Feeling Guilty :-(
mrsblues replied to Simplysouthern26's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are giving your gift early to your boys and husband this Christmas by getting the surgery done, getting healthy and being able to do so much more for them and with them. How exciting is that! It's a gift that will keep on giving! -
? About Psych Eval For Gastric Bypass
mrsblues replied to Ab1986's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Asked me the reason for having surgery. How would I react to negative comments about my weight loss, (some people may not like me losing a lot of weight) asked about my marriage, spouses opinion of surgery, if I had support from my family. Would I have help following the surgery, did I suffer from depression, was I committed to the lifestyle change, etc...... -
Diabetics On Liquid Diet?
mrsblues replied to fireandice36's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm also a diabetic but taking oral medications and injections if necessary. So far I haven't needed any shots for a while. We were told today at our class to test 4 times a day while preop diet is followed and if it stays too low to contact our PCP. We'll see what happens..........I hope you can get yours figured out. Would sure hate to see you postponed once again. Stay positive, this to shall pass! -
Hang in there Mandy! The time will go quicker than you think, especially with the holidays approaching. Keep us posted and give us a new date when you receive one. Stay positive!

Anyone Else On Liquid Diet For Thanksgiving?
mrsblues replied to hajones5891's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Had my "education" class today. Surgery is Dec. 4th, so two weeks of presurgery diet. 2 protein shakes a day w/Jello, broth, sf popcicles for breakthrough hunger. I also can choose 4oz of protein and 1/2 c. of veggies for a meal. Not as bad as I thought. Still get turkey and veggies on Thanksgiving but not all the trimmings----- hard part is we are entertaining all weekend! What was I thinking? I think I can, I think I can, I hope I can, I know I can--LOL -
I am also 53 and my surgery date is December 4th of 2012! Having RNY because of diabetes. I meet with the doctor tmrw to sign consents and then get my labs done. I am really looking to the health benefits this surgery offers.

I finished all of my tests over the summer. Tuesday I go to the "education" (dietician) class, on Wednesday I sign consent, see Dr. (last visit) and get my pre-op labs. Picked up some starter supplies (protein, broth, jello etc....) Looking forward to starting my new life, too! Seems surreal!

I am a teaching assistant in grades 2-5, so I'm running constantly. I am having my surgery on December 4th and just tied it in to the Christmas break, so I will not have to resume school until the 7th of January. I'm happy I was able to do this and decided not to worry at all and concentrate on my recovery. Although, I have a significant amount of time off I will only be missing a little more than two weeks of work. I started this process hoping to have the surgery in the summer. Unfortunately, I had insurance hurdles which caused the delay. Fortunately it helps because I met out-of-pocket and deductibles. I have been through multiple surgeries. Each of them with their own set of circumstances and healing. My biggest problem is handling pain meds. If I take them as prescribed I can't seem to function at all and sleep a majority of the time. On the other hand, once I feel pain I'm miserable until the medication kicks in. It's hard to find the dose that takes the edge off without causing sleepiness all day long. If bearable I will just take tylenol. Good luck to you on your journey and I hoe soon we will be able to compare notes on the "loser's" bench!
