  1. My doc and nut said that your body is able to break down real food Protein better than the supplements. They also warned us about protein bars. They said most of them are just a glorified candy bar and have lots of bad things in them. He said when choosing a protein supplement make sure to calculate the calories vs protein amount. Example: my Protein Shake mix has 30g of protein and it has 130 calories. Since each gram of protein is 4 calories I know that my Protein Powder only has 10 extra calories from the other ingredients. I just looked up a Quest Protein Bar and it has 20 g of protein and 170 calories. So 80 calories is from protein and nearly 100 calories are from other stuff.

I recommend adding egg whites to your drinks. You can't taste it and it adds whole food Proteins to your diet. I add mine to my Powerade everyday. I am going to drink it any way might as well get protein out of it. It is 3.3 g of protein per pump. I will add 8-10 pumps for my powerade. I promise you can not taste it' date=' but I have learned not to shake it up once added to a drink. You need to stir it. Shaking it just adds foam. My nut did warn not to get the grocery store egg whites as they are made for cooking. I have added a picture of what I use.

Do the egg whites have a taste or texture that you had to get used to?

  2. I had surgery on Friday August 9th ( 1 wk ago) I have six incisions and staples keeping my incisions closed' date=' which don't hurt or bother me at all. However I have a stinging, pulling feeling about 4 inches below my large incision on my left side, but it is on the inside of me that hurts, and there is no incisions where this pain is. It stings when I stand up from a sitting position, cough, sneeze. It doesn't feel like a pulled muscle, its more like a burning stinging pulling feeling...anyone experience this before??[/quote']

YES!!!!! Omg yes!! It's terrible isn't it? My father in law had laparoscopic surgery (gall bladder) and says he's had the same pain. I think it must be a healing muscle under the lap site. I don't know for sure....my surgeon hasn't replied to my email yet.

  3. I am so glad to hear I'm not alone with this. Even though' date=' I know this is one of the best decisions I will be making, I can't help but thinking of all the things that will go wrong. Not so much in the surgery room itself, but life after. Will I be able to eat, will I be able to drink, will I get dehydrated, will I end up in the hospital for a ulcer or hernia, will I be sick all the time....and the list goes on and on. I go from excited one minute, to thinking about cancelling the next. I don't think I'm having as much of an issue with the food persay. For me it is the coffee and diet POP, I don't want to give up. Ugh! And I thought all this emotional stuff was going to happen after surgery not before! Im trying so hard to get mentally prepared, but I guess I will have deal with things as they come.[/quote']

Oh I know what you're going through....I had the same fears Pre-op. and even just out if surgery. I asked myself "what have I done??" This is permanent!!! I just kept reminding myself that it was the best decision for my health and that I had given it enough time and thought that I know I was making the right choice. I'm 13 days post op and I now feel a lot better, I wouldn't change a thing!!! Good luck : )

  4. Oh Em Gee... Me too! I never puke it even if I try. I just have to take it like a champ and ride it until the wheels fall of.. or until I fall out.

  6. Hi...I'm 10 days post op RNY. My one week appt was yesterday. I would have mentioned this to my surgeon, but it didn't start until last night. I'm having excruciating pain near two of my lap sites. Kind of a burning, twisting, spasm. It's not constant, but when I move and use my stomach muscles it's terrible.

I thought it was possibly a deficiency, like maybe not getting enough hydration or Vitamins.< /p>

My husband says it sounds like a hernia. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

I'd appreciate any feedback. Thank you!!!

    ~Diana

  7. Thanks everyone : )

So far I'm not nervous, I just feel like I'm going on vacation and trying to get everything in place before I leave. Lol for example...I just washed towels and mopped the floor!!! Haha!!!

Now I have to pack my bag and shower with the betadine soap!

    Leaving at noon!!

  8. Me to I go at 830am im freaking out a little bit. I'm excited too but freaked. I know its the right thing I'm just nervous about the pain and dumping.

Sent from my SCH-I605 using RNYTalk

Good luck tomorrow!!! See you on the losers side. ; )

  9. After months of appointments, classes and struggling to lose the required weight, it's finally here. I go in at 1:00 tomorrow and have surgery at 3:00pm.

I'm anxious, excited, and hopeful. I hope my hospital stay is minimal. I hope my recovery is uneventful and quick!! I hope I don't suffer from the dreaded "gas pain" in my chest and shoulders.

I'm excited to begin a healthy chapter in my life and enjoy physical activities like I did as a teenager : )

Tomorrow everything changes....hopefully for the better : )
