  1. I also had mine on 12/31. I'm finally feeling human again this afternoon. Working on meeting my Fluid requirements. I have absolutely no interest in food. This is very new to me.

Congrats! And it is very strange. It is hard for me to get in fluids or Protein because I just don't want any thing. I could go all day but of course my surgeon just said..well would you like me to admit you now because the hospital is where you will be! Lol. Which I know but it's hard. I did much better today! So weird not wanting to eat anymore!!

  2. I am more than happy to share my experience. 18 years ago the hospital had me on solid food before I could leave. Now it is liquid to purée for almost all surgeon's programs. I was also never given pre or post surgical nutritional guidance. That is now a requirement by almost all insurances that are footing the bill. I was also not told to withhold fluids 30 minutes before, during and for 30 minutes after each meal. I was never given instructions regarding between meal Protein supplements or even how much protein to target each day. Most importantly, I kept pushing the boundaries and desensitized myself to the physical effects if dumping so I could eat absolutely everything I ate before surgery. I went into the surgery the first time at age 25 thinking it was a magic cure and I wouldn't have to sacrifice long term. That was very wrong. 18 years later, I could eat the same volume of food I could before the initial surgery. I had stretched the pouch and the anastomoses. I even caused the intestinal tract connected to the pouch to become distended. The surgeon decided that long term results are poor for fixing the pouch issues but evidence shows long term success with the roux limb lengthening. My initial limb was about 50cm. The surgeon says the standard now is 60 to 75cm. He lengthened mine to 180cm. That is roughly six feet of small intestines bypassed for increased malabsorption. I am very fortunate, my same surgeon who did the initial surgery also did my revision. He is now the Director of the Bariatric Center of Excellence for the largest health system in Northern Virginia. I trust him enough that my husband had initial RNY with him two weeks before my surgery. He is doing amazingly.

So happy happy for you that you were able to have this done! I am also in Va! Richmond :) Had RNY on 12/17. Good luck to you and your husband both! My husband has been dieting with me and plans on having the surgery as well at some point. It's great to have that support!

  3. Rdc guess what? I found muscle milk last night at one if our big heb stores! I got chocolate is that good? I am 27 lbs down from pre op and 23 from surgery! Yea for us!

That's awesome! I haven't tried Muscle Milk since surgery but I used it before surgery. They have a Cookies n cream and also banana creme too! I was hoping for more loss by now but I ended up back in the hospital last weekend ..my blood pressure dropped. So maybe the fluids I got..who knows.

  4. I am like mrs Jekyll And mrs Hyde to put it mildly! There are just times I am sooo hormonal that the food frustrates me! I am suppose to start soft foods jan 2! What is y'all's opinion of me doing it two days early?

I'm 2 weeks post op today. I've been on pureed food since I got home. Week 1 I was not eating much just liquids, shakes and some Soup. But lately as long as it's something I can eat like fish or veggies. I make sure to chew very well and it's pureed before it goes down. I haven't had any issues. Everything I've eaten has went down very well. I will have pain once in in a while from drinking to fast. Sometimes ice Water is so good I just go to chug it and obviously. .Can't do that!! Lol. Soft foods for me start now but I have my 2 week post op thursday so I will see what he says!

  5. Dr I am soooo over shakes and puréed foods! I am sick to death of Soup soup and more soup!!!!!!!! I cannot eat some things as they remind me of vomit!!!!!!! I am so hormonal and eating this crap just irritates me more! I need to eat but I just had Protein Shake for Breakfast so now what?

I found a New Whey Protein tube at Walmart it's a little less than 4oz. It doesn't taste bad and I'd much rather drink that than a 8-11oz shake. Plus it has 42 grams of protein

  6. Hello December Post ops! Hard to belive surgery is behind us and we are on the losers bench! I started my pre op diet on 12/2 and surgery was 12/17. Total weight loss has been 25lbs and 14.5 of those pounds since surgery. Truly I struggle with Protein and water..probably Water more than protein. I'm just not interested lol. But I'm doing my best and better each day. Water, shakes and food go down with no issues..no pain. Get some gas after drinking fluids...find myself burping a lot. I will start soft foods next week and I can't wait! Lol. I am never really hungry so I try to go in order of a shake, water, then food. .usually water again..then a shake, then food. Of course time in between but I try to eat 3x a day but that's rough. I'm just over pureed foods. Once I have more options I think I will be better!

Sorry guys this was for the post op thread but hey! Lol. Sorry!

  9. What are you guys wearing when you go places? I can put on my jeans BUT my tummy doesn't like them! I have one pair of grey jogging pants that are oh so comfy but I can't wear them everyday! I guess I need to go buy at least another pair!

If it's public I wear sweats..if it's family I rock my pajama pants! Lol. Jeans rub where my worst incision is and my incisions are looking so good I won't dare chance hurting them. So hoping to get into some jeans next week. I did slip mine on to see if they fit different. They are a little bit loose but after 25lbs lost I was expecting a bit more. Oh well!

  10. Apparently according to some others being moody is normal ! What I was told was that as our bodies lose weight rapidly it releases hormones! I was told that it's like having a girl going through puberty!

