1. It might be worth charting every bit you put in your mouth for a week. I know I have been a victim of "Eating Amnesia" in the past. It can really railroad you.

These days I am being very consious about my Protein intake. For Breakfast my options are Kashi GoLean Cereal, eggs with hot sauce, or a protein shake.

I eat every three hours like clockwork. Snacks are cheese, yogurt, nuts, or Protein To Go drink.

Lunch is either a Protein Shake or Soup with atleast 15 grams of protein and not over 300 calories.

Dinner is meat and veggies.

I don't know where I read this, I'll have to find my book, but for every gram of carbs you take in, you will hold four grams of Fluid to aid in it's digestion. When you reduce your carbs you lower Water weight and force your body to start using the Glycogen stored in your liver causing more weight loss.

So I would suggest really looking at your carb intake and promoting more protein as it feeds the muscle.

2. Do you have information on the other Protein options?

    • Milk Protein isolate---Muscle Milk
    • Milk Protein Concentrate---EAS
    • Calcium Caseinate, Milk Protein Concentrate, Whey Protein Concentrate---Pure Protein
    • Organic Sprouted Brown Rice Protein---Raw Protein

And my fav---Proprietary non-GMO protein blend (rice protein, pea protein and soy [isolated soy protein and fermented soy])---Spirutien

I thought all protein were created equal. Glad I'm learning before I spent a ton on post-surgery foods.

  3. I did call my insurance, I now know all of the requirements per them and am going to a seminar on the 14th.. now I just have to figure out if it would be more practical for me to do self pay considering they only cover half. And then try to figure out if getting that much extra money is even feasible lol

Did they have a lot of hoops to jump through?

I could never afford this surgery as private pay. I'm glad they loosened up on their restriction at my ins.

  4. From the booklet my surgeon has it says day 15 post op is Stage 2-pureed Diet.

That's everything from stage 1, of course, and add:

    • Pureed chicken or turkey with no skin
    • Pureed fish (water-packed tuna)
    • These soft fish should be mashed very fine with a fork: Haddock, tilapia, cod and salmon
    • Pureed tofu
    • 2 scrambled egg whites or 1/4 cup of egg substitute
    • Pureed fat-free refried Beans
    • Cream Soups made with fat free milk
    • 1% cottage cheese
    • Ricotta cheese
    • no sugar added applesauce
    • mashed banana
    • mashed potato
    • canned vegetables pureed
    • pureed acorn or butternut squash
    • pureed sweet potato
    • cream of wheat
    • oatmeal

Eat 1/4 to 1/2 cup of the pureed Proteins four to five times a day and 1/4 cup of the fruit, vegetables, and starches two times a day

  5. The Psych eval is to make sure you understand what you are signing up for and to see if you have any underlining issues that need to be addressed before hand.

    My journey involved:

    Information meeting

First meeting with surgeon-----decided on which surgery and how much pre-surgery weight loss

    Two meetings with Therapist

Two meetings with NUT---one was to talk about what weight loss expected and second was fasting blood work and clearance because I lost the required weight

sleep Study--I had already done this

    Cardio eval

    Gastro eval

    Endoscopy

    Upper GI

Last Meeting with Sergeon ---next week

    Surgery---2/11

  6. Hello

I have heard many different stories from people I know about the requirements and everything leading up to qualifying for the surgery.

    Not from MI here.

Wouldn't it be wiser to call your insurance company and have them send you the requirements and costs?

Also, sometimes the insurance requires less than the Bariatric Center. In my area one center requires you to pay for educational classes at $50 a class while others require you to lose 10% once you are in their program. My insurance requires none of these things. I just had to reach the BMI to be approved for full coverage. Not even a referral by GP.

  7. Surgery date February 11th here. I have my last Surgery Date this Monday the 13th.

I'm sweating getting these last 5 pounds, of the 15 I had to lose, off that I had off for my Nut Clearance but regained during the holidays. I doubt I will get them all off by then but I think I'll get close. Hopefully it's not a deal breaker.

