  1. I had surgery on 6/5/13 and two weeks later got extremely nauseated. Instead of calling my doctor I kept trying to deal with it on my own. A week later I was so sick I was in tears when I got to his office. I had gotten an ulcer in my esophagus that gave me a stricture. The doc said it was completely closed off. I was having egd's 2-3 times a week to keep reopening my esophagus. Eventually it did stay open but I had been sick so long my body kept rejecting any food or drinks. I stayed in the hospital for 9 days on tpn and came home on 4 nausea meds. I now am just using scope Patches and marinol when needed. I am down 83lbs in less than 4 months. I am having another scope on Monday though because I am having pain and burning after eating. Doc thinks I have a ulcer in my pouch this time. All I know is that eventually everything will be normal... and I still would do it all over again

  2. Awesome. I was a 2X three weeks ago and was happy to move to an XL. But a medium!? That's great. Congrats. :)

Lol was just getting on to post rhe same thing. Left work for surgery on June 5th wearing a 2x top and bottom. Went back to work this week and I'm wearing a medium top and bottom and they're almost too big. So thankful I Mmm work in surgery and they provide our scrubs, otherwise this could have been quite costly!

  3. Highest Weight: 425

    Surgery Weight: 395

    Surgery Date: 05/07/2013

    Last Weeks Weight: 349

    Today's Weight: 347

    Total Loss: 78 pounds

The jar on the left is what I have lost & the jar on the right is what I have yet to lose. My sister gave me this idea & I love it :)

I absolutely love this idea.... I'm sure my daughters would love to move the rocks for me. ... they're my cheerleaders!

  4. Excited to finally come home from the hospital today after 8 days. I had to have a picc line put in and 5 days of tpn, lots of potassium, and magnesium. Make sure if you guys know something is wrong to seek help from your doctor. I'm going home on 4 nausea meds, and am finally able to move to full liquids and I'm 7 weeks post op today.

  5. I do feel very whiney' date=' and really I'm normally a trooper! I am sorry to hear about your hospital stay - are they thinking that will be all fixed now or a recurring problem?[/quote']

Hoping that it will stay opened. ... but there's always the chance of reoccurance later down the line. Good luck with everything. .. be persistent!

  6. So' date=' anyone know when surgeons decide we've put up with this "stuck food state" long enough to decide we have a stricture? I'm kinda tired of puking. Ya I know, it's only been 6 weeks.[/quote']

Mine got me in for am egd the next day after i told him, but waited a week before i said anything because i thought i was Just being whiney. Just call them until he agrees to look for you. I have been so sick from my stricture I am on day 6 in the hospital on IV nutrition, and joping to ho jome this week. Not that this would happen to you, but i know the feeling is horrible.

  7. When you are post op those goodies will make you very very sick. Also your appetite is going to be radically altered and you might not even be tempted! You'll be fine!

If I need something sweet I go for no sugar added fudgesicles and sugar free hot chocolate. I was a chocoholic n efore surgery a d now I really could care less if I eat at all sometimes.

  8. Was admitted to the hospital today with possibility of a esophageal stent tomorrow. Dr said he injected steriods for all of the inflammation I had monday and he wanted me to have an upper GI to see if they'd done any good. I went down and drank the dye gagging the entire time, and it went down. Doctor says my stricture is good for now, but he thinks my body is trying to reject the new plumbing. Says it rarely happens and it can take up to 4 months to get better. I am constantly nauseated and dry heaving. He's going to try and get me on a good combination of meds before I go home. He said most likely I will lose all of my weight before my body settles down considering that I'm already down to 190. I'm just hoping to hold onto my sanity during this time. Cannot believe I had a stricture and now this... as if one wasn't enough. I'm supposed to stay on sugar free clears until further notice.

  9. My stricture is still giving me trouble. I haven't been able to take in any fluids without throwing them up for almost 6 days. I have on the other hand been getting IV fluids every couple of days, but I am miserable. Yesterday I had my esophagus dilated again and injected with steroids and got absolutely no relief for the 1st time. Called my doctor am d be said it's so inflamed he's going to have to throw in the towel and finally put in a stent. Apparently they worry about them migrating and putting a hole in the esophagus. I have never been worried about any operation but this worries me. I think I'm mostly worried about the discomfort.

