Albany/Schenectady buddies?!

I'm in Albany. My Roux en Y surgery is Tuesday.
  2. Today I started my one day of clear liquids. I still have so much to get done before Tuesday's surgery. I'm excited and scared at the same time.

    Dr Mehul Trivedi Albany NY

I'll be having my Roux en Y with Dr Trivedi this Tuesday. He is very charismatic. I look forward to both St Pete's and Albany Meds support groups.

    I need to vent!

I am actually sitting here with my mouth agape by the incredibly uncompassionate things being said here. I cannot imagine what would possess someone to come to a place of support and treat people in such a manner. How shameful.

This is why they say you can never go back. Her house, her rules. You're not talking about a lot of time before you are back driving so I think that no matter whether you feel that your mom is too harsh or not, it is her house. MAybe it might be more restful to go home and ask someone to do your shopping for you. If mom can't do the stairs I'm sure DS would rather empty grandma trunk of groceries than live with her. Being the mom of two teens, one with Autism, I feel I can safely say unless there is a disability a 13 year old should be able to assist in making meals for a few weeks. It has never hurt a child to have a task or two. While I am in the hospital next week it will be my youngest's job to make my puddings with protien powder and Jello and keep the kitchen straight.

    grr...medifast commercials. .

In the past I used Medifast for five months. If it works for someone that's great. But it isn't the "Right" way by far. Any time you replace healthy foods with a powder you mix with Water, it's not the right way. I think they might be hurting. For about a month now I have recieved an email from them daily. I use to get them maybe twice a month.

    Pysch eval..

It's mainly an interview to verify that you understand what a huge life altering process you are undertaking. They will also look at what support you have and what other stressors you have in your life. So folks have taken a lengthy multiple choice form as well.

    Best scale

I stand by my WiiFit. She's mean but it seems very accurate.
  9. I guarentee the smell is Ketosis not your drinks. http://www.buzzle.com/articles/ketosis-symptoms.html You can try keeping some mints of you but you are probably exuding it through your pours as well. Body spray isn't going to mask it. Normal BO is from the bacteria's byproducts , AKA bacteria poop. This smell is actually caused from the Ketones leaving your body as your blood dumps it. It is possible that raising your Water intake, not any fluids, plain water, may dilute it a bit.

Either way it will pass as your body gets regulated. Unfortunately time will not help your coworkers. They will still be A$$es.

    sleep apnea?

I was Dx with obstructive sleep apnea due to narrow throat. I had a Bipap machine for three months and hated it. I didn't feel as if I was sleeping better. I returned it. I do snore and of course snore worse when I'm heavy. But just 20 pounds lights and I snore less. The ENT Dr did say there is a surgery to remove all the excess flesh but I think I'll pass.
  11. I'm right with you with my fear of failure. I have failed so many times before. For me this is a last stitch effort as deciding to have this surgery was no easy choice.
  12. It might be worth charting every bit you put in your mouth for a week. I know I have been a victim of "Eating Amnesia" in the past. It can really railroad you.

These days I am being very consious about my protein intake. For breakfast my options are Kashi GoLean cereal, eggs with hot sauce, or a protein shake.

I eat every three hours like clockwork. Snacks are cheese, yogurt, nuts, or Protein To Go drink.

Lunch is either a protein shake or soup with atleast 15 grams of protein and not over 300 calories.

Dinner is meat and veggies.

I don't know where I read this, I'll have to find my book, but for every gram of carbs you take in, you will hold four grams of fluid to aid in it's digestion. When you reduce your carbs you lower water weight and force your body to start using the Glycogen stored in your liver causing more weight loss.

So I would suggest really looking at your carb intake and promoting more protein as it feeds the muscle.

Lots of questions! Lol

Did they have a lot of hoops to jump through? I could never afford this surgery as private pay. I'm glad they loosened up on their restriction at my ins.

    Pre-op appointments..

The Psych eval is to make sure you understand what you are signing up for and to see if you have any underlining issues that need to be addressed before hand. Lots of questions! Lol

Not from MI here. Wouldn't it be wiser to call your insurance company and have them send you the requirements and costs? Also, sometimes the insurance requires less than the Bariatric Center. In my area one center requires you to pay for educational classes at $50 a class while others require you to lose 10% once you are in their program. My insurance requires none of these things. I just had to reach the BMI to be approved for full coverage. Not even a referral by GP.

23 Days Post Op - No Appetite

I totally agree with you about too much sweet. Have you found some unflavored Protein powder? You could add it to Soup or broth or coffee. The down side is it can't be too hot of the protein gets all weird.

    Surgery date 02.10.2014

Surgery date February 11th here. I have my last Surgery Date this Monday the 13th. I'm sweating getting these last 5 pounds, of the 15 I had to lose, off that I had off for my Nut Clearance but regained during the holidays. I doubt I will get them all off by then but I think I'll get close. Hopefully it's not a deal breaker. I don't remember how much of a fast I have to do but I think it's no more than 3 days. I give all you folks a lot of credit who are doing weeks of liquid diets before surgery.

Have any issues telling men about your surgery?

I'm not planning on telling many people. I am very private about that stuff. I wouldn't have a problem telling a half truth, i.e. having a hernia fixed. Is there any reason you would have to tell him your having anything done? If you aren't available for a week or two could you get away with just not feeling well as a reason for missing?

    Albany, New York....?

First off, AWESOME results. I'm so happy for you. Although I am St Pete's, I plan on attending this support group also as I think I could use all the support I can get.

    BIG FAT PEOPLE!

I can say without a doubt in my mind that not only am I a "Foodie" but I am also a food Addict. I gained weight in my early twenties when I replaced drinking and "partying" with food. Addiction is when you aren't even hungry, just sitting there watching TV, and way in the back of your mind the thought of going into the kitchen to get, lets say, that bag of chips the kids opened last night. 'I know we have some cheese in there and maybe there a some refired Beans too. Oh stop, your not even hungry! Well there isn't really anything healthy in there for lunch anyways.' And as this conversation runs in my head, I am literally starting to feel a mini panic attack coming on. I am slightly shaking inside. There is not other way to say it except IT SUCKS!!!!

    Albany, New York....?

Another Patient of Dr Trivedi here. Question...... When I first met with Dr Trivedi we decided on a loss of 15 lbs. I cleared with Dr Lamanski, he is something else, back in Septmeber with a 20lbs loss. Of course since then I have gained back. I met with Dr Trivedi for my physical on Janary 13th with a surgery date of February 11th. Do you think if I'm not back down to the 15 lbs he will cancel? I am 8 lbs over but plan on only being like 3 or 4 over by that date. Since the first of the year I have been back on my shakes to get the weight off but that might not be totally possible in 13 days.
