Protein Drinks/ Shakes
I thought I read somewhere that the body can only absorb 25 g Protein at a time... so, 50 in your shake? is that a waste??? Also... do the shakes really make you feel full/satisfied? Seems like they'd just drain thru the band leaving you empty again... ???

How is weight loss for people over 50?
You know the rubbery wrist bands that Lance Armstrong started with... ??? Everyone has them now... We banders need one too! There is a minister in Missouri who thought up the idea of a "complaint free world?" He had wrist bands made that say "SPIRIT A Complaint Free World" on them... The idea is to wear the band on one wrist and to keep it there xxx number of days... if you complain, you have to move it to the other wrist and start over again... It started off as a challenge to his congregation, then others heard about it - and the church has sold millions of them... Anyway... I thought I'd wear a band (I picked a pink breast cancer one in honor of my mother)... and when I feel hungry, I snap my bracelet - accessing real hunger/head hunger... hoping to keep me on track... and as a back up, I'll keep a food journal. AND FORCE MYSELF TO BE HONEST... most of the time I don't want to write my cheats down, so that stops me... I'm grabbing for every tool I can... It's been a lifetime of wrong-doing... and I'm determined to make this work! Now, if only I had my internal band!!! katie:ranger:

That's what I am hoping for... Eat the RIGHT things and let the band tell me when to stop... I loathe looking up calories, weighing food (or guessing wts) and tallying... UGH! Been there/done that forever! Good luck tweaking your fill Deb... I can't wait to bond... errrr.. BAND with you all! : )

uw madison fills?
Hi Terry... I'll be working with Dr. Sundby... what are your problems with him? I heard he's not ultra-friendly, but is a good surgeon... Dr. Huepenbecker at Dean West is pretty easy to work with... (I've dealt with MANY surgeons and know how to handle their personalities/egos) :bored

Going for my Band tomorrow!
I had Lap-gall bladder surgery and sure DO NOT remember the shoulder pain everyone is talking about here... wouldn't the two surgeries be similar in the way the "blow you up" with gas? Still waiting for my bandification....

Dang! There isn't a way to skip calorie counting, is there? I hate figuring all that out... Guess I'm going to have to learn to love it, huh? Do most of you keep a food journal?

Dehydration Pre-Op and into Surgery
yeah... my dh got dehydrated three days after a spine surgery.... he couldn't walk and was having seizure like movements... 6 hrs of tests in the middle of the night, getting mri techs out of bed, etc, thinking he was bleeding into his brain following the surgery.... turned out he was dehydrated. it can do some nasty things!

Does anyone know how to get into our journals?
Hi Terri What do you see when you click on "JOURNALS" in the top menu bar? I created one and now when I go there I have a button that says "go to my journal" (or something to that effect)... Can't remember having to do much of anything to get it started...

Dehydration Pre-Op and into Surgery
dehydration is NEVER good... think of a raw chicken breast that sat out on the counter over night.... all dried out, stiff and hard and "brittle!" That's what your innards get like.

I agree! That would be awesome!!! Is it just "me", or do all the buttons come up "blank" in the Journal area? Outlined box with blue 'x' in it? (missing button images)

IRL Support?
Wombat... you and the wife of your co-worker can be the pioneers and role models for all the LB's to come in your area : ) Cyndilou... it was a requirement for me too, and I did enjoy it. The "team" also offers monthly speakers --- and the next one deals with getting and keeping your head in the game... (psychiatrist)... He's supposed to be an excellent speaker - so I'll be going to that too! I'm lucky to be close to all of this!

IRL Support?
This group is the BEST 24/7 support group possible... yeah, 5 hrs is a bit of a hike for a session, unless you travel there for fill days... maybe schedule around that?

IRL Support?
How many of you attend "IN REAL LIFE" support groups after banding? I visited a group last week that meets monthly. I was delighted it was a LB group and not WLS tossed together. I guess there are new topics each month. Whatever helps - I'm there!!! It was nice to see others "in process" of losing... 2 were about at goal, 1 newly banded and one not showing much progress after a year... katie

Eleven!
Justbein'me... Congratulations and keep it going! You're the youngest I've ever heard of being banded! That's another amazing feat! I wish I had gotten on top of my weight situation waaaay back when. I've wasted so much time and have missed so many experiences! All my best to you!
