  1. Hello Folks,

I have not been back in a while because I did not want to be a downer to the other people in this forum. I had Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery on January 31st, 2013. In one year I lost..... Are you ready ..... 50lbs.... yep you read that right a measley 50lbs. I struggled every day in order to lose just that small amount. I went from 286lbs to 238lbs. I am now back up to 256lbs. Disappointment does not even begin to cover how I feel. Nothing makes me sick, I have very little restriction and I try really hard to follow the diet that goes with this just so I can maintian my loss and gain nothing more back but it creeps right back on. My surgeon was released from the practice. I have not seen him since the day he did my surgery. I am not sure what to do anymore. I got so frustrated with my surgeons office that I just quit wasting my time and money going to see them. I am now considering going to another practice and see if they will help me. My blood pressure is back up and I am back on meds. It has been a horrible year for me. Has anyone else had this happen? It is my understanding that there is 1% to 5% off gastric bypass patient this happens too. So what do we do now?

  2. Am I the only one who has lost less that 40lbs in 5 months?? I am so discouraged that it is just ridiculous. I had my surgery on Jan 30 2013. Day of surgery I weighed 286 today I weigh 250. I am sooo done. My doctor does not see a problem. Yet I have not found anyone anywhere who has had this procedure and lost so little intially. Please someone tell me that there is someone else out there like me.

  3. I did the exact same things at 2 weeks. I stalled for 5 weeks. I was so frustrated and ready to scream. I had only lost 16lbs. I have now lost 12lbs in the last 2weeks. So now I am down 28lbs from my surgery weight. Just be patient and keep doing what you are suppose too. Eventually You will start losing again. Good Luck.

  4. I'm sorry for the health problems you are still having. Also, for the lack of weight loss. Did you see your nutritionist? If you're unhappy w your surgeon, is there a way you can switch to another one that is willing to listen and help? I really don't know how that works but there has to be a remedy. Your insurance shouldn't continue to pay for office visits when there is no outcome or plan of relief from the health issues you're having. Those ideas other than speaking to your Nut is all I can think about to offer any helpful advice.

I honestly have no idea. I will see the nutritionist this thursday. I know i may sound like a negative Nelly but the Nutrionist at this office are all fresh out of school. Not a single one of them is more than 22 yrs old. They all contradict each other. It drives me nuts. You can never get the same answer twice. The last one i saw said i could move up to soft foods I said ok. I ask for a few examples of soft food she said other than eggs she really wasn't sure. :/. The doctor told me I could move on to regular food now. I have no clue what i can and cant eat., I really hate that I have done this now.

  5. I just got back from a visit to my doctors office. My blood pressure is up and I am up to 268. The surgeon said that was fine that i was doing good. WTF ever. I felt that the doctor did not even listen to me or my concerns. He doesn't not a give a crap if I have lost weight he only wanted to get through the appt and be done. I really chose the wrong group with this bunch. I have not seen my surgeon since the day he did my surgery. I have seen the 2 other surgeons in the office and they don't have clue about me or what I have had done. I am so upset I just don't even know what to do at this point. I tried to explain that I have not lost a single ounce or inch since week 2. I am now 6 weeks out. But he said I have lost 16lbs. yep I weighed 284 the week before surgery. I am only down 16 f*%$^ pounds since surgery. really???? He feels that is just great. But we all know that it is not. I should have known this was too good to be true. I am so done.

