  1. I've done alright so far. Had a few "cheats" but nothing real major. I have lost about 10lbs this past week. I'm really wanting to eat a "real meal" but I also don't want to mess anything up. This has been one of the hardest "diets" I have ever been on. I stay in my bedroom when I am home just so I won't have the urge to go to the kitchen and graze around on crap.

Anyone else have a hard time on the pre-op diet?

  2. The place that is over my bypass offers the 6 month supervised diet. Basically I go in and see them once a month and it counts. 6 months with 7 doctor visits. If you are in a bariatric program, ask them about seeing them once a month for the supervised diets. They should have you see a nutritionalist anyhow. I was told I wasn't expected to lose any weight on the supervised diet, I just had to be the one to schedule my monthly appointments and show up.

    Insurance approved me.

  3. Nicotine stays in the blood longer than in urine. Those that dip will have it in their system longer than smokers. Those that smoke menthol will have it in their system longer also.

I've been looking at this also because I had to quit smoking for my surgery. I haven't had a full cig in over a month and had to take my nicotine test the other day. I was super nervous for it since I had had a couple of drags since "quitting". They asked me if I wanted to blood or urine and I quickly said urine! I haven't been so excited to pee in a cup! I'm still waiting on the results.

  4. My surgeon has us drinking Carnation Instant Breakfast No Sugar Added (blue box). I actually don't get to have the Protein Drinks. I do, however, have some of the "clear" Isopure drinks that I drink half a bottle a day or so. Just to keep my Protein up. I will have the Protein Shakes after surgery, but not before. The Carnation provides the Vitamins and minerals needed. I can have 1 cup of skim milk per day. Either with 1 shake or spread out through all of my shakes. Others must be mixed with Water. But trust me, don't mix 1 package with just water unless you make it in a shot glass! NASTY. I mix 4 oz of milk with 4 oz of water and then add some Decaf instant coffee crystals. Sometimes I heat it up for a hot drink and sometimes I have it on ice for a cold mocha drink.

  5. I am scheduled to have surgery August 28th. I started my pre-op diet yesterday, August 14th.

4-6 No Sugar Added Carnation Instant Breakfast

1c of skim or 1% milk per day. Can be added on 1 instant Breakfast or split up between them. Otherwise shakes must be mixed with Water. (yuck)

between the Carnation I can have 1 cup of sugar free Jello or 1-2 sugar free popsicles

at least 64oz of Water - can add Mio, Crystal Light, Sugar Free Kool-Aid etc.

Let me tell you, mixing 1 packet of the Carnation with water is yuuuuckie. It was suggested to make the ones with water with 3 packets. That is way better but it leaves me with only having 2 drinks per day.

I also found if I mix half water, half milk and then add Decaf instant coffee crystals to it, it is actually pretty good. So that is what I have been doing as far as my shakes go.

I have also had some Isopure clear drinks to help keep my Protein up.

I told my husband that I would do dirty things if he would just get me a cheeseburger. Surprisingly he declined. He said I will thank him for it. Now that takes some WILLPOWER on his part. HAHA

This diet is all about testing my willpower. I will do it. I actually know I can.

I do however, know that I will have at least 1 day that I am going to cheat. I won't cheat big, but I know I am going to since it is a planned dinner.

  6. Hey everyone. I am new to this forum. I am in the process of completing the requirements for my bypass surgery. I have to have my stomach scoped tomorrow. Fun stuff huh? I went to my first seminar in January and had my first appointment with the medical director on January 28th. Because of my insurance I have to wait 6 months before surgery. So the are looking at the beginning of August for my surgery date. Seems like forever away. I have completed all the tests except for the scope, which is tomorrow and one last nutritionist appointment which is next week. Then it will be once a month visit with my doctor and one more visit with the surgeon. And we play the waiting game on insurance to approve.

I'm super excited and would have the surgery tomorrow if I could. I'll keep posted on here. I like the fact of a support group at my fingertips, literally.
