they have vending machines with junk in there. Thank goodness it's not on the side of the building that I exercise in. I think it's terrible that they have it. I would never touch the stuff anyways because I always go to the gym on a full stomach and with plenty of water.

    Sugar grams

High sugars and fats, like fried food is a no, no with bypass surgery. The surgeon and nutritionist will tell you that this can cause dumping. Dumping is horrible and lasts hours before you have relief. It can be severe pain, severe diarrhea, gas pain, throwing up. Very unpleasant. Some will tell you that they have gotten away without this problem but generally speaking I personally would not take the chance. It's up to you to decide if you are going to follow what the surgeon and nutritionist tell you to do and not to do. Only you can make that decision. Now you can have natural sugars like from fruit. Also sugar grams under 10 grams per serving is what you want to look for in choosing foods that contain sugar in their ingredients. This info came from my nutritionist and yours might say differently so go by what they say.

    Questions...

You should ask your surgeon if that's okay because they are the only one that can give you the okay for that. IMO you won't feel like it that soon after surgery. The pressure on your incisions will be bad and could hurt or do damage. Once again ask your surgeon if it's okay. Can't emphasize that enough.

How long be for i can go two the gym

Take it slow. I can't emphasize that enough. You must listen to your surgeons recommendations about this. Like others have said no weight lifting until your surgeon clears you for it. When I went back to the gym I only did the tread mill and worked up. Walking now is the best exercise you can do and don't over do it. Also if you have a dog that is very obedient then you can walk it but if it's a dog that pulls you then get someone else to do the walking of it until you heal more. I wasn't allowed to exercise until one month after surgery at the gym. I wasn't allowed to lift more the a few pounds until after the first month then only 10 lbs after that for the next month but that was me. Again I emphasize talk to your surgeon about exercise. Take care and congratulations.

    Exercise

For easing into exercise you will most likely have to wait three to four weeks because you can't lift anything over 5 lbs until then. You can do some walking everyday after surgery but no running. To jarring. What have said is what was told to me by my surgeon. Your surgeon might have different rules. Majority of people on this site would say the same thing about exercising. Good luck with surgery.

    New Here too!

You must remember that sugary foods and fatty foods can have an adverse effect with gastric bypass. Try finding healthy alternatives to these things and you will be happier in the end IMO. I don't have any fried foods and for sweet things I have sugar free pudding or sugar free Popsicles. I also buy Quest protein bars to first help get in my protein but also because they are sweet, come in many flavors and the satisfy me very well. For my protein shakes I kick them up a notch with sugar free Torani syrups which come in a multitude of flavors. This also will help with your sweet tooth. Now these are suggestions and you have to be the judge and jury of what you do. No one can decide but you of how you are going to follow what your surgeon and nutritionist program they set up for you. Good luck with your future surgery.

    Just had surgery

Yes it is perfectly normal. Follow the directions of your surgeon and nutritionist of what to be having and how often. Fluids and protein are a must to make sure you don't become dehydrated or not heal correctly. Take your time in eating and drinking even if you don't want to do it it anyway. Welcome to a new and healthier you. Be proud of yourself. Congratulations.

    3.5 weeks out

You're doing excellent..... Never ever compare yourself to someone else or let someone else compare themselves to you. Remember each weight loss no matter what size it is a big accomplishment. It means you're that much closer to your goal. Relax and gives yourself a break. Take it easy and try not to go on the scale more then once a week. Any more then that and it can be frustrating. Also always weigh at the same time of day, wearing the same thing each time, and you will get the best results. Take care.

    Protein Shakes

With proteins you have to be careful with hot because the protein will clump. The tomato or chicken soups have to be with warm water so that the soups don't clump. If you are putting flavored protein powder in lets say sugar free jello you have to put it in when the liquid has cooled off then mix in the powder till it dissolves. If you out it in sugar free pudding you will have no problem. You could add some powder to cream of wheat cereal to help get in your protein. You could add it to crystal light in your water. So there are several ways of using protein powder to help get in your protein for the day especially in the early stages after surgery.
  14. I took them the day after surgery my pills. Never had liquid of anything. Good luck with your surgery.

    The Last Straw

I was originally going to have the sleeve but two weeks before surgery that all changed when my gastric doctor said that I should change to bypass because of GERDS. I had bypass and I'm not sorry. I think I had dumping once because I over ate. It's horrible and I won't do that again. As for bowel problems that's really not a problem any more. Had loose bowels after surgery which is uncommon. When I got on solids that went away. It's okay to be unsure but it will really be okay as long as you following all instructions from the surgeon and nutritionist. Good luck.
  16. Avocado does not go with the pre op diet at all. Once you have had the surgery down the line a few months then you can have it in moderation. Avocado has good fats in it but it's still fat and you have to be careful. Pickles are not raw vegetables and are full of salt and will make you retain fluid which you don't want. If in doubt about anything contact your surgeon or nutritionist for help. That's what they are there for. Good luck.

    Fatty Liver Disease

I also had fatty liver and it went away with surgery and weight loss, so try to relax and after you know the test results. From there you will take action to improve it. Let us know what happens. Take care.

    Chewing gum

It puts air inside your sleeve which will cause gas. This is also true for gastric bypass patients too. This is what I was told by my nutritionist and surgeon.
  19. Ice pack usually helps with swelling. I would contact your surgeon and ask if you could take liquid Benadryl for the itching or use a topical Benadryl for the itching. Feel better.
  20. You look wonderful. Great job at getting healthier. Continued success to you.

    Older GBS

I wonder if you ate something to salty and retained fluids. I am a firm believer in not stepping on the scale at home because it can be self defeating. If you really have to weigh yourself at home do it once only, wearing the same thing each time and at the same time of day. Feel better about this it will come off.

    Is being frustrated normal?

You are having probably what they call buyers remorse that you can't have certain things any more. I love popcorn but I have come to the conclusion that I rather not have a problem eating it and getting sick. When my husband eats it it makes me a little crazy but I get over it quickly. Being healthier and smaller is better then eating food that will bother my pouch. Feel better and it does get easier to cope.
  23. I once was a size 34/36 and now I'm a size 12 pant and large top. I have reached goal but my surgeon would like me to get smaller so my BMI is in the normal range. I'm going to try to get down further and see what happens. I hope I can get to where they want me.
