1. Hi and welcome to being banded. You have chosen an excellant age to have this done. You will still be young once all your excess weight is gone and you can enjoy a full and active life. Well done.

I was banded on 22nd March and doing well so far. I have found this site invaluable for information, support and encouragement. Hopefully you will too. Take care,

  2. I am 5'2" and 253lb, started at 277lb but not one person has mentioned goal weight to me. I should be about 126lb but that does seem a long long way off. I would be happy to be under 140lb because we measure weight in stones in the UK and that would make me under 10 stone. (140lb) It would be nice to see single digits. But that also means losing half my current weight which Im told is unusal with the band????

  3. Hi all you 24th guys. I had my op yesterday (22nd) and I feel fine

I have some mild gas pain and I am a bit sore but other than that I am fine. 100% better than I imagined. The bruising is coming out a bit but again nothing too scary. I will post a pic later.

You will all be fine and I cant wait to share your journey's. I hope that when you are laying there waiting to go down you know you are not alone and we are all there together. I know I felt I had my lap band family with me.

    Good luck guys

  4. Hi Ladies,

I am on day 9 of my liquid diet and have lost 9lb. I started weighing myself everyday which was ok until day 5 when I gained a pound??? WTH I can tell you feeling that hungry and putting on weight is no joke. I was crushed and even more grumpy than ever. But I made the decision to just weigh in every 4 days and not to worry too much and now I feel lots better.

One thing it did highlight for me was my emotional attachment with the scales and made me wonder how I would feel if I put on weight (even a little) once banded.

I band date is the 22nd so I will post the same day if I am awake :-)

Good luck, the time will go by quicker than you think x

  5. i see on the body beauiful the cost in 4k for the band what is it in paris/? i think the price in ireland is 10,000 euros... i have been researching all day and find more and more stuff on this. I rem asking my doc about it on the nhs years ago and he said i wasnt big enough ! size 24 is i think! and he gave me reducdil slimming tabs which got me down to a 18-20 but i lost no weight still fluttering around 18 stone..

iam going to get the band soon.... just need some help on doctor to use, where to go and prices:lol::thumbup:

Hi, Its not your weight or size for the NHS but more your BMI. They only really consider people with a BMI over 40.

I am being banded on the NHS on the 22nd of March.

Good luck in your search. The NHS is a long wait (I waited over 18 months ) But its worth it.

  6. Just wondering if anyone else is having surgery on the 24th of March?..... my pre-op liquid diet starts on the 10th.....14 days on liquids.......can't wait!!!

Hi Darkangel I am on day six of my liquid diet and although it is hellish it is getting a little easier. I cant tell you how much I miss food but it feels a bit like a right of passage. If I can survive this then everything else will be easy, right?

One tip is make sure you drink plenty of fluids. It will help with the headaches plus you will walk to the bathroom so much it will count as exercise

Good luck and stick with it x

  7. Hi long time no speak.

I finally have a date for my op! Its the 22nd of March. I have a pre op appointment on the 4th of March.

I am starting the pre op diet tomorrow (not looking forward to that) but I am hoping it will be easier to stick to as the alternative is that they wont do the surgery.

I cant believe its finally time to join you all. At last I will have a story of my own.

I am really surprised at what a lonely journey this is. I am really excited but no one else seems to feel the same way. I can talk to my partner about everything, he is my best friend but he doesnt get this at all. He is just worried about the op. My girlfriends nod in the right places but they dont realise what this means to me.

I hope once its all over and its working everyone will be more encouraging. But I have enough enthusiasim for them all.

I still havent found any other UK banders so the search is still on. If you are reading this and want to share your experience please contact me.

  8. Hi I am on the waiting list for the op in Romford, Essex.

From the first appointment at the hospital to now has been 18 months.

I was referred by my GP, I saw a medical doctor for over a year while he tried diets and visits to the dietician and then finally he referred me to the surgeon. Since I saw the surgeon I waited 6 weeks to see if my funding had been approved then I was on the list.

They tell me the op should be done within 18 weeks of getting funding so that works out to the middle of Feb 2010.

I am hoping something comes up sooner and I have an appointment with the dietician to start the low carb liver shrinking pre op diet on the 4th of Dec.

It seems like a long time but what is the alternative? It really has gone by quicker than I thought and I am really glad I stuck it out. I could not afford to have the op privately so there was no other choice for me.

Just persevere and take all the help and advice offered and dont get downhearted.

The first time went to the hospital they told me to stop eating biscuits and crisps!!! Seriously if it was that simple I would be thin by now. But I kept going back, never missing an appointment not matter how much I thought they were a waste of time, and here we are.

Good luck, you will get there in the end :)

  9. Hi, thank you for those words of encouragement Louise, that dose make me for one feel better about it all.

Bubbly please let us know how Wednesday goes and yes would be nice to support eachother.

    All the very best, Donna

    Hi Donna & Louise,

I am going for my first appointment with the surgeon on the 28th of August. I have been seeing the Medical Doctor for 18 months and he has just referred me. I am so nervous. :( I think from reading other people's posts I would be a good candidate but I cannot afford to have it done privately so I am worried that after all this they will reject me through a funding issue. I really dont know what to expect but would be very interested to hear how you both get on. Good luck to you both.

  10.

Tap, don't cry! Peanuts have lots of protein!! You could have binged on something far worse! Don't beat yourself up, just move forward!

Hugs!

Thanks Karen for giving such positive responses. It really helps to hear good things. You dont know how much I would love to come to the states.

The op privately here would cost at least £7000 so out of my price range.

But I will keep on trying. thanks again x

  11. You sound exactly like me! I am in the UK and really struggling to get a lap band. I have been refered to a consultant who's only advice so far is "eat carrot sticks" my dietician has said I need counselling for my behaviour issues. I totally agree. But again this is impossible to get on the NHS. I have been told I can only apply for a band once I have been on diet pills for a year but I dont want to take diet pills. I am at a loss as to what to do next.???????

  12. I have family in Chilliwack just outside Vancouver and also in Abbottsford.

You have done really well, the slower it comes off the better really as it should give you skin time to shrink.

I have been talking to a lady fromt he UK that had it done on the NHS and she said it can take between 9 months to a year so I'm not hopefull that it will be anytime soon.

Its really depressing but at least there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

    :)

  13. Hi Devana,

I am from Romford, Essex not too far from Colchester.

I have relatives who live in Canada, where are you from?

I have had a really great response from joining this site and I am feeling much more positive about the band. Have you had one and if yes how long?

  14. Hi my name is Fiona.

I am waiting for my first appointment after being referred by my GP for LapBanding. I have been told it is a long drawn out process to get banded on the NHS but I do not have the funds to have it done privately. I would have it done tomorrow if I could.

Anyway I have joined this site to see the ups and downs of banding. Hopefully to get inspired and to decide if banding is right for me.:nervous