  10. QUESTION: Hi everyone...I am almost 3 weeks out from my surgery & am having an awful time trying to eat...I noticed that after about 2 spoonfuls (baby spoon being used) I'm burping (sign of fullness)...today I wasn't sure & tried to eat a little more & I got ill...as it stands I'm not even getting 1/4 c. I'm feeling like crap & do well to eat once a day...so the question is has anyone experienced this? Does anyone have any suggestions? Any advice would be greatly appreciated...thanks I hope you have a great day!

Call your doctor make sure you don't have a stricture. ... trust me better safe than sorry

  11. I made pancakes tonight and put Unjury Protein inside the mix. They were so yummy! I had 2 small pieces of bacon as well. (doctor has it on the NO list) but it was sooooo good!!! Its the first thing that has tasted good to me in a couple of weeks. Now' date=' I am terrified that I am going to dump from the bacon. How long does it take for the dumping to take effect?[/quote']

Happened to me within 10 minutes... I got it in the hospital last week when they gave me full sugar Jello instead of S.F.

  12. Thank you so much for answering me' date=' I really do appreciate it. Oh I WILL stay on top of it, I am just to the point where I can't stand feeling this way, just don't know what to do with myself and keep thinking god, I hope this is NOT going to be new life, ugh!! My Dr's office is supposed to call and check on me on Monday and then I have a appointment on Wednesday, so I will def let them know and hopefully we can get to the bottom of this! Thanks again, I will keep you posted :-)[/quote']

No problem. ... I found my nausea is better if I don't drink fluids but stick to crushed ice and popsicles

  13. Hello all. Hope everybody is doing well. Me' date=' not so much, I am really starting to second guess my decision. I had surgery on June 18th, 2013. First two weeks I was doing well, other than being sore everything was good. Then I started my purée stage on July 2nd and it feels as though everything went down hill. I feel nausea 99% of the time, and at times have a stomach ache. I am able to drink and eat so I don't think I have a blockage, however with the way I feel I don't want to drink or eat and am struggling to meet my liquid and Protein requirements. I didn't have a bowel movement for about a week, so I did take some milk of magnesia and thankfully I did and thought maybe that was the problem however I am not feeling any better. I did call and speak with my surgeons office and basically they said to keep getting my liquids and protein in, maybe the reason I feel sick, if I am not getting them all in, yea I get that however it's a little hard when your sick to your stomach. I am just so frustrated and don't know what to do at this point. I am so tired of feeling this way. Has anyone else experienced any of this? Is this normal? Any suggestions? Thank you all for listening to me, any help will be appreciated.[/quote']

This is exactly how I felt at the beginning of my stricture. Stay on top of your doctor if you don't start feeling better soon. You should not be feeling sick all the time , I know it's misserable. I got my stricture right at the beginning of my puree stage at 2 1/2 weeks. Just try and remember this is only temporary. ... you will make it through and live a happy, and healthy life!

  14. No' date=' he put a gauze over it folded into thirds and taped it really tight. Yesterday I took all that off and put a big square band aid on it. I think the scar will be weird and not flat unfortunately. I already look like Swiss cheese on my stomach. Im prepared to tell people it was my gun shot wound. Lol.[/quote']

I dressed mine like that too and it closed quickly, but the second day when I changed my dressing Fluid squirted out every where... lol beware.... my kids almost puked

  15. Yesterday and today have been pretty exciting. Had my esophagus dilated yesterday and was able to eat some Soup and keep fluids down. I cannot eat or drink much, but anything is better than ice chips only. Today I have had a few ounces of potatoe soup, a popcicle, and a little lemon Water. I know it's not much but I am happy with anything. Hopefully after just a few more dilations I'll be back to normal!

  16. The pill that is terrifying me is the gigantic thing they gave me to prevent gallstones. They said I could open the capsule and mix it with applesauce or pudding but it tastes absolutely retched. I know for a fact I don't want to have to lose my gallbladder too but I also know I don't want to choke on a pill ever again!!!

I've heard that it's awful but I had mine out long ago.... gallbladder attacks are no joke

  17. I am so sorry. I hope that eventually we all get the hang of this eating. Perhaps in a year we will all say it wasn't so bad.

I have been staying positive. ... I figure this is just one tiny portion of my entire life.... it's not forever

  18. I just said the same thing to my husband. I also read a thread about it on the post op forums.

I have had 2 calories today and 7 yesterday because of my stricture. I just can't see how anything will ever sound good or fit in my stomach. ... and I just don't care to eat right now... my stomach feels so sick
