    Annoyed..:/

Vachick- I forget, who was your surgeon? I shopped around, but found my area's leading practice to be too salesy and showy. I ended up with internal surgeons that just happen to do wls. I didn't get pitches, I was on my own to get psych eval and find my own Protein shakes. They do have a nutritionist that I have to pay $100 for, and I have to attend 3 post op support group sessions at my hospital.
  4. For the past year, I have had a small business doing cake parties, mostly for kids' birthdays, where I lead the guests in a cupcake decorating project. This cake decorating thing was a big contributor to my weight. So right before surgery, I packed up all my cake stuff and sent it to the basement, and cleaned out my pantry. I have not yet, however, disabled my website or FB page, but since I'm starting a masters program in a few months and returning to work at the end of summer, I'd just decided the cake thing was done. So tonight I got an email from someone requesting a cake party for April 6. My first reaction was to decline, but now I'm wondering if I should go ahead and do it. I have enough control at this point that I'm not going to be eating cupcakes or frosting, BUT, that might be a bit difficult, because I kind of do need to taste at least a little bit just to make sure everything is ok. So, decline and close the business for good because I am focusing on my post op success? Or be strong and take the gig because money is money and I have nothing else going on?

    I can't do this!

Yes, totally normal. But hydration is first priority. I've been keeping a food diary, and every day it seems my Protein improves just a little bit. Try Popsicles, hot tea, or Soups. I added Protein powder to instant pudding, and that was pretty awesome. I have also been drinking a hot chocolate with 1/2 mug of chocolate Protein shake and 1/2 skim milk. It's early days for you, but your appetite will increase a little each day. Just keep Water or whatever with u and sip. I find warm things much easier.
  6. Just cleared for puréed items. I was browsing soup recipes, and came across peanut soup. Provided it was completely sugar free, would it be too rich or heavy?
  7. Well, I'm now looking at this recipe, which is only 1/2 cup of peanut butter: http://www.food.com/recipe/thai-peanut-soup-144466

    I've found it!

You need to to try Premier Protein. U can get them at Costco, Sam's, or Amazon.
  9. What pants are u guys wearing? I'm 1 week out, and my belly is still very tender. I have 1 pair of black yoga pants and 1 pair of grey maternity pants that are in the laundry. Everything else is way too uncomfortable in the waistband (except for Jammie pants). Today I've been fighting with a pair of maternity jeans that don't want to stay on and keep slipping down, so I guess it's time to say goodbye to these. But surely, all of you can't be wearing maternity clothes? Are u back in regular stuff now?

    Bad day

U need to get some protein and calories. I've been drinking hot chocolate protein shake with 1/2 skim milk and I made some protein pudding, which is pretty good. While soups are filling my need to eat, they do taste good. I've been so tempted to try watermelon today. It's TORTURE preparing dinner for my family, even if it is stuff I pull from the freezer.

    Bad day

Yes! I'm 8 days post op and supposed to be on liquids another week. I am SOOO hungry.
  12. Good grief! Why can't I fall asleep? 1 week out. Midday Roxicet knocks me out. Pm dose keeps me wide awake. I finally dozed off and 20 minutes later, my four year old comes crawling into my bed. Thanks so much. Awake again.

    No more protien shakes

I just made protein pudding, using 2 cups of skim, 2 scoops of protein powder, and 1 small box of SF pudding. It's really yummy, and I think u can get 6-8 servings out of it.
  14. I am day 6 post op, and am so uncomfortable when I try to sleep. I feel like any position is painful for my neck or shoulders or back or belly. I have to stay on my back mostly sitting up. I woke up at 4 am because I was so uncomfortable, have been trying to nap for like an hour now and am still miserable. This is even with a fresh dose of Roxicet, which usually just knocks me out. Not today! Is anyone else having this issue?
  15. Did any of u have to give yourself Lovenox injections post op? Did u follow through religiously? I ask because I was given a prescription for 14 days, which costs $100. When I went to fill the script on Saturday, they only had 5, so they gave me those, charged $50, and told me to come back by Wednesday to get the rest. In the hospital, with skilled shot givers, I totally didn't mind it. At home, whether hubby or I do it, it hurts like a $&&@"%^! I have a BMI of 38 and am fairly active with 3 small children, so I don't think I have the same risk factors as someone with a higher BMI and is mostly sedentary. So, I'm tempted to not pick up the remaining prescription, because I will have already had a full week of blood thinners. I have a follow up on Friday. Do u think they will let me off the hook? Do they do lab work at the 1 week follow up so they can check my coagulation or whatever?

    Lovenox injections?

I have 9 more to go. Yes, very glad I don't have to do 2/day.

    My back is killing me!

Good to know. I will prop up again tonight, and I have the heating pad on my back.
  18. groovykg

    Lovenox injections?

But is it standard practice? Or does it just depend on patient? Maybe I can ask hubby to do them when I'm asleep.

    What ya eating tonight?

Dannon and Yoplait both now have low sugar Greek yogurt. The strawberry and vanilla flavors only have 7g sugar. Other flavors too, but I didn't look at those.

    Sorry im MIA

Don- I just sent u a friend request. I didn't see a way to send u an FB message to tell u who I'm from RNYTalk. Could I possibly join your group?
  21. Interesting that everyone keeps talking about left side pain. Mine is ENTIRELY from 1 incision on the right. I just have to hold it/apply pressure whenever I move. I'm back at my house now instead of my parents. It's a toss up... If I stay with them, they take such good care of me and ask if I need anything and if I feel ok, but they eat bags of chips on the couch right next to me and have donuts and candy bars on the kitchen counter, and openly debated for 30 minutes this morning about going to get Breakfast at McDonald's. And they are in a 1 bedroom apartment, so there's nowhere to really hide. At home, my husband is very busy with the children, so I have to be more self-reliant, but they aren't eating anything tempting around me and I can stay upstairs and bed and avoid chaos if I need to. And, he just left to go get pizza, so I need to make sure my bedroom door stays CLOSED. If pain is still bad on Monday morning, will call surgeon for another prescription. Can anyone tell me when they stopped needing pain medicine altogether?
  22. Yes, I am from northern va. Had surgery at Vhc in Arlington. I'm only allowed to take 15 ml or lortab every 4 hours. I can't really sy how much pain relief I get because it knocks me out for 3 hours. Then that third hour while I'm awake between the 4th when I finally get more medicine is just awful if I move, so I have to stay perfectly still. What is everyone else's dosage?
  23. I was just coming on here to lament the same thing. I wish I were stills the hospital. I can't get comfortable in bed, gas pain is horrible, pain med is NOT effective, and my parents (who I am staying with for the night) are eating potato chips and candy right in front of me.
  24. I'm being discharged today and going to my mom's house instead of home, so I need to pick up some things for me to eat. I'm allowed full liquids but I've only had broth and SF Popsicles in hospital. How is sf pudding at this point? Will it be too sweet? How about low sugar yogurts? I'm just afraid that dairy will hurt or something. The thought of canned cream soups sounds really gross right now.
