I bought lots of different one before surgery. Now I can even stand to smell them.. I hope that later I will be able to use them. What do you all use them for??. Apart from the dreaded protien shakes.

    MAY 2013 POST-OP GROUP

Yeah hi. I also had bad diarrea for a week. It was the worst.. It's all cleared up in the last few days. Never been so glad not to poop in my life. Lol if you go more than five times a day call your doc or else you risk dehydration.. Take care
  4. Hi all I have had, so embarrassing...a leaking bowel since day two after my op. I am now day five.. I go to sleep and I wake up and it has just leaked out of me...I don't feel like it was after I have passed wind or anything.. I have been very careful with anything that goes in my mouth. I am only taking in 10 grams of protien powder at meal. Not eating any sugar or fat..mostly just pain meds, water, a few ounces of black decaf tea with a tiny bit of skim milk. Chewable vitamins. Ect... Please don't tell me this is normal...running out of pads and self esteem..any clues guys....please......also I have an off and on temp since day two of surgery...makes me shake n chiver
  5. Rny is not popular yet in Australia. I often read on the American sites about how much hoo haa you all have to go through with your insurance..we are lucky here I guess. If the doc says that you need it done that's the end of the story. I think that if I wasn't for my band giving me terrible reflux that they would make me have the sleeve instead. I don't know anyone who has bypass. Tho know heaps of people that have the band or sleeve. It was hard to find a surgeon that does rny in Australia. In fact my surgeon practiced in the USA. In on Monday for my surgery....so scared.

    MAY 2013 POST-OP GROUP

I'm being a good girl. I finds 50 grams of protien powder a day. Plus any extra that I "eat" I find it best to get it out of the way I mix it up in the morning and sip at it all day. Everything tastes so horrible at the moment. And smells are discusting, I feel like I am pregnant. I am trying some passion lite Jello crystals to flavour my plain protien powder today..some times I use sugarfree liquid syrups.

Any aussie rny people out there..

Hi all surgery is all done, and just got home...the surgery took 8 hours to remove the band and clean up all the adhesions and do the bypass.. The poor surgeons back was broken.. I am glad that the first few days are over and I am starting to feel human again. My drain was giving me hell..tried to bribe a few nurses to take the thing out for me..it was instant relieve when it came out. The silly buggers in the hospital brought me apple juice and full sugar sorbet. Lucky the doc walked in and told me not to eat it because it would make me dump...they also sent me home with liquid panadol full of sugar...that instantly gave be the runs...did anyone have a headache after their bylass. I have had the most hideous headache and neck ache for two days.. Not dehydrated..tolerating fluids well.????

Any aussie rny people out there..

Hi all I'm from Perth.. Nice to see some fellow Aussies.. My doc said the same thing. If there is too much scar tissue he won't be able to do the revision on the day. I hoe it will be ok...I will be devastated if I have to wait.. My surgery was already cancelled once already.

http://s3.amazonaws.com/publicASMBS/GuidelinesStatements/Press%20Releases/EliminatingMigraineeadaches6-15-11.pdf Hey put this into your browser and have a look at this. The American bariatric site says that they have found evidence that migraine reduces after rny. Excerpt; GASTRIC BYPASS ALLEVIATES MIGRAINE HEADACHES, NEW STUDY FINDS Surgery Leads to Fewer and Less Severe Migraines For Most Morbidly Obese Patients with Migraines ORLANDO, FL – JUNE 15, 2011 – Bariatric surgery can lead to total or partial alleviation of migraines in nearly 90 percent of morbidly obese patients diagnosed with migraine headaches, according to a new study* presented here at the 28th Annual Meeting of the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). Over an average follow-up of three years after gastric bypass surgery, more than 70 percent of patients never had another migraine. More than 18 percent had partial resolution, with migraine attacks dropping from five to two per month. These patients also experienced less painful migraines and took fewer medications. Eleven percent of patients had no change in migraine status. “The incidence and severity of migraines was greatly reduced after bariatric surgery and weight loss, suggesting there are a number of people who are suffering from migraines who otherwise might not but for their excessive weight,” said Isaac Samuel, MD, Associate Professor, University of Iowa (UI) Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine and Director, UI Obesity Surgery Program. UI researchers reviewed the medical records of 702 patients who had Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) surgery between March 2000 and September 2009 who had a diagnosis of migraine for which they were being medically treated. Eighty-one patients qualified for the retrospective study and data were collected from institutional electronic medical records or via telephone. The post-operative follow-up period ranged from 12 months to eight-and-a-half years (patients followed up less than 12 months were excluded from the analysis). The researchers noted that while gastric bypass generally improved or resolved migraine headaches among all study participants, those who developed their first migraines after becoming obese experienced the most improvement. About 80 percent had total resolution and 14 percent had partial improvement. Of the people who experienced their first migraine before the onset of obesity, 75 percent showed improvement after surgery (46% had total resolutions, 29% had partial improvement). -more-
