  1. Hi losers! I need your help please. I am 2 months post op and don't have any exercise routine. I just want to know where you were at at 2 months and where i should be. I am foreign to the idea of exercise and don't know what is the best for me at the moment. I would like to do something at home. Have some kind of programme to follow. Invorporate walking and cycling and perhaps exercises at home with light dumbbels. What do you auggest? How often and length and all that? Dont want to go the gym as yet. Some tips and pointers i will really appreciate. Thanks!

    2 months out!

I am elated for you!! I am also 2 months post op when were you done? You look gorgeous girl!
  5. Really Janel i urge you to stuck to doc's orders there really are a reason for it. I was also hungry after the op for about 3 weeks. But it truly is head hunger. Fact is your body's insides don't even know what the f*ck hit it and it is panic stations in there. The hunger you feel is actually more due to habit. Another unpleasant surprise awaiting you is coming from week 4. Then your body has started to heal up and when you start eating more solids you're new pouch and everything in there is not too happy. The effect? Most of the times you're struggling cause it is either a quite painful (nerve endings coming back and freaking out) or you feel nauseous or it feels like food is stuck. For 3 weeks it was just not a happy time at food time for me. I was like oh man what did i do to myself! I cannot be feeling like this every time i eat!! BUT good news await. From 7 weeks it all falls into place somehow and it is fine to eat! Your body got accustomed, everything is working, all departments doing their job, and you are feeling good! I eat whatever i feel like eating and i feel wonderful! Only eat a little bit and then i am full and done. Such a freeing feeling. Of course i don't eat like my old ways. No fast food and junk. But hey i tell you, when you can eat eggs and chicken and veggies and fruit and even a piece of toast again - when you are ABLE to (because week 3 - 7 is shit when trying to eat) you are so happy you want to cry and happy to eat that. But don't worry about that now because you get cravings now. Where you at now we all were and it is normal. But please heed our advice who have been through it. And trust us. From week 7 onwards everything changes. Then your new body speaks louder than your head. And once THAT switch happens, you are really on the road full force. And it will come. Good luck i remember how horrible that period is. Please just stick it out, time flies by you'll see, take it day for day xxx

    So ashamed!

You will not fail, i promise. I went through the same as you. And 7 weeks after the op i am on 286 pounds (from 333). You can do it. And you WILL do it. Why? Because you are choosing life. x

    Question

Hi friends This op has changed my life. It is tough in the beginning but if i can survive it anyone can! I can be a bit of a drama queen you see... Starting weight was 333 pounds. I went down to about 322 on day of surgery on 17 April. Now I am at 286 pounds! You can read my blog (link at the bottom of this post). I made updates as i was going through some stages. It is quite tough the first few weeks. Difficult to balance the whole thing of how to eat and the effects. At some stages i was really down in the dumps. BUT it really gets better. And now, 7 weeks out things are much improved and settled. Best of all - i dont get cravings really and it is easy to eat so "little" and the weight just coming off! My health has improved dramatically. I was prediabetic, sore feet and legs, sleep apnea, struggling to get enough oxygen. Migraine attacks. Anti-depressants. All of that is something of the past. I am on NO medications! Not even on my anti-depressant any more and i feel goood! Good luck to you all and please contact me if you need some advice or just a ear to listen - a shoulder to lean on. Ive been there, and it will all be ok. Greetings from South Africa! xxx

Real Food - Is it worth the effort?

