  1. hi all - surgery was Jan 21 and went home that Wed Jan 23! Wahoo!!! However... I'm back in the hospital. They discovered after about two days of being back home in major pain that I have a severe blood clot next to my liver and intestines. It's causing some major pain - really indescribable (sort of like appendicitis multiplied by 100). Anywho' date=' not sure how long I'll be in here. It's been since Sunday AM and no major news to report. Some of the pain meds are working, but I'm NPO other than when I take meds by mouth. They are thinking any stuff going down the intestines are causing problems because the blood isn't moving through quick enough thanks to the blood clot blockage. On blood thinners and hoping that'll help. They keep saying my body needs to heal - that the bypass surgery itself created the clot, but no real medicine or surgery will fix it :( booo... It's painful to say the least. Glad to be alive as my RNY surgeon said they're pretty dangerous, especially since it could kill off my intensities.

Others who experienced blood clots in the abdomen area after surgery? What did you do? Recovery time? Did it adversely impact your loss goals each week? Believe it or not I'm still thinking about weight loss at a time when I should probably be thinking about my overall health... just in that RNY mindset about goals, etc... Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.[/quote']

Oh my I'm so sry ur going through this : ( Def. put your mind in a positive state of healing! My thoughts are with you, keep us posted!

  2. I went back Monday, I was 2 wks post op (my Sx was 1/14) & I can't do it, I'm sweaty & feel like I could pass out! I was drinking H2o okay, just not getting the Protein in & still sore as all get out : / My scrubs were too new & rubbed on my incisions, etc, etc....It was perfectly wrong : ( Guess I will be riding the couch for a while longer. Glad your doing well...btw where do u get all that energy???

  3. Surgery was on Jan 14? Are any of you constantly nauseous? It doesn't go away' date=' they want me to get the Protein Shakes in and the 64oz of water... But im feeling so sick its hard to do any of this. will it eventually go away??[/quote']

Protein shakes make me nauseous & anything heavy. The only thing I can stomach so far is Jello, Herb Ox chicken broth & a small container of plain Greek yogurt & twice I had strained Wendy's chili....Everything else, not so good : /

  4. Long time lurker' date=' first time poster.

I had the RNY done on the 10th walking in with a bmi of 35. I did it mainly to help with my Diabetes which was diagnosed when I was 34 years old (6 years ago). This was done under the advise of many doctors and a few years of research.

So I am holding up alright. On a pureed diet until the 31st - then I go to soft meats.

Lost some weight already - about 35 lbs. But the biggest thing that is getting to me is my blood sugars are not lowering - they are always in the 200s.. I have been taken off all my diabetes meds and they put me on a sliding scale.

Anyone have any insight for me? Everyone has been telling me that the people who walk off the table diabetes free are the exception and that most people have to wait a bit until the smoke clears from the surgery.

    Anyone? Thoughts?[/quote']

Your body is still reacting to trauma, which will elevate your FBG level. Give it 8 wks & walk, walk , walk! Good luck!!

  5. I have no energy for life's demands now :-( If I went back right now I'd have to juggle-- (3) 12hr shifts' date=' my 3 kids, cooking, a husband and getting my son to baseball practice. I am not ready.[/quote']

If I were at the hospital I would be to, I have no lifting right now (Thank God as its all I can do to lift myself) I'm in an urgent care & last week they saw ~30 pts/day : / I go to the grocery store & I'm thru.....yea no bueno

  6. Throwing my scale out the window!! Feeling frustrated. I'm a prisoner to my scale. I literally get on it 7 times a day (I am a little OCD in real life) and its not moving. I think it's taunting me because I do get on it so often. I'm getting my fluids in. Struggling with the Protein. Eating soft foods. Still not getting in more than 500-600 calories a day. Can't exercise yet per drs orders. Had some minor complications during surgery dr is concerned about exerting myself. So not much I can do to make the scale move but I am succeeding in slowly driving myself and my bf insane. Could I be the only person that gastric doesn't work for? Ugh...

  7. K...I'm going to let you girls in on a little secret! I'm 10 days post-op and had 60g of Protein yesterday. Syntrax makes amazing' date=' heavenly Protein power in a double stuffed cookie flavor among others. It tastes like a really unhealthy fattening oreo milkshake!! It's amazing and has been a savior![/quote']

You rock!!! I'm day before you & not even tolerating 20 Gms daily : / I am getting my H2o though

  8. Almost 3 weeks post op and 30lbs down. My diet is weird though. It says liquid diet but says I can have mashed potatoes' date=' refried Beans, things like that. I've cheated. I ate a oz of chicken salad. It was shredded, but I had to have something that I could chew. I'm craving food. I'm not hungry just craving. Feelings are up and down at times. But so happy I did it. Still sore at times[/quote']

Have u tried gum?? 3 wk/30 lbs hats off to you Chica!!!

  9. I'm wondering I I'm the only one.... I am about four months into the six month pre-surgery weight loss education and I realized today how utterly sick I am of thinking about food. I'm not just talking because of the changes I am trying to make. I have just had an epiphany that I am totally sick of food being something I spend so much time thinking about' date=' preparing for and devouring. I don't know, maybe I'm the only one but I'm over food being so important in my life.[/quote']

Girl please, ur so not alone!!! I was there pre op too... Now 13 days out I'm cooking for the family & I could care less about eating!! Grocery shopping doesn't bother me either : ) We have been to the mall & through the food court & still no interest : ) Your definitely not alone!!!
