Welcome Nancy. I go for the final doctor visit tomorrow morning to review the pre-op test results. Then they will schedule me for an all day nutrition class then the surgery. Thank you for sharing. I will be following right behind you!

Hopefully my surgery will be mid to late January. I have started trying the Protein powders to get an idea what they taste like and if they mix up well. Yogurt is one of my favorite Snacks so I have switched to Greek yogurt. Just gradually making some changes now so it won't be so strange right after surgery.

Just had to say - had to go to the urgent care today (It's a Saturday, and I couldn't wait until Monday for my primary doc) to get antibiotics for a massive sinus infection.
It was kind of fun to explain, when the doctor was asking me about medications and pills, that I can no longer take "horse pills" due to the surgery. He laughed, and said "Well, that's fine. This comes in liquid, so we'll set you up with that. It'll be a rather larger dose, but it shouldn't give you problems."
So, I now have 2 entire bottles of antibiotics in my fridge, and a little dosage syringe on the counter. I feel like I'm 5 again! Except the pharmacy never asked if I wanted one of those cool new flavors =P
Hope you feel better soon!

Has anyone had the experience of someone asking this ignorant question: So, did you lose your weight the hard way or by surgery?
I was soooooooo angry. There's no easy thing about surgery. I wanted to say to this person: Yeah, I took the easy way by getting cut open, the insides cut and rearranged, sewed up and then reintroduce food only to throw it up because my stomach wasn't ready for solid foods.........
How did you deal with people and their stupid question?
I think your thoughts are accurate. I plan on saying something similar when I get to that point.

Insurance approved surgery for Jan 15 but that might not be the exact date. Monday 12/17 is my "test day." Then I meet with the doctor to review the results on 12/27. If everything is ok, I find out the exact date that day. Excited about losing weight and resolving health issues but apprehensive about surgery. I haven't been hospitalized since 1992 when my son was born. It will be a relief to have the surgery over and concentrate on my NEW life!

Won't be having surgery until mid January but the counselor told me I would feel 9 months pregnant after surgery. Guess she knows what she's talking about! It will be worth it

Hello everyone! 51 year old here but I don't feel that seasoned! My initial consultation with the surgeon was Nov 12, 2012. PCP had sent all information before the appointment. Insurance approved Nov 29. Now waiting for surgeons office to schedule all the lovely tests. Anticipating surgery mid Jan. Looking forward to losing my extra body and hopefully improving insulin resistance, blood pressure and cholesterol. Thank you everyone for sharing. It really helps us newbies!