  6. This is my 4th friday weigh in at 265. I am so frustrated. I went out of town this week. I walked my legs off people every day this week. I did not lose a single ounce and my clothes are still fitting the same. I am going to talk to my doctor today. I have been upping my exercise and watching what i eat. Getting in Protein and Water and taking all of my Vitamins. I am so over this. I never thought I would say this but this is beginning to look like a waste. I have hit the 21lb mark and that is it. I had so hoped this time would be different. :(

  7. I had my surgery on Jan 30th. Lost 20lbs in the first 2 weeks I was home from the hospital. I have not lost an ounce since. :( I have been sitting at 265 for 3 weeks. I did manage to go to down to 263 one day and then It was back up. I have not been losing in inches either. I am frustrated to say the least. I go back to the Doctor on Friday March 13th. I am hoping the nutritionist will have some answers. I am gonna be really upset if i have went through all of this just to lose 20lbs. :(

  8. Feeling alot better now, it was rough at first I was in a lot of pain for the first few weeks. I did end up going back to my surgeon, he explain that I was having muscle spasms and prescribe a muscle relaxer and gave me a binder and it's working. So far I've lost 27lbs and I did go with the RNY. I agree with you this was one of the best decision I've made!!!

I bought a belly binder a few days out and it really did make all the difference for me. I am now pain free, thank goodness. I have not lost that much weight but I am hopeful that I will keep on a steady track of weight loss. Good luck and we should touch base again and see where we are at.

  9. I have BCBS as well. My claim was submitted on 11-30-12 as well. I still have not heard back from them . Praying I get approved soon.

I had my surgery on Jan 30th. So it was 4 months from first appt to surgery date. I am happy with my results . :)

  10. I am down 15 lbs from the day I returned home from hospital- starting weight 260, today's weight 245. It gas gone slower this second week then the first- i am going to hit the treadmill a little harder!

My new stomach is not bothered by anything and I am a little scared about that! I mean, the first couple of days I would eat maybe a nibble of Jello and feel extremely full, but by day 4 and still now I really never feel full- HOWEVER I do listen to my body and stop myself at the portion that I feel is appropriate but this is scary to me! For example I can eat 4 oz of jello of Greek yogurt, 2 oz of malt o meal, 4-6 oz of Tomato Soup with out problems at all, getting in all liquid is never a problem, I drink 6oz of Protein Shakes without issues- is this normal! I was expecting bites and nibbles only and that is not the case!

I am not sure if this experience will change once I am able to eat thicker texture but I am nervous as I want to utilize this tool to the fullest!

I had my surgery on 1/30/13. Lots of pain but I am one week post op and feel like a champ now. I have not had any nausea. My stomach seems to be happy with everything. I was being very careful but I can eat 4 o.z of pudding or jello or Soup in a few minutes with no problems. I never feel over full. I am never truly hungry either. So I am just making sure that I set my timer to eat every 2 hours until I go on mushy foods then it goes to 4 to 5 hours. so I don't forget to eat and just eat my little bit of food and go on. I have been walking around the stores and stuff . I feel pretty good. I am a bit exhausted from insomnia.

  11. I had RNY on Weds. I have had no nausea since coming home. No real problem eating what I am suppose too. But I am having miserable pain in my left side. Makes it really hard to walk. It is low in my pelvis. like just about my hip bone. Any suggestions.? I am really hurting. I need to be up and walking . HELP

  12. I too was told that the heaviest instruments are used on the left side and that they have to go through muscle on the left side as well. I am still very tender there, especially when getting up and down out of a chair or our bed. It burns more than anything else right now but I am sure that it will be better within a few more days. I am only four days post-op right now.

I am also tender in this area. I finally feel human again today. I am home and finally got a shower. I sitting up and feeling pretty good. pushing getting my fluids in and eating 2oz every 2 hours until I can get everything in. I am getting a bit tired now but I expect that as my body is recovering. It is so cold here. I can hardly wait until I can go outside and walk. I think that will help me a whole lot. :)

  13. Hi All,

Had my surgery Wednesday. I am good. No Nausea. Yaaay. but I am super sore and I am finally home. I am tired after riding home. I had Water, creamy Soup and plain yogurt at the hospital.I did well. I am drinking water now. Sip sip sip.. I will try to walk around the house in a bit. . I will check back in awhile. Easing on to the losers bench. :)

  14. I am less than 24 hours away from my RNY and to be honest I don't know whether I'm scared or not. The biggest part of me is just ready to get the ball rolling and have that part over with. The other part of me is wondering what happens to my family if for some unknown reason that I don't make it out of surgery. Is anyone else or was anyone else worried about this as well? We all know that there is a risk, but I pray that the benefits far outweigh the risks for me. I have to be at the hospital at 5:30am for my 7:30am surgery which means the hubby and I have to be on the road by 4:00am. Ugh! At least I will have more time to recover which means I will work my butt off to come home on Wednesday.

