    Impacted

Yeah, I think some people are lucky and have no bowel issues, but it seems the majority do, at least for some time. I was just scared to death to have to go to the hospital and be disimpacted or anything. My friend that had to go and they gave her the citrate? She later also received an enema, and then went all over the floor. I didn't mention that to you earlier in fear you wouldn't go to the ER in the event you couldn't go on your own. I would have died if I were her but that fear has driven me to stick with all my laxatives!

Very glad for you. Did you end up taking the citrate? I hate that stuff! Now you need to get on a good bowel regime. I have had to take laxatives and softeners right from the beginning. I take 1 senna and colace every morning and two of each every night. If I go more than two days without going I add in a dose of miralax.

I hope everything works out (literally!) In your favor and you stay out of the hospital!

Yes, milk of magnesia, magnesium citrate, senna, etc. But I am almost positive that when you go to the er they will give you magnesium citrate. My friend was in the same situation as you and that's what they did for her.

You need to hit it from the top to! Everything may be up higher in the intestine out of an enemas reach.

Honestly, they will probably give you magnesium citrate in the hospital first thing. You are giving yourself saline enemas so that shouldn't have too Munch effect on your kidneys.

    5k! My new love!

I trained for a 5k by using the couch to 5k app- I downloaded it to my phone. I ran my 1st 5k (no race, just the distance) a few weeks ago and have since run it 3x per week. I love it and my dog enjoys the exercise as well, it really helps his behavior issues too!

    How about some NSVs!?!?

I don't weigh myself often so most of my victories are NSV. Today was an incredible day for them. First of all, 2 pairs of jeans that were a little snug last WEEK are a bit loose this week, so I am officially down another size as of today. Second, I wanted to take one of my dogs for a walk since it was such a gorgeous night. I was only going to go 2 miles, but when I got to the point where I was going to turn around I realized that I felt great, not tired, my legs were feeling strong and powerful, so I kept going. We ended up walking 5 miles, and towards the end I had to slow down because my dog was getting tired, but not me! I thought that was incredible.

    How about some NSVs!?!?

My neighbor told me yesterday that her teenage son asked her what was up with me lately- wearing my hair straight, and why was I so skinny? I seriously wanted to run over and swing that kid around. I am still far from thin, but no one EVER has referred to me as skinny, and I loved hearing that! Also, at work the other night one of the nurses came over to me and said, "wow, you have boobs". Finally the stomach is tucked in further than the boobs.

    Friday Weigh-In!

Soccermama, I have been watching your progress for awhile now, and seeing that on the scale really is cruel! You are so close though!

    How about some NSVs!?!?

I ran 3 miles today without stopping, in 36 minutes. Me and a 12 minute mile have never gone together before!

    Birth control?

  13. I felt hunger early on as well. It is good to follow your surgeon's plan, but obviously it just isn't enough for you. You should toss those oreo's out and eat something with protein in it when you are hungry. Like someone else said, try 4oz of food per meal, eat something with protein every 2-3 hours so you don't feel deprived. Surgeon's plans are great but they can't give everyone the same plan and expect it to work for everyone. Use this early post op time to learn healthy ways to stop your hunger. I eat 3-4 oz of food every 3ish hours, keeps me full and keeps the cravings away.

    Newbie band to bypass! questions...

Recovery was much more painful for me, and the pain lasted about a week and a half. With all that you have going on I think you are smart to push it back until you will have adequate time to recover. I am a nurse and could have gone back after 3 weeks, but went back after 4 because I was still more fatigued than normal.

    How about some NSVs!?!?

I have lost 28 inches since May 21st and that doesn't include my waist since I didn't know where it was back then... Now I can definitely see it!!

    MAY 2013 POST-OP GROUP

I get between 750-1000 calories per day, lower when I don't exercise, higher when I do. I quit weighing myself in June because I was losing so slow it was depressing me but I feel like I have done pretty well. Clothes are rapidly getting too large and I can see that I have a waist line which is thrilling.

    Recovery from band vs. bypass

My bypass recovery was longer, and more painful. I recovered from the band very quickly, a couple of days maybe? The bypass it was a full 2 weeks before I felt really good and a month before I wasn't easily exhausted. I was also banded in 2005 and revised to RNY in May 2013. Wish I never had the damn band! Loving the RNY. Best of luck to you.

    Ulcer?

My surgeon required prilosec 2x/day for the 1st 3 months post-op. I finished taking it early last week. Since Friday I have been very bloated, can eat about 1/2 of what I have been eating, and belching almost constantly. Friday and Saturday my stomach was upset all day, but today it feels fine aside from the bloat. It kind of seems like an ulcer, anyone else have ideas? I see my surgeon next thursday and they cannot see me before then.

    Always hungry lately :-/

I have dealt with hunger right from the beginning, and at about 2.5 months out I realized I was needing a little more food with each meal, so I added veggies. I try to keep a variety of veggies on hand at all times and eat those. They fill me up and don't add calories. For example, every morning I have 1/2 cup scrambled eggs- when I needed more food I added a scoop of spinach. It added just enough bulk to fill me without adding more than 20-30 calories.
