    Question on Smoking

Hi Cassi, I was in the same boat as you and quit 5/21/13. What helped me was focusing on the fact that either I quit or I would not get the surgery. That knowledge made me do it. As for how long, no one can answer that because every doctor has their own rules. I'd recommend you stop asap because I am sure there are doctors out there that will tell you they want you to have stopped for longer than others. Just focus on the goal, getting the surgery and losing your weight. The smoking will keep you from that. Good luck!

    Pain...Help!

Thanks for answering I appreciate it! This isn't surgery pain I know that one you are talking about well lol. I called my doc today and they said to take stool softeners and that I am not eating enough. I was hitting 700-800 calories a day with effort. They want me at 1200 which seems monumental right now. I can not believe that I am even saying that! Before surgery I could hit 3000 on a bad day So, I guess I have more meals to eat here. Thanks again!

    Post Op paranoia and questions

I'd say my limit is 6oz but that's definitely approximate. I guess I'm not sure how much I should be eating by now but no, it's definitely not a cup and a half. I can however drink an 8oz Protein shake in about 10 mins. People describe dumping as pretty awful and I haven't experienced anything really unpleasant at all. Don't get me wrong, I dont want to dump lol. I'm just trying to feel my way through all this and figure out what I can and cant eat. I've been light headed for what seems like ages now and definitely since the surgery. I'm not sure what that is about but my doc said it takes the body about 3 months to adjust to what it's been through.

    How much Calories are enough?

They told me to do the best I could for the first few weeks but the first 2 I doubt I had over 400 or 500 calories in a day.

    My 1st dumping?

Hang in there. It's really not that bad. I'm 2 1/2 weeks out and can tell you I thought it would be a hell of a lot worse! There are horror stories for everything but it doesn't mean you have to be one. Hang in there!

    Gas

Oh yes! I felt like I had lions in my stomach lol. Gas X helps but it was pretty rumbly for a few days

    How much Calories are enough?

Me too Vicki but I'm still so tired and that is frustrating me. I am glad to hear you can eat everything ok so far because so can I. I'm afraid of fruit though.

  12. Hi everyone, I had my surgery Wednesday morning and everything went well. I came home yesterday and the pain isn't too bad, I just feel generally icky. I'm sorry I didn't post sooner but I tend to keep to myself when I feel like this. I am thirsty and want to drink more than I am allowed. I've always drank a lot so 4 ounces an hour isn't great for me at all. I feel kind of nauseas and I definitely don't want to eat. Everything tastes sickening sweet to me. I tried some tomato Soup last night and that tasted good but my stomach hurt after because I drank some Water with it so I went over the 4oz. So far today I've had water and a bariatric Vitamin and that's it. I dont know how you are supposed to eat at these limits. It's not bad, I just feel ickier than I thought I would. Thanks everyone who sent a message to check on me! Lisa
  13. Hello everyone, I am new to this site, I just found it last night. I'm having gastric bypass surgery on August 7th and am on day 3 of the liver reduction diet. I lost weight all on my own and kept it off for 5 years. I have gained a great deal of it back and just don't feel like I have the strength to do it myself again, I'm tired of the constant fight with food. If I'm not eating, I"m thinking about eating. I am also a stress eater and have a lot of stress in my life that I can't get away from so I have to find a better way to deal with it. As I sit here tonight, feeling really empty physically, I am kind of feeling that way mentally too. I'm in a strange mood about the whole thing. I'm not really afraid of the surgery right now half as much as I"m afraid of failing again. I busted my butt to lose that weight before! I worked so hard. Yet, here I am. What if I fail again? I am more afraid of that than anything. I know I"ll lose the weight initially, but if I couldn't keep it off before why will this be different? That scares me to death! Talk about the ultimate failure. So, at least tonight, that is what is running through my mind and it has me a little down. I'm glad I have this site to read and hopefully get advice. Lisa

    anyone having surgery August 7th?

Wow that's scary! No, it hasn't happened to me. I'm sorry it took so long for me to respond to you but i didn't see this. I find the setup of this forum very confusing in regards to new posts. Its even worse on my phone. I hope you feel a lot better now! I have caught with nausea since surgery and i still feel lightheaded but don't know why. My followup appt is Friday.

    Nausea

I have always had a problem with constipation and it is normal to feel nausea when you are. But feeling that way really sucks and I'm sorry you feel so bad. I have been fighting with nausea since my surgery too and upping the water has helped me some. I wasn't told to limit the popsicles, hmmm. Definitely talk to the doctor and see what you can do to make you feel better. Good luck!

    I have a large lump!

I'm still very weak, it will be a week tomorrow and yes, it's normal. When I had my gallbladder out, the hardest thing was getting my normal energy back. Major surgery takes a real toll on your body and it takes a while to get back to yourself.

4 days pro op and feeling icky

I find that I am able to drink more today which is nice. However, although I'm not a bit hungry I have found myself thinking of food all day. Yuck

4 days pro op and feeling icky

absolutely. There is no way I'm getting in the protein I need right now but I did get in the water today. That seems to be ok in the short term, my doctor wasn't concerned. And, when I left the hospital they said to concentrate on making sure I had enough fluids. I'm hoping that as I feel better I'll be able to drink the protein shakes again. Even the best ones suck so lol I hate them. But I know that I need them.

    Two quick questions:

Hi Rick, Congratulations on how well you are doing on your diet! I really think you should talk with your doctor before going through this surgery. It's really intended for people who have to lose 100+ pounds. I totally hear you that you are afraid of gaining it back, I did just that myself. I lost 132 lbs on my own and then gained back about 70% of it. I think you should talk to the doctor you are most comfortable with like maybe your family doctor. Above all else, you really need to do what is best for your health.
  21. I've had a much better day today and it has been wonderful not to feel sick all day! The surgeon told me that the nausea will come on and off for a while. That sucked to hear. However, I am feeling better for now and starting to get excited about losing the weight. I am not at all hungry but I still am sitting here thinking about food I wish I could eat. I am sure my missing food will last a good long while. I want to thank all you guys on here that have supported me. I think a lot of the reason I was less sick today was that I didn't try to force myself to drink a protein shake. I'm just not ready for all that. You guys let me know it was ok to not be able to eat for a while and I'm grateful for the help! When the doc called to check on me today I told him I wasn't eating much at all and he didn't seem a bit concerned so it looks like you all were right! Thank you

    Major Nausea!

I have been plagued with nausea and my surgery was also on the 7th. I also had a headache to beat the band the past couple days but didn't take things for it because I was afraid how all that medicine would sit in my empty stomach. On the plus side, I feel much better today, no nausea. I have sipped water all day long and even had a little tomato soup. I hope tomorrow will be better for you but I'd slow down on the pills. If I took 2 tylenol 3's I'd be sick and you took 4. Feel better soon!

4 days pro op and feeling icky

I sure hope so because I really feel crappy. I have spent 4 hours trying to choke down a protein shake and just can't get the rest of it in. My stomach feels like it's going to explode just from that. I was afraid I was in a vicious cirlcle....feel sick, dont eat feel sicker. I'd rather just sit around and sip water for now if it's not going to hurt me. Choking these vitamins down now sucks the big wazoo too

    water making me sick!

I have to say, I never thought the day would come that I would be craving only water lol.

4 days pro op and feeling icky

Thanks everyone. I had lots of crystal light lemonade on hand and I can't even stand the sight of it it's so sweet now. I'm just concerned because I am eating so little and don't want to make myself feel even worse.
