    Constantly Choking On Food

I'm having the same problem. I emailed Dr. Miranda and she said that I may need a slight unfill if I'm getting stuck all the time. I emailed her a sample of what I'm eating each day because I'm not losing and she pointed out that I was eating mostly liquids like yogurt, oatmeal, protein shake. She said I should be able to eat three solid meals per day. If I can't eat them I may be too full. I'm trying to save myself the trip back to TJ for an unfill and hoping to lose enough fat to losen the band.
  2. I wish my complaint was stalling out for a week or two. I have lost 10lb total in 10 months with the lapband. To say I'm disapointed would not even cover it.
  3. B: Apple dippers from McD's, Orange Juice, Yoplait Yogurt L: 6 inch philly sandwhich and 1/2 large fry D: 3/4 burger + a few sweet poatao fries
  4. I have heard of phantom fills as well. I'd go to another doc and have the fluid checked out. Everytime I get a fill they totally take all out and then put it back in (it's a pressurized needle or something like that). Anyhow, I am over 1/2 filled and can also eat nearly everything. I am only losing now because I'm on Weight Watchers. Totally sucks to have paid $8,500 and now have to be on WW. Why have the surgery? BUT, the band does help me to not be starving all day while dieting which I felt before any time I tried to diet. Good luck and let us know what happens.

    Whats up with pasta?

Hmmm... I almost ate that same one today but ended up going out for a sandwich. I'm curious now how I'll do with it. So far I can still eat bread and had spaghetti the other day with no problem. I'm at 2.4 fill in a 4cc band.

Food getting stuck, do I need a fill?

I've been having the same problem and asked my nurtitionist. I was eating oatmeal for Bfast, yogurt for snack, a low cal icecream bar for desert. Lean Cuisine for lunch. All on a low cal diet and she brought it to my attention that these (except for the Lean Cuisine) are all liquid calories which tend to go right thru the band. She suggests 3 full meals (full meaning something that will stay with you). I was contemplating a fill as well but also get stuck here and there. Another suggestion she had was that I tend to take in more liquid calories because I am a little too tight and get frustrated at not being able to eat real food and tend to lean towards mushy more junky foods. I am going to try eating the three substantial meals a day and see if that helps.
  7. Hmmm... I am doing Weight Watchers and trying to stick to 25 points a day
  8. B: Slim Fast L: Lean Cuisine S: Yogurt & Apples w/ Caramel D: Burger & Sweet Potato Fries
  9. My birthday is two weeks after surgery and I am not telling my coworkers about the procedure. We go to lunch every year (no exceptions). Any suggestions as to what I should order that will go down easily? Any suggestions for the type of restaurant?

    Big Medicine

I'm a lover too!! If I could have, I'd have tried to hunt down Dr. Garth to do mine!!!! I can't wait for the next season. No one seems to know when it starts...

    Slow Losers - Unite!

Hey everyone. Can I be queen of the slow losers? I haven't lost anything either. I just started following Weight Watchers and so far lost two pounds the first week. It can be so discouraging when other folks from August have already lost so much and I'm stuck at 0. It's nice to know that I'm not alone! =)
  12. So it's been 4 months and gasp!! I haven't lost a thing but my sanity. I read all the posts and KNEW everyone said this is just a tool, but I wouldn't believe it! I thought I'd get this surgery, eat less and the weight would fall off. Sounds simple right? It turns out I have to diet...gasp again! So yesterday... day one of starting Weight Watchers. At least having the band will make it a little easier because I will get full faster. Oh bah humbug!!!! Anyone else feel my pain?
  13. Hello all. I got my band on 08/31 and am not losing. I've had 1 fill on 10/13 of 1.8cc and it's hardly done anything for me. I can eat anything and still get hungry and can eat nearly as much as before. Am I incompatible with the band? Does it hate me? I thought I'd be able to eat like a "normal" person and have whatever only in small doses and instead I can have whater in big doses. Agh!!!

    What made you do it?

