I start Soft food tomorrow
mrsblues replied to tink65's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
One of my first soft meals was homemade (nonspicy) chili pureed in a blender---yum! Could just buy Wendy's Chili and puree that, too if you don't want a lot leftover. My family ate with me (of course, not pureed) but I did freeze some of the pureed for me to eat at other times. I did the same thing with my family (soup days) a few other times but just made sure I pureed my soup. -

Simply, you have been through so much! We have all been worried about you. While I am glad to hear you are doing better, have they found out any reasons why you are having problems drinking fluids? I hope you are finally on the road to recovery and can start putting the worst behind you.. I'm sure it's been a very trying time for your family, as well! Hugs! -

Let your doctor know, it isn't normal to have diarrhea for that many days. My pouch gurgles a lot too! More noises than I ever experienced before...like an orchestra and I am the conductor! -
Congrats on yoour weight loss. Remember there are all different ways to get our protein in. There are many posts on this site dedicated to that subject. Do some research, because unfortunately, that is a lifetime requirement for us and you can lose lean muscle if the body needs to break that down to get the energy it needs. The more protein you take in the less it will break down your own muscle. That's why exercising and protein requirements are a must. Oh yeah, and lets not forget those vitamins and fluids. There are also recipes to make your protein shakes a lot more interesting to drink, too. Requires effort on your part to look through this forum. I have also searched the web for the very same answers and have found great websites that offer recipes. Pinterest is another good source and I searched by "bariatric recipes" and "protein shakes." Hope this helps! Don't feel bad though, it often takes time to build up to the amount of fluids and protein you need. I am at the right amount of protein but lack in overall fluids! Don't get discouraged, you are doing a great job!

You look fantastic! Contemplate your choices about plastic surgery carefully and get all the information you can. You should celebrate your weight loss and be proud. Congrats!

You are just two weeks out and still healing, so care must be taken when exercising. Walking is the best right now but you can also do some strength training and resistance. I would definitely check with your doctor before beginning any program. They'll advise you on what exercises would be suitable for your recovery. Best wishes for a healthy New Year!

Headache, skin crawling? Did you stay hydrated and get your protein/vitamins in? If so, sounds like either nerves or anxiety kicked in. Hopefully, you were able to come home and relax. The first couple days back to work were a little overwhelming for me. I came home and used the evenings for me to rest and and regroup for the following day. You are still recovering, back to work does not mean "all better now...." We are on a journey for life now! Thinking of you! -
Can some answer a question for me
mrsblues replied to honeydue29's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sometimes feeling that way can also have to do with the amount of overall fluids and protein you are getting. Symptoms could've just coincided with eating the popsicle. Getting something stuck is having excruciating pain in the chest/sternum region sometimes helped by throwing up (usually by not chewing properly). Dumping feels more like a stomach virus, cramping, uncomfortable, diarrhea, sweats, etc.... Just as in a stomach virus the food just "runs" right through you. You might experience things slightly different but once you have both yo won't forget. It's definitely the reminders that we need sometimes to slow down and eat properly. -

Thanks! It was fun AND informative! -
Hi, and welcome to the loser's bench! So many reasons for you not to be losing much. You were given a lot of fluids in the hospital which your body doesn't give up easily. Yes, sometimes your body will go into starvation mode and hold on to calories so it doesn't feel starved, if you don't nourish it enough. It could take a while in order to get all of the fluids and protein in. Don't forget about those vitamins! SIP, SIP, SIP......

Hi, I'm new.

Welcome everyone! The support you find on this site will be so useful. It prevented me from calling the doctor's office with what I'm sure they consider "mundane questions." You will find people in all different phases of recovery which will help you to know what to "expect." We have some who have had more than a hiccup in their recovery and our thoughts and prayers go out to them. The information isn't meant to scare you---just to inform. Remember we are just a small smattering of the overall surgery patients that are out there. Overall you will find that many do quite well, and when they don't they can rely on us for the support. This journey has so much to offer! -

I had an exciting day! I finally got to meet one of our own (RNY talk) at the dr's office today during our nutrition class. She messaged me awhile ago and we actually had surgery the same day at the same hospital, too! It felt amazing! We visited afterward and had so much to talk about. It was especially nice to be able to talk to someone openly about this whole journey and what you experience whether it be good or bad. So cool! -
Surgery Dec 17 still in the hospital nightmare!

Thinking about you, and hoping recovery is coming along. Take those small baby steps, and revel in each thing that becomes a little better or easier. The big picture can be overwhelming! Take care and keep us updated! -
www.bariatricfoodie.com and www.bariatriccookery.com more good food sites....Hey Lisa.. following your board on Pinterest, thanks!

Yep, love the whey protein from Walmart...cheapest I found, too! I love the shakes (I know weird) but it's like drinking chocolate milk and I "almost" feel guilty drinking them. I use the chocolate and add the decaff coffee for more of an iced mocha. I freeze it slightly to get it well-chilled with tiny bits of ice (doesn't take long). I make 20 oz. using 3 scoops (78 grams without the milk count) so I think I will use your suggestion and drink smaller amounts during the day. I am not eating as much protein at mealtimes yet so relying on the liquid form so body doesn't use up my muscle in an attempt to gain energy. Thanks!

Hey Gen...I downloaded the app but haven't been good about keeping track of anything. Need to look at it a little more, maybe in the next few days...... Cindee -
The weight loss is an average of 1-2 lbs. a day but again that is not always the norm, there are so many factors that play into it. Just like the "watched pot never boils." I think that holds true for weight loss (whether through surgery or not) and seems to only revolve around what the scale tells us Measurements will change, clothes will feel different, movement will change, shoes become bigger, there is so much more to notice, enjoy it all! We all want to see the weight come off but you have also done an amazing thing to your health, too.....celebrate!

I wasn't aware of the absorption of the protein, but I think it's something we should be aware of. Maybe I will take that same shake and drink it all throughout the day. Too many vitamins taken at the same time also results in expensive urine, so all of this is truly a balancing act. Thanks for the info!
-
I guess my thought would be that if everything stayed down you are good to go. Just get back on track, one mistake won't derail you! You've done fantastic so far, be proud! Happy New Year!
-
You also have to remember that all of your fluids will pass right through. Even though you are on soft foods, try to only eat the recommended portion size 1/4 - 1/2 cup. Eat slower, the foods will also pass quickly. Don't drink when you eat and drink your water in-between. While I think it's great that you are able to nourish and stay hydrated, I hope you realize that your limitations must also come from within. I was always told this is a tool. There is still some work that has to be done on our part. Continued success in your journey. You are still early out from surgery, so take it easy! Don't forget those vitamins!

Am I'm consuming too much?
mrsblues replied to CP3482's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You will hold some fluids because of the surgery IV's. You body is truly amazing and will go into survival mode if it feels as if you are "starving" it. There are so many things that can play into your lack of weight loss but it won't be permanent. I would also recommend you not weigh often. Stick to the "program" you will lose! Congrats!
