  1. Thanks for posting the article. I've been worried sick about losing hair after surgery. I did a big chop 3 years ago and now my hair is shoulder length. I wear a head covering but my husband likes long hair so I'd hate to lose it. Have you taken Biotin or supplements to help with growth?

I take all my Vitamins, but no biotin... It gives me the feeling of being hungry and I eat up everything. Well I nibble on everything. LOL

  2. They lose slower because their body has already adapted to a weight loss surgery.

We only have an open window of 12 to 18 months to lose weight before our bodies naturally adapt to the surgery. During this period we only take in a portion of our calories that are ate and also after surgery our metabolism is reset and a few genes are altered.

It takes about 12 to 18 months for our bodies to figure out how to adapt back to the old us. It will never adapt all the way... Like taking in nutrients properly .. taking Vitamins will be a forever task.

With revisions.. the body has already been fooled so its really only working on losing weight on the small portions you take in. Some folks get lucky and can fool their body twice.

  4. Just feel a little stuck! I think I need to go back to my dietitian for some guidance. I think I am eating correctly. But maybe I'm not. Maybe she can get me back to losing.

I've been stalled for an entire month. It's a little bitter sweet tho. I'm 4 months post op and 14 lbs to my goal weight. Id like go do what I can go stretch these 14 lbs out for the next 8 months, BUT!!!!... I sure feel jipt out of my surgery with stalling out so early in the game.

    Bitter/Sweet!

  5. @Leticia why your hair is shedding? Is this common' date=' what causes it? I am scheduled to have my surgery August 9, 2013

    [/quote']

When you go into surgery your body will go into shock and will take about 3 months for a natural repair mode to kick in. This also happens because your hormones are all over the place. The more you lose weight and the fat goes away it allows for more of your hormones to surface. You can have dry skin, hair shedding and other things. Not sure if you ever had kids but this also happens after deliver. When your hormones start to rapidly reduce you'll experience this. I've heard the hair shedding is from the anesthetics giving at surgery.. not sure.

Also if you're not on top of your Vitamins and protein... It can happen. I take mine and I'm over my Protein so I know his isn't why.

Some say biotine vitamins work and some say bariatric patients aren't able to obsorbe biotine.

Some patients may not even notice this repair mode their body is in. You might be one of the lucky ones.

I think the benifits of losing lbs out weighs my hair shedding.

Oh ps.... This repair mode can last from 1 to 18 months.

    Don't sweet the small stuff!

I've lost 92.8 lbs. Went from a 22 and now I'm in a 9. I had lost 40 before surgery and the rest since March 2013 (surgery date)

  7. You're a talented hair stylist. I cut my own bangs once and looked like a cabbage patch doll. You look awesome.

Thanks girl.... When I was 18 I went to beauty school and got my license (which is expired). Shortly after I received it I went to school to be an accountant. More money! LOL

Over the year I've had 4 kids (Ill be 40 this year). Im always doing hair. Shaving my son up like usher, braiding my baby and middle daughters hair. Cutting, weaving, dying my oldest and I try to keep my hair

Fried, died and laid to the side... LOL

    :-)

  10. Girl u look good!! If u are having alot if problems with your hair' date=' you can try taking Biotin but in my opinion you don't need it u look great! ;)[/quote']

I'm gonna start taking it again tonight. I did before surgery and then I started up 2 weeks after surgery and the Biotin made me feel like I was hungry and my eating increased so I stopped.

    ~Leticia **HW: 259**PreOp: 216**SURG: 3/21/13 **Discharged @: 221** 3 mons post op. CW: 165.0 lbs. --- Only 15 lbs to my goal ---

  11. Are you being really careful about your Protein and Vitamins? My hair stopped shedding within a month when I was really diligent on both. Love the haircut' date=' however.[/quote']

Oh yeah I'm totally on my Protein. I always get like 85 grams and plus in a day and always take my vitamins.. but Ice always been a Vitamin freak.

    ~Leticia **HW: 259**PreOp: 216**SURG: 3/21/13 **Discharged @: 221** 3 mons post op. CW: 165.0 lbs. --- Only 15 lbs to my goal ---

  12. Love love love the new do!!! I'm thinking if/once my hair starts thinning I'll get some extensions. Hopefully I can make it through summer without having to get them tho. It's too dang hot. Plus it would be nice to have super long hair in the fall. I'll buy some cute hats to wear too.

I'm so in love with long hair too. I had been growing my hair out for 5 years and he back was almost waist length. I had started using clip ins for a little more fullness but because the hair roots get weak after surgery the clips were causing it to.shed more.. and the pony tails and messy Buns were pulling too. Once the shedding slows down ill buy someone clips for a varity of looks.

But I will say... Id rather be skinny than have super long hair. My cute bob looks good with my new body.

  13. Are you taking Biotin? I have very thin hair and was soooo worried about losing hair' date=' I do not miss a day of taking my Biotin. I am 15 months post op and have not lost any hair !!! I am very lucky !![/quote']

I use to take iy before my surgery (still have some). Never really started after surgery. Well no I did take it a few times and it made me feel like I was hungry so I stopped. I seem to be eating way more when I took it and it made me nervous.

I think I'll start up tonight. My many do you take? My nails are splitting so I can definitely use some.

Oh Em Gee... I love how you put it. I have 4kids too 21 down to 2years old. I've felt like all I've been doing be last 21 years is giving birth, nursing and being a house wife getting fat.

I'm so excited about my new body. I haven't weighed 165 lbs since elementary. I have about 10 lbs to be able to get into my 21 year olds size 7s. Me and my 10 year old share clothes... She's in a 10 (a little chuncky like her mommy was)

If you use it on your phone. As as soon as you open it ... Click "daily" next to summary. It'll give you a tally on everything you've ate for the day.

    Calories

    Carbs

    Fat

    Sugar

    Vitamin intake

    And much much more.

  16. Trust me when I say that your body will MAKE YOU fight to be in One-derland.

Try eating super high calories in one day. As .many as you can..this tends trick.your body into thinking its nolonger I starvation and you should see a decline in weight the following day.

Also... Try and cut out any breads, Pasta, rice and sugar until you break the stall.

Also... Enter your food into an app like MyFitnessPal. Maybe your carbs are too high.

    Just a few suggestions.

  17. Everyone is right... Walk walk walk! I even walked or should I say paced back and forward in my room.

Fyi... I would wait to try that Soup again in a few weeks or months. Sometimes really Water foods are hard to eat or even digest. I personally think its like eating food.and drinking together.

  18. You will do fine... I was giving a relax pill during my prep which help a lot with my nerves. Then they wrapped me up on this hot air blanket that was comfy.

When I got outside of the surgery room I was greeted by my surgery nurse, anesthesia Dr and Surgeon. After a meet and greet some of my anesthetics was injected into my IV which knocked me the heck out. My Surgeon doesn't like for his patients to see the surgery room.. and I was cool with that. I tend to panic from medical stuff.

After surgery I woke up groagy but I appreciated that cause of the pain. It wasn't too bad but it wasn't too good. The nurses will wake you up and walk you the same day as your surgery. If you are a little or a lotta sleepy after... Take advantage of it. Trust me after little that moriphine button ever 15 to 30 minutes... You'll be back off to sleepy la la land anyways. You'll do fine!
