ECUJenn replied to Kimberly's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used my Magic Bullet every morning to make m Protein shake. It is on sale this month at costco too I think, if you have a membership. HW 344, DOS 320, Surgery Date 2/20/13, CW 291.1 Sent from my iPad using RNYTalk -
Aunt Flow during Surgery?
ECUJenn replied to coolnessa22's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine started the night before surgery, nurses were totally cool about it. Had to wear the awesome mesh panties during surgery, but my catheter was gone when I got to my room so they let me use tampons. Sweet ladies! HW 344, DOS 320, Surgery Date 2/20/13, CW 291.1 Sent from my iPad using RNYTalk -
I say ask your doctor. Mine really really requests that you stick with bariatric chewables for at least the first couple of years. I have tried Celebrate and Bariatric Advantage and for the multi I really like Celebrate better than Bariatric, but there are lots of favors and I haven't tried them all yet. I also take the calcium chewy bites because they remind me of starburst, but I have to take 2 at a time because of the dosage. I agree that you have to find one that works for you. My doctor recommended I try melatonin first before he prescribed something and that has really helped. Just a thought if you don't want to take a medication. HW 344, DOS 320, Surgery Date 2/20/13, CW 294.9 Sent from my iPad using RNYTalk

Just putting it out there that my program has a psychiatrist on staff that all he does is bariatric patients. He takes very few insurances, and even though he took mine the visit still cost 200. But it could have cost 500-600 I believe. Keep your head up and try to remember that this is just a small barrier in this process. Have you talked to the doctor about recommending someone? Surely they know some surgery friendly psychs? HW 344, DOS 320, Surgery Date 2/20/13, CW 294.9 Sent from my iPad using RNYTalk

Ugh this needs to stop

May surgeon puts you on Prilosec for the first 12 months post surgery. To help control the acid in your pouch and remnant stomach. Not so much for heartburn but to keep the levels low too prevent ulcers. I didn't have issues with heartburn before, but I take it everyday. It is a 4 dollar prescription. Just a thought that maybe you should be taking it anyways. HW 344, DOS 320, Surgery Date 2/20/13, CW 294.9 Sent from my iPad using RNYTalk -
Fabulous February Post-Op's
ECUJenn replied to ArmyWife&Mom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, I had LASIK 4 years ago and clearly your "friend" has never had it or she wouldn't compare. But that's kind of beside the point. I have been fortunate that most people that I have told have been supportive, to the point that many people at work have signed up to participate in a few 5ks with me! However, I didn't tell many people before I had the surgery for that exact reason. Sometimes people are fearful of how you are going to change. What if you don't want to be their friend anymore? What if you are skinnier than them? What if you can be more successful professionally? What if you find a beautiful person to be with? It can be any number of reasons. I see my surgery as elective, only in the fact that I ELECTED to have it. I elected to tackle this monkey that has been on my back for 29 of the 33 years i have been on this earth. I elected to stop making myself feel like a failure because i couldnt do this on my own. We all have our own reasons and they are all equally valid. But if your friend would rather you end up with more difficult health conditions, or dead before you should be, then I guess it is pretty clear where the friendship ranks? I worry that sounds harsh, but a few years ago I went threw several losses that cost me almost everything and I had to rebuild my life. I figured out what it means to be a real friend. By chance, just to balance my perspective a bit, could she just be scared for you? HW 344, DOS 320, Surgery Date 2/20/13, CW 294.9 Sent from my iPad using RNYTalk -

How many pounds to new pants?
ECUJenn replied to groovykg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't feel bad...I am down almost 50 pounds and still wearing my 28s. They are loose on me, but not loose enough to justify throwing away. I keep thinking 'what the heck did they look like BEFORE' HW 344, DOS 320, Surgery Date 2/20/13, CW 294.9 Sent from my iPad using RNYTalk -

Length of time off of work?
ECUJenn replied to Kurstin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You don't have to tell anyone except your HR manager. I just told people I was having some surgery done. People do ask questions, but i just responded with "im ok, thanks for asking" and generally people left it there. STD can be a great option if you have it. For me, it enabled me to have some vacation time remaining for the rest of the year. HW 344, DOS 320, Surgery Date 2/20/13, CW 294.9 Sent from my iPad using RNYTalk -
How much of the protein shake are you able to consume?
ECUJenn replied to Kurstin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I consume about 12 oz, click decaf coffee powder blended with Water and ice on my 45 minute commute to work. I typically finish it just as I am pulling into the parking lot. HW 344, DOS 320, Surgery Date 2/20/13, CW 294.9 Sent from my iPad using RNYTalk -
I log on MFP, but I find that it doesn't make me obsess about what I eat. I have eaten some things that some one here would say were 'bad' or whatever, but I like to log those things as a way of showing myself that I can have a mini cupcake and still fit within my calorie and Protein goals. I had this surgery at 33 to hopefully avoid many of the comorbibities that can be associated with obesity, but I have struggled with my weight my entire life. I hoarded food, ate in secret, and all other manners of unhealthy eating and I am set on not continuing those unhealthy patterns. I find that MFP actually helps with that because I am being honest about it AND and paying attention to how I feel when I consume. I never thought that I would be satisfied with a few bites of really good bread instead of half a loaf. But when I realize I am satisfied and still within my nutritional goals for the day? That is a success for me. Success is truly defined by everyone individually, it isn't always the number on the scale. For me, I want to have a healthy relationship with food, be active and love life. For now, logging what I eat seems to be helping me achieve these goals. Sorry..this is a little long? Oops. HW 344, DOS 320, Surgery Date 2/20/13, CW 294.9 Sent from my iPad using RNYTalk

One other thing about the NuvaRing (I used it when I was married) don't use Tampax Pearl Tampons. Since they spread horizontally mine kept pulling the ring out. Can't say that happens to everyone, but it did to me. HW 344, DOS 320, Surgery Date 2/20/13, CW 294.9 Sent from my iPad using RNYTalk

Length of time off of work?
ECUJenn replied to Kurstin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I took 3 weeks of STD. I could have taken up to 6 but I work in a small office so the burden was on everyone else while I was out. I felt up to going back, so I did. HW 344, DOS 320, Surgery Date 2/20/13, CW 297.5 Sent from my iPad using RNYTalk -

I completely understand. I want to get my CSA box full of wonderful veggies. I go back to my dr. On the 1st and I am hoping he will clear me for some veggies. I am exhausted with protein too. HW 344, DOS 320, Surgery Date 2/20/13, CW 297.5 Sent from my iPad using RNYTalk -
