It is a real daily struggle for me, but I just this past few weeks am now able to get in 48-60 grams of Protein and 48-53 ounces of liquids. I do still get at least a day or two every week, where I fall short due to stomach pain. I have been struggling with more pronounced food sensitivities since the surgery. And if you add having a stressful or upsetting day... forget about it. My lil stomach has a tantrum! But just keep plugging away at it. Every day is a new day to strive for your goals!

Emeree got a reaction from Alex Brecher in Did You Have Complications After Weight Loss Surgery?
6 months after my RNY I had a serious complication of a huge hernia and my intestines twisted up and choking off my lil pouch. I had it repaired.
However, from that point on I still have trouble reaching the calories I need. So this past mid December I was checked internally. Nothing found, but my surgeon put a gastric feeding tube in me to help me reach my daily calorie an Protein goals. Here I am in February and now 18 months out and it is slowly getting better but I still need this support until I can consistently eat on my own without trouble. By the way I have a lot of food sensitivities and I have fibromyalgia, which make it really challenging at times.

    Hi, M!
Thank you for asking. I usually don't even open the e-mails from the WLS sites anymore, but for some reason I opened yours :-)
I'm doing better. I'm finally gaining weight so now the fear of being "huge" again is scary. I still love food . Unfortunately, I've come to realize that one addiction leads to another. If you don't figure out why you over eat in the first place , have this surgery it's not uncommon that we substitute food for something else . My late brother in law , same surgery, Sam ages and had surgery one year after me found alcohol which damage his kidneys more and costs him his life. I turned to drugs. Thank goodness I got caught. I actually came out on my own. What a relief. It almost cost my marriage, my family, my kids . I've lost so many cars from wrecks. My husband left me. We are working on saving our marriage. So far it's going well, but it hasn't been long. But I'm determined and have a wonderful support system. My parents and older sister have been my ROCK. I WOULD NOT BE HERE IF IT WEREN'T FOR THEM. I was at my breaking point but no one knew. Suicide was ALWAYS on the brain.
Lost all self esteem , due to my on going dental issues. Missing most teeth when I use to beautiful teeth. I wouldn't look in the mirror even while putting on make up or brushing my teeth. Much less want to talk to ANYONE. Which led to wanting more drugs.
Luckily, I have the MOST INCREDIBLE PARENTS. I'm over coming having all my rotten teeth pulled and dentures made THANKS all to my mom and dad. They are a HUGE BLESSING.
I appreciate you asking . That was nice. Made me think maybe my story can help just one person and that I should keep up with this more. Especially since my REAL story doesn't end just at the take down surgery. There's more complications that go on that are hidden very well from some some. It's a very dark and lonely place.
    Again, thanks.
    Michelle

Hi Flygirl, I am a revision from band to RNY and although it has been a huge learning curve with regards to what foods I can/can't tolerate and a few starts and stops, I REALLY LOVE my new tool. I think you will love it too! I should have done the RNY to begin with. Good luck and feel free to ask me anything!

What I learned about non-family support, it's one of two things, one the maybe scared for you and don't know how to relate it to you, or the May become jealous of your transformation. My husband didn't support me at first, when he start seeing my change and how happy I was becoming, he final was honest, that he was fearful. Your family need to be educated about the surgery, then they may have a change of heart, but if not, cling to the people that support you whole heartedly because you will need it, this transformation is also a mental change. Good luck.

Relentless you have us! They are probably nervous. However, if they think this is the easy way out, they are sadly mistaken. This is definitely one of the hardest things I have done. Rentlentless, none of us have chosen wls as our first resort. This is definitely our last resort. We have tried diets, pills, exercise, both healthy and unhealthy. We have been hopeless, depressed and alone. Don't let anyone take your joy and determination from you

If I didn’t have a sense of humor, I could never have survived 60 years of living, including 2+ decades of morbid obesity and the 6+ years of my WLS journey. Don’t get me wrong – I took my band (and later, my sleeve) surgery very seriously because I felt that this was my very last chance to get healthy – but laughter is part of what makes my life happy, and makes it much easier to bear my ridiculous fear of starving to death.

Today’s episode is: I’M GONNA STARVE! That title is exactly what I thought in the beginning about my post-op life – Deprivation! Suffering! Starvation! I know I’m not alone in this because through the years I’ve seen so many posts on the “When will this get easier?” theme.
To reach the easier part of my WLS journey, I had to do some mental, emotional and spiritual fine-tuning. The idea of a middle-class woman living in a rich and obese country like the USA actually starving to death was and is absurd. Absurdity is ideal material for a comic strip. I hope you’ll get a laugh or two from I’M GONNA STARVE.

OMG I love pancakes...... I will try this. I make a ricotta pancake that's pretty good and super simple. It's 1 egg, 3 tbsp. whole wheat pancake mix, 1 TBSP sf butterscotch pudding mix, 1 TBSP of Torani SF Syrup (Caramel or cinnamon and brown sugar are good), 1/2 c low fat ricotta. Mix together and fry up. They are super fragile and sometimes come out looking like "scrambled pancakes" but they are sooo good. Top with sf jam or sf syrup.

