  1. I take the sugar free viactiv soft chews. they taste like eating a tootsie roll. I take 2 a day.
  2. My biggest obstacle so far is that I don't drink enough. I've been so concerned with getting the eating right and making sure I have all my Protein that I forget that I have to drink a certain amount per day as well.

    recipe book?

My Dr also recommended Eating well After Weight Loss. Very good book. Breaks down what phases you can eat certain recipes.
  4. I had my surgery on March 6th and have only loss 27lbs so far. Is this normal? Is anyone else having the same issue? I've been walking some but I have a bad knee so I can't push myself like I need to. Eating has been good and I'm consuming between 600 and 800 calories a day. The fluid intake is getting better. So I can't seem to figure out what I'm doing wrong. Could really use some advice.

    Slow weight loss

I'm 9 weeks out and I consume around 700 calories in a day on average. sometimes less but it really depends on what i'm eating. I get my Protein from skim milk, greek yogurt, cottage cheese and fish mostly. I also eat string cheese on occasion as well. refried Beans are a great source of protein I have found out and they fill you up. When I really need to get my protein in I will drink a Premier Protein shake as it has 30grams per container.

    Depression after RNY?

the medicine I'm taking helps to stabilize my emotions. you usually have to ween yourself off the antidepressants. i've never heard of anyone having withdrawals when they stop taking them. the only thing i can tell you is that if your emotions are getting in the way of your weight loss plan then it wouldn't be a bad thing to get a little help until you have reached your goal.

    Depression after RNY?

Yes I only had 1 appointment. I've been on it for a couple of months now. Not sure how long I will be on it. Guess until I feel like I don't need it anymore. But I'm in no rush to stop taking it as I'm feeling good most days.

    Depression after RNY?

It is something that is very normal to go through. There's a name for it actually..Like the mourning phase I think. It wouldn't hurt for you to talk to your PCP.

    Slow weight loss

Thanks ladies!!. I've been keeping track of my Protein and some days I do really good and then others not so good. I know I need to get it in. Hoping that's my issue. Will work harder to eat all the protein I'm suppose to eat daily.

    meal plan

Thank you James for posting your plan. Very informative. I am a research junkie and I knew lot of this before having my surgery but it does help to be reminded. Also I thought I just throw it in there that Dr Anita Courcoulas did my surgery and she is an amazing surgeon! Thanks for sharing. Phil..your weight loss so far is very good for being 6 weeks out from surgery. I had my surgery on March 4th and have lost 27lbs which is good for a woman. My dr tells me to eat my Protein 1st and then whatever else I'm having with it. I'm up to 2 oz of protein right now and about a 1/4cup of side stuff. I mostly have been eating protein and vegetables. I don't consume very many carbs yet as I havn't had the best of luck adjusting to them. And it's completely normal to have plateus. My dr says it will happen at various times and that's when I should start increasing my physical activity. I hope this helps.
  16. I use my fitness pal to keep track of my calories. Unfortunately there are going to be times when you don't always know what's in the food you eat so you just have to do your best to guess. If you want better results and more accurate calorie counting then you need to be preparing your own food.

    Post Op March 2014

As far as the gas goes it does go away. The more you move the more you should start passing. Also drink your fluids. It will help as well. My gas went away about a week after surgery. And as far as the liquids go sip 8oz over an hr. trust me it can be done. The hospital gave me medicine cups to drink out of at first but after I got home I felt it was a pain so i just measured and drank out of a normal cup. I was fortunate to not have any nausea so everything is staying down for me. I'm still on the clear liquid phase for 6 more days then I can start eating pureed foods.
