    Protein powder

I add flavorless protein powder to jello! My surgeon recommends putting it in everything you can stand to help get the protein in. It made my jello a little funky, but it was worth it to make it better for me!
  2. My surgeon includes protein toward water intake but only if it see through like the isopure (that's why I have been using those instead of protein powder). I have been able to get the liquids in by sipping ALL the time. I mix my Isopure with water and ice and just sip it constantly.

    January 2013 Post Op

I recently discovered this stuff called Lean Dessert Protein. It isn't as protein dense as the Isopure, but it still passes my doc's rules. I have a whole container of Fresh Cinnamon Roll and I mix it with Almond milk (I am lactose intolerant). I've only found it on Amazon and it comes in a lot of different flavors. I am planning mixing some into vanilla pudding when I move to the next stage of the RNY diet. Pre op I made a carrot cake oatmeal (really just oatmeal with shredded carrots, some spices, and cooked with almond milk) and added this protein powder and it was great. Also, I picked up a bag of whey protein isolate (unflavored) at Vitamin Cottage. I have mixed a little in with my jello while preparing it and it seems to work great. I didn't add a lot, just wanted to get a little protein in to everything I am consuming. I am planning on sneaking this powder into soups and other items that get added to my diet in the next phase. A lot of this are tricks I learned from the Lapband support groups. None of it tastes fantastic, but you have to find ways to make it decent!

I think you should try the isopure for yourself. I do not like any flavor but the grape. I am a huge fan of crystal light and to me it just tastes like another flavor of crystal light. I like it right out of the bottle, but I like it more mixed with grape propel. You have to keep an open mind about this stuff. I had my band for three years and protein shakes were a big part of my life. I've tried just about every brand out there and this was the least offensive one to me. I know you can find it at gnc and on Amazon.

    Jan 14... My LUCKY day!

So far so good since my revision from band to bypass 1/14. I've been home several days, drinking my liquids, and taking long walks! My scale jumped about 10 pounds while I was in the hospital (I was mad even though I was expecting it), but I have lost all that and am down 3 pounds from my weight Monday morning. I am hoping that in a few more days I will see better progress as more of the swelling goes down and I lose the rest of this painful gas. The gas has been the worst part. The pain with the conversion is well controlled with the drugs the doc prescribes and you can be up and moving around that first night. Overall, I am still shocked at how "easy" the whole thing was to go through.

    dairy free protein shake?

I had my surgery this past Monday and the hospital served me the Grape Isopure. I was so blown away that I used my iPad in the hospital to order some from Amazon. It is dairy and lactose free, tastes great, and doesn't have that Protein after taste. The nurse gave me a suggestion that I have been following and I am telling anyone who will listen. Prepare an Isopure mixture of Isopure Grape Frost with Propel Zero grape. I have done the mixtures from half and half to more or less protein depending on where I am with my protein and liquid intake for the day. Since I am on liquids, I start the day with half/half and as the day progresses I just mix it up based on my needs. It tastes great and makes it so I only need the one bottle to carry around! I also read on Amazon that you can do something similar by mixing up a batch of grape koolaid (the mix itself is sugar free) with regular Water and using it to mix with the Isopure. I chose not to do that because of the extra "stuff" in the propel.

Anyone else having amazing grumbling going on in their belly? I was "running" to the bathroom every time it started but just ended up sitting there listening to it rumble. I have had a few movements, but they were not solid and the grumbling only stops for a few minutes after I go. I hope someone else with surgery 1/14 is having this same thing and maybe someone a week further out can tell me when it went away!!

Just left the hospital and am heading home. I have had some pretty bad pain at night , but I walked a ton and it helped get those pains to go away. I am still on the pain meds, but I was able to pass gas, burp, pee, and drink drink drink! I am looking forward to getting home and really getting this journey started!

Band to Bypass Scheduled for 1/14

That is the primary reason my doc said no sleeve. It is what I wanted once I knew my band was coming out but the risk for the reflux worsening is too high.
