  1. I've listened to ALL the HP audio books. Jim Dale is amazing. I can't imagine reading them would be 1/2 as good as listening to them... With all the long, unfamiliar and strange names, elaborate spells, ingredients, etc... I know I'd just skip over them as I read---- Dale does amazing narration... His voice changes are unbelievable! :clap2: I'm on disc 11 of 17, and LOVING this book... wish I were home today listening instead of at work!!! :ranger: Katie BELATED HAPPY BDAY FAITH!
  2. I stood in front of the "diet" shelves at SAMS yesterday... EAS whey Protein powder in a big 6 pound bag ($24.88) EAS Protein Bars Boost High Protein drinks Bistro MC Protein shakes Atkins drinks Opti-Fast LowCarb Bars South Beach products Slim Fast shakes Packaging talked about "power" and "body building" and "muscle building..." Well, I guess I'm body-rebuilding... Have any of you tried the "protein powder" or other items listed? :ranger:katie
  3. Hey Jobstud... I would share meals with my wife & kids if I were you... just tell the waiter to bring an extra plate and sample from everyone else's... Have a terrific time! "I got my lap band and I'm going to DISNEY WORLD!" : )

  6. My psych eval will be two hours too... One with the dr... the other hour is an "online" thing! My team leader said it's just to make sure I'm not suicidal... or crazy... I think it's going to be INTERESTING!!! Just relax and be yourself... I'm sure you'll do fine!

  9. I'm playing the "weighting" game too... The nurse practitioner I'm been working with will be calling me any day now with results from my labs... I got a sneak peek today, and see I'm "pre-diabetic." I'm hoping that will expedite things... It's normal for the group I'm working with to take 6 months... I'm going to step on some toes and try to move things along... my "group" eval in 08/07... and the team will discuss me on 08/13... hoping they'll say, "This lady is incredible... lets bump her up to the top of our list.." Wish I could be a fly on the wall to listen in... that's for sure! I don't expect my band to be my miracle, but my new best friend... one who'll keep me on the straight and narrow.... katie:ranger:
  10. 99 and belowNormal100 to 125Pre-diabetes (impaired fasting glucose)126 and aboveDiabetes* A fasting glucose test for me came out at 121.... ARGH! There is NO diabetes in my family, so this is totally due to my fattness and poor diet... I got a sneak peek at my test results when in for an infected thumb today... New dr. I'd never seen before gave me "the look," and I quickly said "I'm working with the Weight Managment Team, hoping for a lap band." He relaxed a bit and went about his business with my sore thumb... On a positive note, should help with the insurance approval, huh? Feeling up and down all at the same time... this can't happen fast enough... : ( Katie
  11. My PCP actually asked me if I'd ever considered it... I gave a quick and resounding "NO" back to him... well..... after thinking about it and reading more about the procedure... how it's done, and how it works... I changed my mind.... I wasted well over a year "pondering" but feel great about my decision now... I emailed him yesterday to ask for a letter of support... I had an enthusiastic "OF COURSE... tell me where to send it!" By the time I see him again, I will have been thru my 4 hour appt with the psych, nutritionist and surgeon... I can't wait to update him!!! katie
  12. this is an excellent thread... I haven't been banded yet, but have had several surgeries... I think EVERYONE has those thoughts going thru their heads... We're really tougher than we give ourselves credit for, huh? I bet the OR & recovery room staff could write some interesting stories about what people say as they come to.... LOL! katie
  13. the lap band may be the LAST STRAW for most of us, but it's not the "last straw..."
  14. What I'm looking forward to is not being able to go back... my band will be with me forever, keeping an eye on the amount of food I eat, what I eat, and WHY I eat... It's too bad I couldn't do it without help... but after all these years and years of dieting, I know my band will be my new BFF!!! There is power in knowledge... so if you've been reading here, following your doctor's orders and support offered right there... you'll be fine! And don't forget.... we're all here to hold your hand!!! katie
  15. BUMP! Waiting to hear what the Dr. has to say Thursday.... katie
  16. I read that if you're hydrated enough before eating, you won't miss it while you eat... I can easily NOT DRINK & eat... so that won't be hard for me once I'm banded.... katie
  17. Just notify your insurance company that the surgery date has been moved... Don't worry, you won't be "unapproved" because the date changed! I'm just starting the process but already know that I do not have to have a sleep study or stress test - I would think you'd know that by now too. Try to relax... write your questions down before you go to the dr. tomorrow... that way you won't forget anything!
  18. I've always thought people should get this surgery for free, being SKIN donors and all.... k