I have realized when I start getting very moodu. It's time to eat. I have a rough time remembering since I don't get hungry but I think my blood sugar drops some. I eat a littke. And I'm good lol

  11. Hi I was 12/16 and am curious for those of you around that date what you're eating. I am having Soups and just added in some eggs and cottage cheese. I probably pushed it a little today with 1/2 of a meatball and a piece of ham but those things went down easier than some cream Soups I have had. Thoughts and how does this compare to what you all are eating and your doctor's suggested plan?

    Thanks!

I'm about the same. Ham for me too. I took very soft pieces and chewed it very well. I finally knew what it meant when people say " it felt good on my pouch". So I've had that here and there the last few days. I got some cheese grits and one instant pack last several meals. It's not a lot of Protein but I needed something. eggs have been good. I hade purchased yogurt and baby food for fruit. Does not appetize me AT ALL. I bought some frozen fruit tonight. I thaw thaw a piece or 2 at a time and it's cold and did very refreshing. Oh and I've done salmon. I bake that and mash it up real good. Great protein! That's pretty much it! I go to soft foods next week. Pretty excited! Lol

  12. some people suggest adding them to Sugar Free Chocolate Syrup or applesauce. Also some add them into Protein drinks.< /p>

That liquid potassium is no joke. They gave me that in the hospital. .one sip and I told her they better find me a shot or something because there was NO way that was going down. And I'm usually usually a suck up kinda person..I'll do what's required but that stuff was impossible. She put it in a small cup of apple juice for me. It helped but still a no go. Good luck :/

  13. I am really emotional too. Glad to know I'm not the only one. I found myself holding back tears all morning and not sure why. I feel bad because I don't want my family to think they are upsetting me. So this evening instead of watching them all eat Christmas dinner I came back to my house to try to get back to my routine. Maybe that will make me feel more like me again. I'm only 8 days post op but ready to get back to normal as possible.

I am the 17th as well and literally just in the past 24-48 hours I've been like ok where is my life ? I'm bored and finally getting some energy back so today I cleaned house, did some dishes and even made my husband dinner. It felt good to move around and do something. Tomorrow organizing my daughter's play room is on the list because it looks like Christmas threw up in there haha. I also will have her back tomorrow..she has been at my mom's when my husband works..He works nights and I can't lift her ( she is almost 2) so picking her up is pretty much a must but it's been long enough and I finally have the energy to do so! Emotions stink! I hope u are feeling better. When I see pounds coming off that always helps!

  14. Merry Christmas Eve!! So my very sweet neighbors brought a bucket full of homemade goodies. When I came back inside I opened it and just laughed. Last Christmas me and that bucket would have been sitting on the couch! But I closed it back up and will give it away! Weighed myself today and I and 283.3. That's about 22lbs since 12/2 and almost 10 lbs since surgery on 12/17. Today marks 1 week post op. I can get down with 10 lbs a week! Lol. I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas. food will be tempting but WE CAN DO THIS!!!

  15. Hi All! I found you! Lol. RNY was on the 17th. SW eas 292.9 however I came home weighing 304lbs!! But today I am 289.7lbs! I guess that's really only 3.2lbs from surgery weight but I'll take it!! Going great. Minimal pain. Never hungry nor thirsty. Working on a schedule for that and vitamins!! Hope all is well with u guys!

  16. Hi everyone! Surgery was 12/17 @ 8am. The surgeon said everything went fantastic and he was impressed with my liver! Now that made me happy bc I worked really hard on my diet. The 17th was rough. Almost had to let the nurses see my other not so nice side because they took WAY to long to give me my medicine. But the quoth was better. Still in this odd scrambled guts pain..Very weird. I had had a hard time feeling full or if anything going down hurt bc I was already in pain! But I woke up about 5am Thursday and was in no pain! Minus getting up and down or standing at first but that was nothing. I have had no problem getting Water or broth down. Had my first shake yesterday. ..actually got 2 down! So total of 58 grams Protein and about 25 ozs water yesterday. Pretty good for first day home I'd say! I can had pureed but right now I'm concentrating on the fluids. I did have 1 oz banana yesterday that set well and I was FULL. Super strange but glad. I have yet to have the remorse feeling or miss food or crave anything. Just praying that continues for a while!!

  17. I'm new here and have been going through this process since February of this year. After years of battling numerous health issue, including Diabetes, Hypertension, Severe Asthma among others...my primary Dr had begun talking to me about surgical options. After a lot of thought and consideration I made the decision in May to proceed with a Roux en Y procedure. The insurance company had extensive requirements and after 6 months of their programs, I received my approval 2 weeks ago!!!! My surgery is setup for December 26th (Merry Christmas) and the surgeon is requiring a 3 week liquid diet. I am 1 week into the liquid diet and I feel HORRIBLE! My daily intake consists of a Protein Shake for breakfast, a sugar free greek yogurt for snack, a cup of Soup for lunch, a sugar free pudding for afternoon snack and a bowl of cream of wheat for dinner==800 calories/day. I have 2 weeks of this to go yet...does it get easier? Does the body adjust? I have lost 11 pounds in the last 6 days which is exciting...but hard earned. I know I can do this...but does it get easier?

Yes it does!! And welcome! My pre op was 2 weeks. It can be rough at first but it becomes normal. Once my body was used to it my head had to get involved. Lol. So then I did that battle and now I'm pretty good. 4 mote days of diet and then surgery on Tuesday!!! So happy for you. I am finally not nervous...and only excited! I love u!