I know there's a lot of recipes online for Protein pancakes, but I'm not a big fan of cooking and even less of a fan of grocery shopping, so I thought I'd wing it with what I had in the house this morning. I made 1/2 batch of Bob's Red Mill Buttermilk pancakes with 1% milk and added 2 instead of 1 egg and a scoop of powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury Protein powder. It made 8 pancakes...I ate one and froze the other 7 for future "grab and go" microwave breakfasts. I had no Syrup in the house so I topped it with a little bit of butter and a pinch of sugar (yes, REAL sugar) with a side of 1/2 sausage link. YUMMY!!!
For those of you who count calories and stuff, I did some calculations as I was mixing. I normally don't track anything, but don't worry, I got all "A's" in math.... Turns out each pancake (without the butter and sugar) has about 3.5g carb, 5g Protein, and 54 calories. Sorry, didn't look at the fat numbers. Anyways, it was a nice change from all the eggs and oatmeal and yogurt and shakes I've been having for Breakfast, and I'm stuffed!

4/10/14, it was my 10th month Surgiversary and I passed my surgeons goal, I have lost 100 lbs., I am now at 135, yay me. I am wearing a size 4-6, and loving it, I have no saggy skin, just a little bat wing but nothing major. My muscle tone is good, I've made major career changes, I quit my professional job to do something I've always wanted to do, I'm in Cosmetology school full time and loving it, so I don't regret any of my decisions and plus my husband and daughter has been very supportive. I've attached a few pics:

ShaKazi, I don't know what it means or exactly why, but I think our bodies sometimes need to adjust and make sure that we are not harming ourselves with the reduced amount of calories so it conserves from time to time. Check to make sure you are getting enough protein. Try increasing the water, reduce the coffee, increase exercise and see if that helps. sleep and stress can play a role in making weight loss more challenging. I don't think you should worry since you are still losing inches and weight (even though it isn't as much as you would like). After tweaking a few things and it is still slow in the next month, perhaps speaking with your NUT may help. I don't know anything else to share. I think you are doing great so don't give up and take it one day at a time. Hope this helps.

You think that is tough. Wait until everyone stops eating and stares at you as if you were some kind of phenomenon. and then you get irritated because you want them to stop it. Then there will be a time when you look around and will start seeing them all eat and you will think..What I eat this much and am alive.. What are they doing to themselves.... Right now your experiencing this..Later it will be turned around and you will be so pleased you have your bypass protecting you.....trust me!!!!
I say it all the time about my sleeve..I am so glad I have it!!!!!!

I have been having a hard time getting all my Protein in so I was looking online and I found New Whey, it's a 3.8oz and it has 42g of protein in it, they look like those little 5hour energy's. GNC and Vitamin Shops have them but I found a variety pack on Amazon it ended up being 30.95 with shipping. So they should be here in a few days and I will give you an update! Fingers crossed that would make life so much easier!

Emeree reacted to Alex Brecher in We're launching BariatricPal Local Chapters!
    Dear BariatricPal Members,
We are pleased to announce a new program called BariatricPal Local Chapters! This program will be an addition to the support that BariatricPal already provides to members. BariatricPal started as an online resource for hundreds of thousands of potential and post-op weight loss surgery patients. Many of you visit the site regularly to receive and provide tips and encouragement, and just to hang out. BariatricPal Local Chapters extends our online community into the real world.
BariatricPal Local Chapters includes live, in-person meetings with local BariatricPal members. We know the significance of support group meetings before and after weight loss surgery, but not all patients are able to attend live meetings in their areas. BariatricPal Local Chapters can help fulfill this need by providing the support for regular in-person meetings in neighborhoods around the country.
    BariatricPal Local Chapter Meetings
Most meetings will follow a standard format that includes introductions followed by the day’s main activity, and finally a discussion or question-and-answer session. The main activity of the day can be a lecture on essentials before and after weight loss surgery, such as nutrition, exercise, overcoming obstacles, and building a support system. Other activities might include group walks, cooking demonstrations, presentations by visiting bariatric surgeons, cosmetic surgeons, or nutritionists, and clothing exchanges.
Do You Want to Be a Group Leader?
If you are friendly, enthusiastic, and committed to fighting obesity with weight loss surgery, we want you to consider becoming a BariatricPal Local Chapter Group Leader! Energetic group leaders are key to success. Your roles as a group leader will include:
Scheduling times and places for Local Chapter meetings. Planning group meeting agendas including scheduling guest speakers, reserving facilities, and arranging for supplies when necessary. “Hosting” group meetings by leading the introductions and leading or facilitating the main activity and question-and-answer sessions. Leading group discussions or lectures when they are the main activity of the meeting. Reaching out to members to help you in regular tasks and fill in for you when you cannot plan or attend a meeting. Making all participants feel welcome. Does this sound like something you can do? BariatricPal will provide support to Local Chapter leaders, including developing guidelines for running meetings and materials for group discussions.
    Here’s What to Do!
If you are interested in being a BariatricPal Local Chapter leader, please use the BariatricPal Local Chapter directory. Click N EW LOCAL CHAPTER to create a new chapter and follow the simple instructions on how to get started.
Please feel free to post questions on this thread. I am excited to begin BariatricPal Local Chapter meetings, and I hope you are, too!
