    Stomach discomfort

I havent been drinking while eating but I probably could wait a little longer before and after eating before drinking. Its hard sometimes to wait a full 30 minutes afterward to drink. I have been averaging between 60 and 70 grams of protein a day. From what I read I believe that is enough. I have been drinking atleast one Boost to make sure I get enough. Maybe i need to work on finding mushies that stay with me longer.
  2. Yes I have been up and around pretty much since the day of the surgery. I was in and out the same day and did a little walking that night. I havent had too much pain considering and every day it gets to be a little less. I havent had much problem with gas either. My boyfriend and I went to the movies yesterday. It went pretty well except that I felt like sleeping through the movie even though it was good. I am actually feeling a lot less sore today and am going to try to not take the prescribed pain meds today and just stick to liquid tylenol if I need something. We are going to do a little shopping today so I probably will need it. yeah I know my scales arent broken lol. I had my boyfriend test them when he got home. My weight has been up and down since the surgery so ive not been paying a lot of attention to it right now. Sorry to hear about the complications you had with your surgery. Glad you are home and doing well now. Have you been feeling hungry? I am on mushies now and at times feel like I am always eating since I am trying to eat slow but I still get hunger pangs in between. I have been averaging just over 900 calories a day. I guess I dont have much restriction as of yet. Oh... and I cant wait to be able to sleep in my own bed. So far i have only been comfortable in the recliner.

I am still having some burping also and now and then pass gas. I blame it on the surgery .... and I will use that excuse as long as I can lol. I havent had any lower back or shoulder pains from gas. I started on mushies yesterday and have been doing ok so far. I even tryed a frozen fish fillet, the baked ones not the breaded kind. I was able to eat most of it with tiny bites.
  4. I was banded on august 8th and since then I havent even been able to sleep in bed. I have been sleeping in the recliner. I tried last night but laying flat on my back seemed to put too much pressure on my port.
  5. Thanks Munchkin. I am doing pretty good. Just a little sore and feeling a bit weak but feeling better today than I did yesterday. Getting use to what I can eat. I was able to start mushies today. I am going to try to make it to the next meeting. Make my way across traffic taking my life into my own hands. lol I look forward to meeting with some fellow bandsters.
  6. Hi everyone!!! I am in the Galeria area and I would love to be able to join in the group and meet you all. I just got banded on the 8th and would love to have some friends in the area to talk to.
  7. I think my scales are broken. I was banded on the 8th and weighed 383 at the hospital before surgery. Yesterday I weighed myself and I was 386, this morning I weighed myself twice and both times it said 374....like I said I think my scales are broken.
  8. Just wanted to leave a message and say hi to everyone else who are starting with a high BMI. I was banded on the 8th of this month. I am looking forward to reading about everyones experiences and seeing the progress we are making. Take care everyone Pam
  9. I have read about many people gaining a few lbs right after surgery. I was banded on the 8th and weighed 383 at the hospital, I weighed myself yesterday morning and weighed 386. Yes I know too i shouldnt be thinking about it right now but I have been curious also. But was really surprised me is that I just weighed myself again ... twice... and both times the scale read 374.... I think its broken.

    Surgery Results

I got my band yesterday by Dr. Spivak. I had been nervous the night before and as luck would have it our internet was down and I couldnt get online to check out the forums. I am so glad it is up now. Any way, my surgery went well. I didn't have much pain though they did give me the good stuff at the hospital. I was up and walking quickly and was able to leave the hospital 2 hours after getting out of recovery. I was feeling quite well yesterday, even took a little walk in the evening. I have been in more pain today, nothing excruciating but more than the previous day. I have been able to drink well by taking frequent sips. I actually got hungry today, not sure if that is good or bad. I haven't had much gas pains, just been burping now and then which is a relief. I just hope this is the worst of the gas. I did have a problem when I went to take a shower, I had to stop half way through because I got dizzy and felt like I might pass out. I had to get out and sit for a while before I could finish. Because of that its made me wary of going outside by myself for a walk. For now I am just making sure I get up and walk around inside as much as possible. Yesterday my throut was bothering me making me cough some but that has been better today except for tonight it started to bother me again. I have been doing my best not to cough because that is not a pleasant experience. I get to start the mushie stage tomorrow and I am looking forward to it. I cant wait to start seeing the scales moving down. Good luck and best wishes to everyone else getting their bands this month. Its not always easy but it will be well worth it.

Hi Tricia. I am going to be using Dr. Spivak also. I am scheduled to get my band this week on the 8th. I like what I have seen from him and his office so far and I have not heard anything but good opinions about him. I decided to use him over Dr. Spiegal because I am self pay and Spivak was close to $3000 cheaper. Good luck in your pursuit to get the band. Pam

    Hello from Texas

HI Pam from another Pam. I am from Houston also and will be getting banded on August 8th with Dr. Spivak. I know how you are feeling as Im sure most everyone here does. I am 38 with a younger boyfriend that I need to keep up with and this extra weight isnt helping. Good luck in everything you do. Pam
  15. I just ordered a scale online from LivingXL.com. Accessories for larger individuals. The ones in there run higher than the one suggested at Wal-Mart but they start at 440 lbs. (Wish I would have known about wal-mart lol)
  16. Im with you on the not drinking while eating. I tend to take a drink after every bite. Not drinking at all is going to be a big change. I guess it will help me to slow down with my eating to make sure it is moist enough to swallow.
  17. Hi everyone. I just registered with this site. I have been reading some of the posts and have to say that I just love how everyone supports everyone. I am going tomorrow evening for my seminar and consultation with the Doctor. Dr. Spivak for those of you from the Houston area. I am getting a little nervous. It started this morning when they called to remind me about the seminar. Im sure most of you know the feeling. I compare it to the feeling before a first date. You want to do and be your best. You wonder if this could last for a life time. Will it be a good fit. Will this finally be the one thing that is perfect for you....... I look forward to getting to know people here. Best wishes to everyone and i hope you all get the results you are looking for. Pam
  18. Isnt that statement programed into a doctor from med school? lol I will have the surgery on that date whether I lose any weight or not. I am hoping to lose a couple pounds atleast so that I can say I listened to him.
  19. Hi fellow Crazy Ates, I am scheduled to have the lap band done on August 8th. After reading some of the posts and seeing all the things many of you had to go through before even knowing your surgery date, makes me kinda grateful to be self pay. I am using Dr. Spivak and was surprised that I didnt need to have any pre-op tests or a pre-op diet other than him asking me to try to drop a few pounds on my own. I have a mixture of nervousness and excitement going on. I really wish time would go faster. I look forward to getting to know my fellow Crazy Ates. Pam

    August '07 -- Compare pre-op diets

My surgery is scheduled for August 8th. I too am not required to do a pre-op diet. The doctor did ask me to try to lose weight if possible so I am just trying to cut back on the sweets. I am getting use to not drinking any pop. Hopefully I can drop a few pounds before my surgery.

    Newbie from Texas

Just a little update. I went to the seminar and spoke with Dr. Spivak last night. I have the all clear and can schedule to be banded as soon as I am ready. I was pretty surprised not to have needed any pre-op tests. I guess its because of a combination of good health despite being morbidly obese and being self pay. Now I just need to figure out when I can get the banding done. We are planning a trip in a couple weeks and I want to be able to eat normally lol. Part of me wants to get it done now and get on with it. But I dont want to have to worry about doing the special diet while on the road. I am excited and kinda nervous. I will let ya's know when i schedule the banding.