I don't remember how much of a fast I have to do but I think it's no more than 3 days.

I give all you folks a lot of credit who are doing weeks of liquid diets before surgery.

  8. I'm not planning on telling many people. I am very private about that stuff. I wouldn't have a problem telling a half truth, i.e. having a hernia fixed.

Is there any reason you would have to tell him your having anything done? If you aren't available for a week or two could you get away with just not feeling well as a reason for missing?

  9. For those locals here, please keep in mind the support groups. I had my surgery done at Albany Med and there is a support group every Thursday at 530pm. It's at 25 Hackett Blvd in Albany, first floor. It really is a great group and all are welcome.

First off, AWESOME results. I'm so happy for you.

Although I am St Pete's, I plan on attending this support group also as I think I could use all the support I can get.

  10. I can say without a doubt in my mind that not only am I a "Foodie" but I am also a food Addict.

I gained weight in my early twenties when I replaced drinking and "partying" with food.< /p>

Addiction is when you aren't even hungry, just sitting there watching TV, and way in the back of your mind the thought of going into the kitchen to get, lets say, that bag of chips the kids opened last night. 'I know we have some cheese in there and maybe there a some refired Beans too. Oh stop, your not even hungry! Well there isn't really anything healthy in there for lunch anyways.' And as this conversation runs in my head, I am literally starting to feel a mini panic attack coming on. I am slightly shaking inside.

There is not other way to say it except IT SUCKS!!!!

  11. Another Patient of Dr Trivedi here.

    Question......

When I first met with Dr Trivedi we decided on a loss of 15 lbs. I cleared with Dr Lamanski, he is something else, back in Septmeber with a 20lbs loss. Of course since then I have gained back.

I met with Dr Trivedi for my physical on Janary 13th with a surgery date of February 11th. Do you think if I'm not back down to the 15 lbs he will cancel? I am 8 lbs over but plan on only being like 3 or 4 over by that date.

Since the first of the year I have been back on my shakes to get the weight off but that might not be totally possible in 13 days.

  12. I used to love love loooove sweets before my RNY!!! Now 9 months post op I don't crave them a bit, the smell of candy bars actually makes me feel sick!!! I tried I've cream twice and after 2 small bites of no sugar added I felt horrible and it tasted gross!!! So yes tastes change.

Do you feel that is due to negative physical reaction you had to trying to eat sweets or do you feel your tastes actually changed?

  13. Kashi GoLean Orginial is good too. One cup is a serving with Protien at 13 grams, Fiber at 10 grams, sugar only 9 grams and 160 calories.

I asked for a Yogurt maker for Christmas so my daughters and I are going to try our hand at making our own. My youngest is Lactose Intolerant so we are going to try making plain yogurt Lactose free so we can add stuff to it. We found some sugar-free syrups at wal-mart quite cheap.

  14. Mind u I haven't had my RNY yet.

I have found when losing weight I sometimes get into a vicious cycle. I didn't lose yesterday so I eat less today. Next day I jump on the scale and OMG I gained half a pound. So I eat less. Next day no loss. Then I get angry and have a sandwich and boom the next day down three pounds.

I have come to realize that if I forgo carbs or go under 800 calories in a day I will not be successful.

I'm not saying have a sandwich but maybe a V8?

  15. Yea I planned to have the surgery after Disney.. just incase I wasn't feeling 100% after. How long have you been considering wls?

Love it. I'm going to WDW next week. And then again next August for Hubbies 50th.

I'm hoping for a December surgery. All I have left is my meeting with the Gastro and then my Endoscopy and the insurance. My meeting with Gastro is the day I get back from Disney 10/18.

You all keep your fingers crossed for me that I get my Endoscopy scheduled quickly as I think there is a two month out waiting list for surgeries at this point.
