    What ya eating tonight?

Only second day on soft stage. Tried an ounce of flaked, broiled Alaskan salmon-just sale and pepper-and I'm a sorry camper! An ounce of tuna on 2 saltines at lunch was fine, though.

To log, or not to log

I'm early on as a post-op & use Lose It to keep track of nutrients & daily calories. I don't feel obsessive about what I'm eating, but I noticed I was getting obsessive about weighing myself, so I'm trying to curb that!

Length of time off of work?

My doctor approved me for 8 weeks due to my multiple sclerosis. Glad he did since I'm not progressing too well.

    What ya eating tonight?

First day advanced to soft food. Lunch was one ounce of tuna finely minced with a bit of mayo and relish and 2 Town House crackers. Delish!! Supper was one ounce of shredded roast turkey loin w/a bit of stock to moisten it, and a 1/4 cup of fat free refried beans w/a bit of salsa on top. Also yum. Took me awhile to get supper in, but I tolerated both meals fine.
  5. I had a lot of pain & so had trouble getting up to the bathroom & needed help. Also, I had a lot of nausea & but for my significant other making me get water in every hour, I'd have been back in the hospital. I was also weak & couldn't shower independently for a week. Everyone is different & I'm way on the not-so-great-post-op end of things, & by no means typical!

    diarrhea

I've had constant diarrhea since surgery. I am lactose free. Get all my protein & fluids in-it just explodes out the other end! I so hope thi is not my life now. Curious what your doctor has to say after all the testing.
  7. I'm 2weeks out & don't yet feel even in the ballpark of normal, but everyone is different!
  8. I'm completely lactose free, and yet it continues. Just hope I'm absorbing enough nutrients. And also hoping that this is not my life forever-tied to a toilet.
  9. I guess I'm lucky. I don't feel hungry. I can tell when I need food though because I get quite weak. Now if I could just get rid of the intractable explosive diarrhea...
  10. Pixie dust to Janel! How long to first BM? I'd laugh but it hurts. RNY 3/11 and I've had no BM, just completely liquid explosive diarrhea, 5-10 times a day. I feel like the bottle of liquid colace my doctor sent me home with is mocking me!
  11. Cranial malady-my shakes are all lactose free & I'm using lactaid or soy milk. I see no difference in the diarrhea when I add a 1/4 cup of ricotta. Janel-I hear you re the energy level! I am so grateful my surgeon approved me for an initial 8 week leave. I am concentrating on getting to next diet stage so I can add some fiber (retried beans here I come) in hopes of alleviating the diarrhea, & then I'll worry about energy levels. My spasms have not been too bad w/o baclofen, but I'm still on codeine, so that may be helping.
  12. Kraney: caffeine free instant coffee and unsweetened dark cocoa powder-like a tsp-help cut thru the sweetness when I'm mixing with milk. If you're mixing with water lemon juice helps. Otherwise I wouldn't be getting in the protein. Although given the incredible diarrhea, not sure what I'm absorbing!

    What ya eating tonight?

Foranewme: what about blending up some cooked shrimp, fat free mayo, lemon juice, sea food seasoning? Progresso onion soup heated with 1/4 cup ricotta melted in it?
  14. Glad mist everyone is doing so great!! I am 8 days post op, still having intractable diarrhea. Today at least I got in all my protein. Still unable to gag down any meds, even liquid or crushed. Weak but trying to walk. Blended smooth Progresso soup is my favorite thing. The protein drinks are so sweet they make me nauseous. My doc seems to be attributing my very slow progress to my PRE-existing MS. Maybe. Guess time will tell!
  15. Cranialmalady thx for the encouragement. The diarrhea continues. I'm getting in enough fluid but still working on protein. The constant up & down to the toilet is exhausting & I'm not sleeping great. But I was able to walk around my parking lot today, & even put my own socks on! I'm happy for all those doing so well. It gives me hope that I can get better.
  16. Haven't posted in several days. Been having a rought time. RNY 3/11/13. Lots of nausea. Trouble gagging down any protein. Have not been able to get down any of my crushed meds. Pain is significant, although the liquid codeine helps. And the best part, liquid diarrhea. Copious amounts. They were going to readmit me but my sig other-22 years in the Army--said he could get the requisite liwuid into me. And he has, using his Army voice. So enough water but not nearly enough nutrution. I really hope my bowels figure out what they are supposed to be doing soon, cause the constant diarrhea is a nightmare.
  17. Day 3 post RNY. I've managed to get down 360 mls clear liquids more during the night. Still have some nausea, haven't passed gas but I can feel it rumbling in there! The abdominal pain is brutal, though. ESP the left side. My surgeon said they had to clean up a lot of adhesions while they were i there so maybe that's why I still have such pain. I'm afraid to advance the diet for fear I'll vomit, which would be excruciating. I keep thinking just get through this week & things will get better.
  18. Sorry-have not posted post op. rough few days. Trouble with pain control & lots of nausea docs finally upped pain med dose last night & I was able to sleep. Gonna retry sips water today & see if I can walk.

how long were you off work

My surgeon approved me for 8 weeks to start off but that's because I have MS and I'm slow to recover from everything, even a cold.
