My surgery today
I'll keep your Mom in my prayers , she might have a harder recovery then most, but she'll make it through with your support & she has everyone here as well. Glad surgery went well. Peace, Mary

Antidepressants...anyone?!?!?
Try mixing it with applesauce or yogurt anything soft & mushy will work ,that helped me, but I forgot your just a few days post op can you have jello?? I seem to remember that was something I could eat tight after surgery. I hope this helps, Just a fyi after 6 months post op I'm off my anti depressants,& am only taking my meds for panic disorder,I also take heavy duty pain med's for my chronic RA, after surgery I had to stop other meds & went through withdrawals, my Dr put me on Clonidine it was a life saver, I took it for 2wks & I was much better until the adjusted my meds Sorry I'm kind of alone so I tend to ramble on when I reply to a post . I just like to try to help. Peace, Mary

Post op 3 months
I know just how you feel, I am going through the same thing. I'm 6months post op. & have stalled with my weight loss. I just weighed myself this morning & lost 2lbs. I started walking every other day & went back to the diet I was on before, I got to the point where I could eat what I wanted. Not that I went crazy & started eating BK, chips cookies & the like. So in doing that I lost 2lbs in 5 days. I hope this helped s little, hang in there it will get better

Gross.. But need help!
The problem your having is because of your diet & once you are able to introduce solid foods, the problem should go away. I find it interesting that so many of you all had to go on a liquid diet before surgery. I did not have to do that, I guess different surgeons have different protocols before surgery, I don't know what kinds of k liquids your eating (or drinking) but if your having anything with milk, whey or lactose,it will make your situation worse. I hope you Dr ups your diet to the next level soon feel better. Even though we all have gone through rough spots in this weight loss journey the further along you go the more you'll feel it was worth it. I'm down 108lbs since Jan & I feel like a new person. I still have another 142lbs to go. Anyway feel better soon,& don't worry about the subject matter we've all been there & if you don't ask you'll feel like your alone a&your not . Ok I'll shut up now Peace, Mary

Broke up with a "friend" today
I'm so sorry this happened to you, Some people are just ignorant on the subject it should be as easy as everyone thinks it is! How gray would it be if we didn't have to worry about eating enough protein, drink enough fluids, take vitamin for the rest of our life's, live with the fear that you'll eat the wrong thing & go through a "dumping " episode,& have your skin hang off your bones if you don't exercise, or worse yet go through another surgery to fix that. Don't get me wrong , I'm so happy I've had this done & I'm lucky that my family are all supportive. Just remember you have all of us who understand & are here to cheer you on & have shouldered for you to cry on, or ears so we can hear you vent, that's what supportive friends do. Hope you have a better day tomorrow. Peace, Mary

stall!
Sorry to hear you've been in the hospital, there must be something in the air(it couldn't be we're making poor food choices,) I too gained weight for the first time , it's been my biggest fear, I guess the real test is how we deal with the weight gain. Good luck & I hope you feel better soon Peace,Mary

Eating somethings I'm not supposed to
I had my surgery on the same day! My Dr has had me on a regular diet ( mostly I can eat what ever I want , weather I can tolerate it is another story). The problem I'm having is I'm falling back into my old habits, eating when I'm not hungry, I'm so scared to get on the scale, I haven't gained any weight back, but I'm terrified what will happen if I do , sorry this is about you, can you eat lettuce? When I was tired of the all protein just being able to add lettuce, to have a crunch that was a fresh taste, I eat chef salads at least 3x a week. It has lots of protein , with the hard boiled eggs & Turkey, ham & Swiss( I use low sodium cold cuts) with low calorie dressing . Hop this is a little help. Hang in there Peace, Mary

Hair loss
I'm so sorry to hear the problem with your hair, I too am loosing mine by the fist fills, but I thought mine was do to my RA injection I have to get once a month, (it's also used as a chemo drug), the only thing I can think of is what most folks are saying make sure your eating enough protein, I don't know what Biotin is I assume it's a multi vitamin, you should definitely call your Dr's office & talk to someone, I been using shampoo that thickens your hair Sauave puts out a line, it seems to help,at least it doesn't look as thin. Good luck! Peace, Mary

Protein shakes and GAS
Try hot water with fresh lemon squized into it. It doesn't taste so great but it helps with the gas pains. A nurse told me this when I had my 2nd C-section & surprisingly it worked. Maybe the protein shake you use has milk, lactose or whey, all can cause gas if your lactose intolerant. I never had a problem with dairy products but since surgery (Jan 29 2013) I can't digest it so well , lots of gas & pain. I keep lemons stocked now.lol. hope this helps. Peace,Mary

Plz help!
Don't force yourself to get sick ,your pouch will hurt more, your best bet is to lie on your back -& try to relax, it will pass. I have a relaxation app on my Kindle Fire called Relax Melodies Premium ,(there are all different kind of apps at various prices this one was $1.99) it really does help. Goods luck & feel better