Yeah i hate eating too! What a mission . Glad i am not alone thought perhaps i was having some mental issues.. Just not cool to be hungry for food, then eating something, and then to either have stomach ache or feeling nauseous. Not cool man!
  10. Oh man! I wish we had crystal light in south africa. I used to drink that ten years ago when i was living in new york for a while. I totally fell in love with it and lived off it! (And NY bagels and cream cheese, darn it) I still have a strange faint pain in my right upper abdomen. Feels like somewhere where my liver is situated abouts. It was constant a few days ago and a sharp pain when i draw a breath. Now it is less painful (or have i gotten used to it?), but i still feel it when i draw a breath or sneeze. At some stage i was wondering if it couldn't be a stomach muscle that i pulled perhaps? I emailed my doctor, but he is very by the book, and informed me to have bloodtests done and do an abdominal scan. I don't know what to do. You see, we are really struggling financially and already in so much debt. My insurance also wont pay anything anymore so i would have to pay that cash and that is not something i can afford now. If it is really needed and important i would of course get it, because one shouldn't play with one's health obviously. But i cant help to wonder if this isn't a bit too much. I mean it is not horrible pain and just a muscle. And perhaps my Doc is one of those Docs that is quick to send for whatever tests and things. I don't know what to do. It makes it difficult to decide because the pain isn't horrible, so should i fork out all this cash that i don't actually really have you know. What would you have done? When i had my scans pre-surgery it showed that i had no gallstones. Only a fatty liver. What are your thoughts? I really need advice please, i am laying awake about this. (Oh and it is currently very cold in cape town and we are experiencing quite a heavy rainstorm!)
  11. I dont know where to post this but just have to share this! I am so giddy! So i am 6 weeks post op - and I have lost 45 pounds!! I cannot believe it! I am so happy ????
  12. Since earlier today I jave been having this constant muffled pain in my righthand side of my abdomen. Where I think my liver area is. You know the feeling of when you were still at school and running for exercise and you would get that stabbing pain when you are unfit? It is exactly that pain. Any idea what it might be? When i keep lie totally still i dont feel it, but when i inhale air i can feel it stab again. Also when i make any sudden movement. This freaks me out! Can it be my galbladder?? What are the symptoms for that?? And a hernia? Please help I am so damn paranoid!

    Things I will not miss...

Love this! I wont miss NOT fitting in the bath tub. I wont miss not having a big enough towel. I wont miss averting my eyes when I see a stranger looking at me and trying to shrink away.
  14. Hiya! If you can dont use any pain meds. I was feeling terrible all the time in the early days and totally sluggish and unwell. Then I decided to stop my meds and see what happens. And suddenly it was is if I escaped prison or something - felt much better! Meds did me more harm than good.
  15. Hi friends I am 5 almost 6 weeks post op. when is it safe for me to drink tablets and capsules again? Without crushing it? I can't stomach crushed pills anymore! Please let me know, as I am having terrible toothache and need to take a capsule!

    Feeling Icky

Oh my goodness I am at week 5 and really have a tough time now as well! Always feeling icky especially around mealtimes. I don't want to eat anymore! When I do I feel unwell, it is quite unpleasant. And my tummy is rumbling and it is as if the food punches me from the inside or something. What a mission! Then I have to sit down or lie down and feel a bit emotional!
  18. Obeasta

    Weird symptoms?!

Oh my goodness! Perhaps this has something to do with something I am experiencing of late. Please let me know what you think. I have been post op for 5 weeks now. And the last week I have been feeling like there is something strange stuck in the back of my throat, the right side. It's like there's something small there and I can't get it out. The closest similar feeling I ever had was when I ate some popcorn and a piece of the kernel got stuck there. It is def not something I've eaten, because I haven't eaten anything hard that could get weirdly stuck in there. It is very very very annoying. Any of you experienced this??
  19. Your son is really upsetting to me. I am so sorry that you have to go through this! Recovering from this surgery is hard enough! And now with your added things I am sure it Must be even tougher. I am thinking of you and hope he gets his act together. And very well done on your loss!

How far were you out before resuming cycling?

My doctor said I am fine to start cycling at home on stationary bike at 2 weeks out. Haven't though ;-( almost at week 5 but I plan to start tomorrow, seriously! I need to kick it up a notch. At last starting to feel human and getting accustomed to my pouch - aka Dramaqueen. X

    0-6 month

Wow thanks Danni! You're inspiring me to really do something regarding exercise. I am just over a month post op and haven't really done anything but go for walks (also not every day I have to admit). I have been feeling not the best and really struggled the first 3 weeks. It's tough to get through all the musts and mustnts and trying to get in Vitamins and all the Water and the exact food whilst struggling with head hunger as well - plus I am having some battles with my Insurance and it is calls and emails - BLAH! Anyhoo I couldn't really face exercise as well. But now that I read your post I realized you know, I have to make a plan and get structured exercise in now. This is the optimal time to lose weight now and I mustn't screw it up! There are so many thousands and thousands of people who so desperately need this surgery but won't ever be in the position to be able to get it. And I thus also owe it to myself to make the most of it. Tomorrow I will start serious planning to do this thing! I just want to thank you! And good luck! Please do let me know how you are progressing and when you'll go for your surgery, I want to cheer you on! Kind greetings from South Africa Obeasta

    What ya eating tonight?

Ladies! Please tell me how you make this refried beans? It is not part of my culture at all so I have no idea. We get tinned beans here, a few types, but how do I prepare it to make this refried beans? My pouch does NOT like chicken, and I seriously need protein, I'm getting too little!
