Happy homecoming, hippie gal! Your first few days will seem overwhelming as you try to adapt to this new phase in your life, but it should soon fall into place. Stay hydrated (sip), walk, and rest! Congrats on going home!

    Protein post op

Yep, my goal is 60-80 but I gain extra because I use 3 scoops in 20 oz of skim milk =xtra protein and each scoop has 26 grams a scoop (78 grams in 3 scoops) I drink it for my breakfast and mid-morning snack and eat my two other meals. Take my calcium in the morning since I am already drinking the milk. Take other vitamins with lunch and dinner.I would be lost if I developed lactose intolerance. Protein intake would be severely limited.

    hypoglycemic episode

Thanks, I definitely will remember that for the next time. I keep mostly sugar-free around the house but I buy the grandsons some boxed fruit juices that I'll grab for the next time. Hopefully, continued hypoglycemic episodes won't become an issue because that isn't a good sign either. We had been out doing a lot of walking and although I had fluids with me, I didn't think about food.....not too smart!

    Feeling lonely

It's really hard because of ongoing issues with all that is involved from Vitamins, Protein Fluid intake, exercising, and I realize that the only ones who really get it are the people on this forum! We are proud of all that anyone accomplishes and sadden when others aren't doing well. Others view those conversations as "bragging" or "I told you so!" (Negative about the surgery--especially if there are problems) WE "Get it".....LOL
  7. Everyone's personal norms seem to be different. You are an exception being able to drink so much! I wasn't able to drink much more than sips for a few weeks.

That's gotta be awful. Yeah, I hate it when your doctor isn't available. Holiday time makes it even tougher to get anything done or be in touch with the right people. Hope you get it all resolved soon, hang in there, I'll be here for you!

Reading the posts and I was gonna mention an electric throw because I have had one for years and enjoy the warmth even more now that I had surgery. I guarantee your "lap pets" will love them, too.

Sorry to hear you had recuperation problems but glad you are back on the road to recovery. I know I felt overwhelmed trying to get in all of my requirements but I still stress fluids and required meds over anything else. So easy to get dehydrated. Take baby steps, it will all fall into place. Promise!
  15. I've also told people I did it because I needed to be healthy (see below), and the weight loss is an unfortunate side effect to the surgery. Get lots of puzzled looks on that one. Diabetes has sadly taken all of the members of my maternal side. I refuse to be part of the same statistics, having been diagnosed with diabetes and metabolic syndrome, over 5 years ago. Many were aware of the problems I was having with my health. I always thought I wasn't a candidate so I didn't inquire until I saw an episode on Dr. Oz and from there my journey began...... I am now only on thyroid medication....4 weeks out, life is good and my mission was accomplished. Now I have to put up with this awful side effect called "losing weight." Smiling big!
  16. Well I guess it technically could get stuck if not chewed thoroughly, especially if you are half-knocked out...... Take it easy, worry about your fluids and protein, first.

Oh no, Lisa! Praying for you! Hope this is just a bump in the road and you will be home soon. Take care of yourself and keep us informed. Good Luck to the rest of The December Group, those who just recently had their surgeries and the rest who are waiting. Hope we hear from Southern soon. Think of you all constantly and I'm wishing everyone continued weight loss success and better health.

    Feeling lonely

Well, I have found most of my support to come from this forum. I think a lot of my friends were just worried about how the surgery was and how well I recovered from that. No one seems to understand the true extent of what we have gone through better than others who have been through it themselves. My fears, expectations, pains, moods, etc....have been shared with many and everyone helps me realize that it is all within a norm or advise me that help might be needed. WE ARE HERE FOR YOU!

    Day 10 Post-Op

Wish I could offer advice, but be thankful you are almost ready to begin the next phase. So glad you are doing well. Chewing will be your main goal for the rest of your life. I marvel at how little I actually did chew my food because now that's all I do. Keep us updated on your progress!

Yes, I did find out why that side is so sore. It is the biggest port that is used for the cutter/stapler and most of the "work" is done in that area. Sometimes a hard ridge will form during the healing but he assured me that it would flatten out. Never thought it would feel better but now, thankfully, it does. Still getting use to my new "norm" and trying to get used to this whole new way of eating. There are times I start serving myself a meal on my plate and heap out my "old" serving. My new pouch says "Whaddya, nuts?" Seriously, have caught myself serving up a pre-surgery "normal" serving and then I just start laughing at myself. I'm telling ya, I have too remind myself that I DID have the bypass because other than my eyes definitely being bigger than my pouch, my only daily reminders are protein, fluids and vitamins. The old way I served myself is just out of habit, because I don't even want that amount of food nor feel hungry enough to eat it......yikes, those old habits ARE hard to break.

Sorry to hear some of our Dec. group has had difficulties, and glad to hear others are on the mend. I've been doing well. Surgery was the 4th and I am finally feeling like "What surgery?" I have to remind myself to eat slowly and chew......because you do reach a point where you forget. I get all of my protein and vitamins in but still lack enough fluids needed. I am lucky to average about 40-50 ooz of total fluid daily. Weight loss has been steady but has slowed (not stalled). I am also able to eat a little more at meals so I expected that to happen. Pain under left ribcage is finally gone and finally feel like I am getting my stamina back. Amazing that I never really feel hungry. Often times, I am reminding myself to eat. That starvation mode can be a real deterrent to losing weight because your body will hold onto calories so it doesn't "starve" which makes it harder to lose. So make sure you nurish often even if it is very little. Remember you need calories to burn calories.