I was an Atkins junkie for two years and lost nearly all my excess weight and for the first time was high on life and just felt really good. Then I got pregnant and have gained EVERYTHING back. I just can't face the idea of having to go thru another tough two years to get the weight back off only to risk it coming back. I need something to help reduce my portions and that's what the band has done for me. I'm just beginning to learn to eat correctly. That is the hard part. I can still gain if I eat a bowl of brownies for breakfast instead of something healthy.

    Is This Normal?

Oh wow... been there done that. I've gotten so used to it now I just walk into the bathroom cool as a cucumber, spit up my food quietly and go back to the table. No one ever even notices. It sure does hurt to be stuck though. I am the same way with chicken (or any meat) unless it's REALLY saucy.

    A fool for my tool...

Well... thanks everyone for your advice/input. I have typically been eating nothing but high fat foods such as meatloaf or cheeseburgers. I think I am restricted enough. I can only eat about 8 oz at a time and I PB 1-2 a week so I don't want to be any more restricted. I know that the problem is what I'm eating and not how much. Since I've been more aware the last two days due to counting points I've managed to eat plenty to stay full and still not exceed my daily points. It just took me a LONG 4 months to realize that the band isn't what is going to do it for me... I am.
  17. Hello all. I'm trying to figure out if I need another fill or if I'm just eating too much junk or what. You can post what a day of meals is like for you?
  18. I can see why all of your are doing well and I'm not. I can do well with my meals, it's my snack choices that are probably keeping me from losing. It's only 12 today and I've already had WAY too many chocolates. Yesterday, I got stuck trying to have a chicken sandwhich and got mad because it was so hard to eat so I threw it away and filled up on cookies and cake. They go down so much easier. I'm so dissapointed in myself! I thought after $8,500 that the band would have helped me a little. Instead I'm still gaining.
  19. B: 2 packets of Maple/Brown Sugar Oatmeal L: Bologna sandwhich S: Way too many chocolates D: Will be California Pizza Kitchen
  20. Hi all. I had no idea I was lactose intolerant until recently and bought tons and tons of cases of Atkins drinks only to find they give me a tummy ache. So any suggestions on how to do a slim fast type diet w/ out milk?

    I Hate My Band!!!!!!!!

Hi twin!!!! I'm also self pay and suddenly the extra payment is way too much for our family and my hubby and I have had it out several times for me putting this debt on us. Also, I GAINED weight as well and I've been out of surgery for over 3 months. The rest of my August thread is losing left and right. I FINALLY got a fill and it's JUST started working in the last week. I finally feel much more restricted. Hang in there and this day will come. I can't tell you how I've been hanging my head in front of those who know I put my family in debt and paid $8500 in order to gain weight!!!!! Who does that? What was I thinking. So, I'm eating way less (as of last week) and lost two lbs. I am praying this 2 lb a week loss keeps up!!! Please please!! I feel ya!!!
  22. I haven't taken any pills since the surgery for fear they will get stuck. What is everyone else doing? I am sick and desperately want to pop a couple pills but are too afraid. I have taken the tiny Sudafed's but my cold medicine is a liquigel and can't be broken. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks everyone!!
  23. It feels like to me that I get blocked at the band and anything I eat/drink right away just piles up and will back up into my mouth over the tiniest hiccup or cough. You will know if you PB. It's like a babies spit up only it usually hurts because it means you're stuck and the food won't go down. PB is a sweet term for what really happens. It's not comfortable at all!! It has taken me a few months to recognize when I may PB and stop (and sometimes spit up) before getting really stuck and painful. Good luck to ya!!! Beyond chewing the best advice is tiny little bites. Small small small!!!! I have a bad habit of big bites and it doesn't matter how much I chew if the whole bite goes down, it's stuck =(

    Surgeon Seeking Feedback

I appreciate that my doctor doesn't charge for fills. He charges $100 for the floro and that is much more resonable than what other doctors in my area charge. Also, I only needed two fills as they are aggresive in giving fills whereas other doctors charge several hundred dollars and give only a little at a time.
  25. I was a big snacker as well and it's helped with that. My old snack used to be 3-4 donuts and now it's 1. Or I'd eat chips/crackers till 1/2 the box was gone. Now about 7 triscuits and cheese and I'm good.
