  1. I had a funny experience during my Pre-op Endoscopy. I am a college professor and I teach Human Anatomy and Physiology (A&P) to students who are going into the Nursing Program. When they rolled me in for my Endoscopy one of the nurses on the team said I had been their A&P professor. Because I was doped up already and he was covered I said "Oh really I don't remember you". Afterwards I was somewhat horified I had spoken without censoring my comment and I have wondered ever since about the name of this former student. Of course I don't remember. My surgery is at this same local hospital so I am anticipating having some reunions with former students.

  2. Naynay you are so right. I have been so preoccupied with worries that the surgery wouldn't happen that I trully didn't expect it to go through. Actually last week something potentially catastrophic did happen. I called my family Physician to check that he had submitted the Letter of medical necessity and I was told he wouldn't do it unless I had a physical. Of course I have seen him 8 times in the last 12 months and he never mentioned the physical. They set the date of the physical for August 5th! I was freaking out until I called the surgeon and they said that they would submit the paperwork without the letter and that they didn't expect it to matter. In the end it didn't and I got the insurance approval. Huh... my story! Anyway...Good luck with your surgery. I will be thinking about you on Monday!

  3. Hi Karebear..

My surgery is in 9 days assuming all the moving parts line up (insurance approval etc.). I haven't had a chance to worry much about the surgery because of all the other crap worries. Just think positive and go for it! I hope you have a good experience! Get ready to start your new life!

  4. Wow Dawn...

You look fantastic. It is great to see a success story when one is getting ready to take the Gastric Bypass plunge! I'm about 10 days Pre-Op. I am nervous but it is more about the process and the potential for more unexpected snafoos! Maybe that is a blessing! In future I will seek you out for advice as questions arise. Thanks for making yourself available as a mentor!

  5. So… my surgery date is set for August 8th. Still there are some moving parts that have to come together for the surgery to happen. One of the requirements is for my family physician to write the letter of medical necessity. I was feeling uneasy so I telephoned my physician to make sure there were no issues. Holy Crap… he just hadn’t bothered to tell me I have to have a Pre-op Physical before he will write the letter and the earliest they can do that is August 5th. Realize I have seen him 8 times in the last 12 months! So I telephoned the surgeon’s scheduler and she said not to worry that she would submit to insurance this week anyway even though we are missing his endorsement. She doesn’t think it will be a problem. This is the first time she had run into this issue, after all I have had virtually every type exam known to medicine during the previous year! What disturbs me is the lack of information on what is required. The surgeon gave me a checklist but my family doctor left me flapping in the wind with his requirements. What a stressful process!