My prayers are with you all, as always, but especially my fellow surgery buddies that will be going in tomorrow. I will try to keep you guys updated the best I can.

OMG Are you in my Head??? I have been thinking this exact same thing. I know that it is unlikely to happen but what if it does? I am scheduled for Wednesday at 7:30 a.m . I am excited and scared.I am worried about complications and how I am going to feel after the surgery. My prayers are with you . We are going to be fine and we need to think positive about this.

  15. Have you had h. Pylori and been treated in the past? If so then the blood work is useless, the antibodies against h. Pylori will always be there (in most people anyway). The only way o test for an active infection in someone who has had it in the past is either biopsy or an h. Pylori breath test. Hope this helps!!!

Thanks. As far as I know I have never had it. This is the first time I have ever been tested for it.But biopsy was negative for it . The nurse said my blood level was 7.2 which is really high. She they start treating if your blood level is 0.83. She was going to call him and find out. that was last friday and I did not hear anything so I am assuming everything is good.

    HW 312, pre-op (lap-band) 294, pre-op (RNY) 251, surgery date 2/11/13, goal weight 154, current weight 251

  16. I had a weird thing happen. When I went in last friday the 18th to see the nurse for my assessment at the hospital where I am getting my surgery done , The nurse told me my blood work tested positive for H Pylori. She asked if the doctor was treating me for it. I told her No. He actually told me I was negative for H Pylori. He did a biopsy in my stomach for it when he did the EGD. So I have no clue what that is about. Anybody ever have that happen?

  17. My surgery is in 12 hours. In 12 hours I am becoming a loser! In 12 hours my life will no longer be as I know it. In 12 hours Im going to get some good drugs. In 12 hours wow I am really having surgery. It is here it felt like tomorrow would never come, and now it is only 12 hours away. Just letting it sink in, now if I could just stop going to the bathroom, I could fully enjoy this moment : )

Congrats. Sending good thoughts your way that it will be an easy and painless process. Good luck!!!!

  18. My diet wasn't so bad all liquids with a small lean cuisine under 1000 cal. I just kept going with it but I can understand how frustrating it is. Honestly while I had the flu I had to force myself to drink the small amounts I got down. I felt horrible. I will be praying for you to heal quickly. I am sorry you are sick.

I would be happy if I got a lean cuisine meal. I am on the opti fast. I can have 4 shakes, 1 Protein Bar and a Soup . And the soup is a powder you add to Water. I am so hungry right now and I have only lost 6lbs. I can hardly wait to have this surgery so I don't feel so hungry. I was only given my 2 weeks worth. I had to pay $300.00 out of pocket for it. I don't have another 300.00 to put out either for this. UGH!

  19. I totally understand. Two days before my surgery I got the flu and I was deathly ill. I was so upset at first but looking back I'm glad I put it off two weeks so I could be at my best for surgery. Take Vitamin C and drink plenty of fluids. If you think you may be getting the flu get in Tamiflu ASAP. Call your doctor. When I thought mine was just a cold they said I could take Claritin. Good luck and know that no matter what happens God is in control and He has a reason for everything.

I probably wouldn't mind so much if I was not doing this 2 week liquid diet that the surgeon require before surgery. I am on day 8. I would hate to have to do this again. Did you have to do it again before surgery. I am just a basket case thinking that I would have to starve for 2 more weeks. I am just so upset. This can not be happening to me. :(
