  1. Alright guys, I've just completed all my steps towards having RNY surgery and waiting for surgeon to give me a surgery date. Now tonight my wife tells me a man who has had RNY, told her that men's hormones go crazy after having surgery and we could go mean and such stuff. Any of you have problems with hormones? Fill me in on some info if you will? I don't want to go turning into some kind of monster or have to be shot like Old Yellow dog was... Thanks!

    I've Tried, But...

I'm sorry, I have to leave. There's a lot of great info on this site to learn, but it's just so dull and depressing after the change to the site. There's broken codes showing all over the place, many pictures don't show and tickers also show as broken codes. Good luck and high hopes that everything goes well to all that has surgery! May your life be better and healthy! :-)
  3. Tuesday morning (Nov.12,2013) at 5:30am I have my surgery done and behind me. So ready to see where this road to a new life style goes! But mostly hoping the surgery helps me like hoping it will. Time will tell...

    Getting closer...

Call from doctors office saying all files on me has now been placed on surgeons desk. Now I just wait for a phone call giving me a surgery date. Also told me when the call comes in, I have to do a three week liquid diet before surgery. Don't think I'm going to enjoy that very much. Oh well, got to do what I have to do...

Which means I'll have to get up around 3:00am to get ready and get there by 5:00am. *who the hell gets up that early???* LOL I'm ready to get it all behind me now! :-)

    Taking Steroids?

I've used those steroid packs in the past a few times. Made me hungry most of the time while using them.

Just got hit up about hormones...

Wow, sounds kinda spooky. I throught I had done all my homework and learn all I needed to know. All the support group meetings I've gone to, I've heard nothing about this, the surgeon has never mentioned it, plus my wife is out 13 1/2 months RNY surgery and she went through nothing to do with hormones unless she was hiding it mighty well, because I watched her close to see how she done with RNY surgery. I could only hope I go though it as smooth as she has I guess. So I'm guessing what... I just ride through it and wait it out if it happens with me??? Thanks everyone for your replies!

    My First 5K

Done my first ever 5K Run/Walk today in Johns Creek, GA. Rained the whole time and the temp was pretty cool. But it was a lot of fun and I didn't even think on the wet and cool weather. Think it was better than if it had been one of the 100 degree days we sometimes get. Also had a friend in the 5K that had gastric bypass surgery just 2-3 days ago and she also finished. She did real well through the whole 5K. Kinda look forward to doing another one sometime, maybe soon. :-)
  13. Really???? Oh wow, I've not heard that until now. I do know all the people I know that has had RNY does dump. But the surgeon hasn't told me some don't, maybe that's his way to keep me on track making me think before I think of pushing my limit. lol I don't know. This might be a bad thing to say, but I hope I'm one that will dump.
  14. Exactly why I'm picking RNY. I need to know I will dump and get sick if I don't follow the rules or I will cheat from time to time. I love ice cream and bread to much to back off on my own. I almost worship those two foods. lol I've met and got to know a lot of people now who have had RNY done and each one is an awesome success.
  15. My wife started eating stuff like chilie and also mashed taters on the 2nd week.

    Doing a 5K..whaaaat?

Hi Suznc! It was a lot of fun and can't wait to do another. It rained on us the whole time and the temps dropped down to feeling pretty cool and windy, but that really felt good over getting hot and sweating. To be honest, never thought going into it that I'd finish, but I did finish and without stopping anywhere along the way for a rest. Dog tired but it really felt awesome when I was crossing that finish line! Everyone needs to go a 5K, 10K, or whatever size race you can get into.

    Doing a 5K..whaaaat?

My wife and I are doing a 5K this Saturday (May 4) in Johns Creek, GA that does welcome walkers and runners. I can't run but I sure can walk it. This will be my first and I'm really looking forward to doing it.
  21. About me and where I'm at in my journey to getting healthy... My Story… Born and grew up in NC. Now living in GA. I used to be a long haul truck driver seeing the USA through the windshield until a wreak that screwed up my left knee and back which put a stop to that job in 1992 making me walk with a cane today. After that, I had a life of not working and spending a lot of time on my rear end doing not much of anything but letting my body go to waste. But who sees that coming when one has not much of a purpose in life anymore. Mind and body pretty much went down hill. Then around 2007 I had neck surgery on my cervical spine where they fused 3 disc together. Shortly after that I started feeling run down all the time, just no energy to doing anything and feeling bad most every day along with stinging and feeling of pins sticking me in my fingers and toes. Went to get checked out and found out I am a diabetic, have an inactive thyroid, have neuropathy that effects the nerves in my fingers, legs and feet and I now take 5 pills a day so I can walk, ride bike or just simply keep my balance. Doctor said I have been a diabetic for at least 25-30 years. With visit to doctor, I learned that I weighed 383 pounds. I couldn’t believe I had gained that much weight. So I decided enough was enough and I joined a gym and have loved going. Changed the foods I’m eating and in 13 months, I lost 96 pounds. Shortly after losing 96 pounds, I learned I have cirrhosis of the liver, spleen and some other stuff going on. Doctor said it come from being a diabetic and being over weight for so many years. But it’s not all bad. Doctor says not to worry about it if I get weight down and keep diabetes under control, then good chance my liver can heal itself. The good news so far is I’ve lost enough weight that I haven’t needed any diabetic meds for over a year now. But with those problems coming up it is stopping me from losing weight, no matter what I do. I haven’t lost any weight in almost nine months. But I’m not putting on weight either. Maybe because I keep up with my working out and eating right. So now I’m working towards getting Gastric Bypass Surgery in hopes it can be the answer to saving my life. At least all my doctors seem to think surgery should help me. So that’s all, no problems here and I guess that’s all there is to say about me… :-) I protest!! This thing called getting back into shape is turning out to be a lot of work. Wasn’t near this hard getting out of shape!