Struggling not to fall back into old habits!
I've been having such a hard time this past week or two, I have rheumatoid arthritis & since my surgery in Jan, I took myself off the prednisone, because it increases your appetite, but I have been having a lot of swelling because of the heat & humidity we've been having on the east coast. So I had to start taking it again, but I'm rattling ALL THE TIME! Even when I'm not hungry I find myself in the kitchen looking for something to eat, I've been trying to make smart choices , like fruit, sugar free jello, tuna, protein drinks, but I never feel satisfied. I stopped taking it again I'm terrified of gaining weight back, I've lost 109lbs, I got used to loosing 15-20lbs a week, which I New was going to slow down, & I settled into about 10lbs a month, which is still ok, but this week when I weighed myself I lost 1lb!! It has me freaked out. It's been to hot to walk, plus my knees are a mess from the arthritis ( they both need to be replaced) & I joined a gym that is opening right by my house, the only problem is there not opened yet. Ok I'm done whining, but if anyone has any ideas or words of encouragement it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks peace, Mary

Not sure what to do anymore:(
Wow you are in such a tuff situation, you need & deserve to feel the joy in all the things you can do now, but on the other hand you were in your husbands shoes not that long ago so you know where he's coming from. When you were making your decision to have the surgery , I'm curious (& if you don't mind me asking) what was your husbands thoughts on you having it done? Did he go to any of the seminars or pre op appointments with you? Right now he's probably insecure & a little afraid of what the future may hold for the two of you, that as you reach your goal & he stays the same he may feel that you'll have nothing in common any more & he'll loose you. I am having that problem with my own husband, don't get me wrong he's my biggest cheerleader he brags to the neighbours & family how much I've lost & he gets on me if he thinks I've eaten to much ( mostly Sunkist fruit bars the coconut one's are to die for! Only 120 cal 0 fat & 16 grams sugar) but he too is over weight 278lbs @ 5'10" & he is diabetic & has high BP &cholesterol & is so insecure he is convinced that once I reach goal I'll be looking for someone new. Try to get counselling for you both before it becomes a wedge between you. Good luck & be happy! Peace, Mary

Fibromyalgia, Lupus, Osteoarthritis, Chronic Fatigue WLS Support
Anyone out there with Rheumatoid Arthritis? Along with Fibromyalgia? I've been having the worst time with joint pain these past few days, ever since this heat wave has hit NJ. The humidity is killing my knees (they both need to be replaced, but I'm chicken to go through the surgery) I take Morphine & Methadone for the pain & it's not doing much, I started prednisone again which I've been avoiding because it makes me hungry,& I'm terrified of gaining weight back. My weight loss has slowed down to about 2lbs a week. I'm just so down I'm back in bed because lying down is the only comfortable position & I feel just the way I did before surgery, at 386lbs I never wanted to get up . I feel like I'm back at square one. Thanks for listening to me whine. I wish I had someone to talk to.

Tired of getting sick!
I spent all of last night & into the early morning puking AGAIN! I didn't eat anything new or out of the ordinary,&yet I got sick. Does this happen to anyone else? I feel so bad this morning I just ate a tiny bowl of cereal and my pouch is killing me. Ugh. I'm going back to bed!

Dumping..
I too am an ice cream fanatic, frozen yogurt is pretty good, but I found Sunkist fruit bars are GREAT especially the coconut. It's absolutely delish! It only has 16 grms of sugar, so no dumping. I try to keep the grams of sugar under 20 &it seems to keep the nasty symptoms away. Hope this helps. Peace, Mary

TAKE YOUR VITAMINS!
Just take a good brand of a multi-vitamin, the tablets are big so I have to break them in half , my Dr also has me taking vitamin B-12 sub lingual & Calcium citrate (again it's a large tablet ) but I didn't start taking vitamins till after my surgery.they made me so sick I stopped taking everything. When I went for my last post op visit, he stressed upon me how important it is to take them ,so I'm starting with the B-12 & have to get blood work in 6wks. But it seems like everyone's Dr's are different, so check with them or the nutritionist. Peace, Mary

Besides weight loss, what has been the biggest benefit since getting surgery?
My self esteem is gradually coming back. I'm starting to care about how I look when I go out, I knew I am starting to find my old self again when I started wearing earrings again. I just feel happier all around. Even though I have had 2 BAD days I just have been eating everything in site, & I'm bummed about it, but instead of giving up like I would of, I joined a gym something I NEVER would of done. So thats a pretty big benefit to me. Peace, Mary

Severe arthritis
YES, I have chronic RA in almost every bone in my body, but my knees are the worst. I had my surgery on 1/29/13 & have lost 102lbs it hasn't helped my knees in the slightest,I'm sorry to say. One of the reasons for having the surgery was that I needed to loose 75lbs before they could do the knee replacement surgery, but now that I've lost enough weight, I'm so scared to have it done. I can't stand the thought of being in all that pain, they want to do both knees at the same time. I'm passes taking Tylnol or any OTC meds. I go to a pain management Dr. & take Morphine & Methadone on a daily basis & also inject Mexotrexate once a week . Hope you feel better & keep moving! Peace, Mary

Why can i hardly eat
I had the same problem, I'm now 5months out, the best advice I can give is to eat several small meals & keep it down ,than push yourself to eat more & then get sick. I still can only eat 4 or 5 oz a meal, & if I eat to fast or drink while I eat, I'll be sick for hours. Good luck, in the beginning I swore I made the biggest mistake but now I've lost 104lbs,& just had to go shopping because everything was falling off me. I forgot how much fun shopping, doing my makeup& nails, was next up for me is to dye this head of gray hair. Hang in there you'll be feeling better about things before you know it. Peace, Mary
