  1. Oh you had a JP drain. Mine is a penrose drain that looks like a flat manicotti coming out of my side. It doesn't drain into anything but a bandage. So I change that at least twice a day. It just gross. Can't wait to get it taken out on Wednesday!

  2. Omg I am so glad I found your post!!! I have a big penrose drain in my left side and it is the worst part of the whole experience! It's gross and uncomfortable and makes everything more difficult. My surgery was Tuesday the 16th and I won't get it out till next Wesnesday. I've heard it is super long too which grosses me out but I can't wait for it to be out!! Thank you so much for posting about this!!

  3. My surgeon just came in and said it is perfectly normal. He said the blood will get darker in color and then just go away. Apparently, the blood was from all of the resectioning that was done. It has to make it's way out somehow. Other than that, I've done awesome and am now waiting to be dismissed!!!

  4. I had surgery Tuesday the 16th. Today I has my first bowel movement and it was loose, which didnt surprise me. But it was bright red with blood. Has anyone else experienced this? The resident came in and said maybe its just the staple lines bleeding, but I'm waiting for my surgeon to come in now. Anyone have any thoughts??? I'm getting nervous.

  5. So' date=' did any one elses surgeon try to get them to change from RNY to the sleeve? My doctor seemed quite persistent, though said the choice was mine, and it didn't seem to bother him that I choose the RNY. He kept going on about doing a fabulous single incesion through the belly button, but seriously, I have a road-map on my stomach from 3 pregnancies, so regardless of how much weight I lose, I will never be showing my bare stomach in public. I am wondering if maybe he just wanted more practice doing the single incesion, lol.[/quote']

My surgeon did the same thing at my first appt. kept telling me I could do just fine with a sleeve instead of RNY. I listened to him but felt the RNY was still the best option. When I went for my preop appt last week I schedule surgery, he didn't seem bothered at all with what I chose. I do think you're right that they just want more practice with the sleeve. The coordinator of my program said it's like the "new" thing they're trying to get people to do. For me, it just didn't have enough proven benefits. Now surgery is Tuesday!!! Can't wait! Good luck to you!

  6. I'm so glad to hear that other people are having the same issues as I am. I've jumped through all my hoops and am waiting for my insurance to approve my surgery. I'm 5'4", 230 lbs and at 34 I've had high blood pressure for quite a while. I'm an RN and I actually work in surgery. I have a good close support system with my best friends, fiancé and parents. But, at work I've definitely kept it to myself. I truly don't want to hear everyone else's opinions about what is right for me. How could anyone else possibly know?? My other big concern is the fact that I have two sisters who are overweight and I haven't told them yet.... I truly fear their response to my news... I feel like they will think I am somehow leaving them behind. All I keep reminding myself is that this is MY life and this is what I believe is best for me. It's still gonna be tough though.... I need to tell them soon, surgery could be in next couple weeks... Good luck everyone! Just know you're not going through this alone!!
