    Pre-op question...?

I think it's wonderful you are practicing now things that will help you be successful in the future post op! I had lost 17lb before surgery by changes. Mainly it was sweets and carbs I started giving up. Also if you aren't on my fitness pal yet it's a wonderful time to start!!

23 Days Post Op - No Appetite

Hi and welcome! Ok so the thing with Protein..it's a process and it takes time to get it all together and eventually it will work. It's a learning curve so to speak. The most important part is making sure you stay hydrated and that's something sipping through out the day can help you with. Sometimes something as simple as an alarm on your phone to remind you until you get the sensations back in your new stomach. Also protein can be a tricky thing when you are post op with the tastes and changes. Sometimes Vitamin Shoppe and GNC and other retailers will have sample packs if you can try it out may help before buying a bunch of stuff and is a gamble if you will like or tolerate it. When you refer to the whey shots are they the mini vials? Sometimes that is protein in a form that is truly not absorbed. A good rule of thumb is look at the content amount of protein. Your body can only absorb a bit over 40grams of protein at a time I believe. You can do this and we are all here to help you. Congrats on your surgery!! Let me know if I can help with anything.

    New and nervious

Hi shirl! Welcome!! You can do this cause it's so worth it! The pre op is definitely the hardest part in my opinion. Once the surgery is done it's adaptable and just learning to manage. There are tons of folks here who know how difficult it is so you definitely have come to the right spot. Have you met with your nutritionist yet? I loved mine and she was so invaluable to me before and after! Good luck and u can do this!!

    Another newbie, ranting

Hi! I can understand how much you have going through your mind. I can not stress how valuable my relationship with my nutritionist was. She was always a phone call away also. She worked hard to find things to help me with my intake. I developed some pretty intense food aversions post op and she would brainstorm to help me try different things. I can only recommend you see your nutritionist and try to come up with things together that might be more agreeable.

    Scheduled for January 28th!

Hi! Congrats on your upcoming surgery. A wonderful way to start a brand new year off. My biggest advice is take the journey as your own. Try not to compare your loss or success to anyone else's. It drove me crazy! Be kind to yourself also! Stalls will happen but don't get upset or frustrated it happens to all of us and my biggest point of advise is enjoy the discoveries and excitement you go through watching your body change.

    Hair Loss

I cut my hair off today. It was kinda hard to do but I just thought I had to do something. The hair loss hasn't let up much and I'm nearing 7 months post op. It does look healthier and the bare spots around the top where I can see the scalp some isn't as bad. I always meet my protein goals, have taken biotin and prenatals. Idk if the miscarriage and anesthesia from the d&c made it worse or what. So when did it stop for u guys that are further out? I do have a few tiny sprouts of new growth but I'm still steadily losing lots of hair. I'd still do this again even if it meant I had to be bald..however id like to keep my hair when does it stop?

    Help/opinion

I didn't feel much of anything post op. I never would know I was full unless I could feel the pressure in between my breasts. After a couple very uncomfortable episodes I did as I was instructed and measured out. Also as you will progress in your dietary intake on to solids you may find it takes less amounts of denser proteins and food to make u full compared to the thinner or less dense food. Good luck!!

    Struggling...is it too late?

So sorry to hear things aren't going to great. The good news is the tool that helped you lose the 1st time is still in place. I don't have a lot of 1st hand knowledge to tell as I'm not as far out. I have heard of folks doing the 5 day pouch test to try to jump start and get back into the diet and way of eating. As a nurse tho I can recommend seeing someone to talk things out with. Depression is a real deal and can hinder weight loss efforts. Exercising isn't in the cards for now but maybe some talk therapy could help with the feelings and also the sleep. Insomnia can go hand in hand with depression. Good luck it jump starting things. All isn't lost! You did this before and you CAN do it again!! You've got this!!!

    April 2013 Post-Op Group

I am so so sorry for your loss. That is beyond heart breaking. Prayers for your family. May God be with y'all.
  23. Every single year I've started off saying I would lose weight and focus on my health but this year I actually did it. I was looking at pictures from 1 year ago and can't believe that was me! This year I am not making any resolutions but instead goals. What are a few of your goals for this year? What is your plans for progress in 2014? Happy New Years!!!
