    My Pre-Op Diet

Drinking a lot of Water helps. It helps with making your stomach feel like it has something in it. I read so much that different surgeons require different diets. I feel as long as I'm under the calories of what my shakes would be and stay sugar free and such, I'll be ok. I will go full on Carnation No Sugar Added shakes and water starting the Sunday of my surgery week. The day before surgery I can have broth... Clear liquids. uugggghhhh... still sucky but I know it's going to be worth it.

    My Pre-Op Diet

I've done alright so far. Had a few "cheats" but nothing real major. I have lost about 10lbs this past week. I'm really wanting to eat a "real meal" but I also don't want to mess anything up. This has been one of the hardest "diets" I have ever been on. I stay in my bedroom when I am home just so I won't have the urge to go to the kitchen and graze around on crap. Anyone else have a hard time on the pre-op diet?

    Pain Meds

What type of pain medication were you put on after surgery? How long were you on it after surgery? Ash

    Pre-op liquid diet

Vanilla and a variety pack with strawberry in it. Those ones are a little hard to find. Sam's or a Costco might have them. Chocolate can be found at just about any grocery store but get the blue box. It's by the cereal and oatmeal.

I told my husband I will be a cheap drunk and a cheap date after my surgery.

    Doctor Supervised Diet...

The place that is over my bypass offers the 6 month supervised diet. Basically I go in and see them once a month and it counts. 6 months with 7 doctor visits. If you are in a bariatric program, ask them about seeing them once a month for the supervised diets. They should have you see a nutritionalist anyhow. I was told I wasn't expected to lose any weight on the supervised diet, I just had to be the one to schedule my monthly appointments and show up. Insurance approved me.

    Pre-op liquid diet

yeah. I like the taste better than most protein shakes. I do like to put the coffee crystals in mine but they have to be decaf. I also add a packet of sweet n low.
  8. Nicotine stays in the blood longer than in urine. Those that dip will have it in their system longer than smokers. Those that smoke menthol will have it in their system longer also. I've been looking at this also because I had to quit smoking for my surgery. I haven't had a full cig in over a month and had to take my nicotine test the other day. I was super nervous for it since I had had a couple of drags since "quitting". They asked me if I wanted to blood or urine and I quickly said urine! I haven't been so excited to pee in a cup! I'm still waiting on the results.

    Pre-op liquid diet

My surgeon has us drinking Carnation Instant Breakfast No Sugar Added (blue box). I actually don't get to have the protein drinks. I do, however, have some of the "clear" Isopure drinks that I drink half a bottle a day or so. Just to keep my protein up. I will have the protein shakes after surgery, but not before. The Carnation provides the vitamins and minerals needed. I can have 1 cup of skim milk per day. Either with 1 shake or spread out through all of my shakes. Others must be mixed with water. But trust me, don't mix 1 package with just water unless you make it in a shot glass! NASTY. I mix 4 oz of milk with 4 oz of water and then add some decaf instant coffee crystals. Sometimes I heat it up for a hot drink and sometimes I have it on ice for a cold mocha drink.

    Pre-op liquid diet

I'm starting to realize just how addicted to food I really am. I'm in my break room at work and they are serving chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes. I'm sitting here drinking decaf coffee. Guess I should just get out of here. Haha

    Pre-op liquid diet

I started my pre-op diet today also and it is the same as yours. I did get some sunflower seeds to help with the snacking craving. They are small and high in protein. This diet sucks.
  13. I'm a little behind you all. I am August 28th. I go Monday to meet with my surgeon for pre-op meeting then start my liquid diet on Wednesday. I'm so ready, I wish it were tomorrow!

  19. I just got confirmation that I will meet with my surgeon Aug 12. Hoping for an Aug 28th surgery! Been a long road. Started this journey January 28th. Wish me luck!
  20. Hey everyone. I am new to this forum. I am in the process of completing the requirements for my bypass surgery. I have to have my stomach scoped tomorrow. Fun stuff huh? I went to my first seminar in January and had my first appointment with the medical director on January 28th. Because of my insurance I have to wait 6 months before surgery. So the are looking at the beginning of August for my surgery date. Seems like forever away. I have completed all the tests except for the scope, which is tomorrow and one last nutritionist appointment which is next week. Then it will be once a month visit with my doctor and one more visit with the surgeon. And we play the waiting game on insurance to approve. I'm super excited and would have the surgery tomorrow if I could. I'll keep posted on here. I like the fact of a support group at my fingertips, literally. Ash

    getting started

I did my stomach scope yesterday. My throat was so dry and itchy afterwards. I slept all day too. But my fiance took me to get shaved ice so it was worth it!
