While I go through this new adventure of mine, I am having some issues with my husband. He is very much over weight and I am worried about him. He's 27 years old and he's in worse shape then my 51 year old father that has heart disease, diabetes and kidney cancer. I want him to exercise with me or go for walks and he just laughs at me. He's been eating so much better since what I make for myself he has to eat or he won't eat. That issue is he eats enough for 3-4 people and I hate saying something but I have. My question is, has anyone been dealing with this and what have you done? I don't want to be the wife that nags on my husband about his weight but I don't want to see him go through what my dad did. Plus I think it will help our marriage in many ways too!!! Please help!!!

Thank you everyone!!! This afternoon after we finished running our errands we sat down and talked. I explained to him that I'm worried for him now. At first I was worried and was afraid I would go down the same path as my father. Which was one of two main reasons why I had the surgery. The other I'm hoping to be able to get pregnant after at least hit my year mark. I know he has a lot of self esteem issues dating back all the way from when he was a kid and being constantly told he couldn't do anything himself without help. We have made great progress together with that. Anyway....we talked and I told him exactly how I felt. Pointed out some stuff to him and told him he doesn't want to deal with what I experienced. I had diabetes and having to poke my finger 5-6 times a day and insulin shots. I was put in the hospital for 5 days when I first got diagnosed with that cause it nearly killed me. Spent the last 3 years keeping it under control with diet only. I told him he doesn't want to come close to having to do that. After our talk and everything that was said he has agreed to start doing more and has asked me to come up with a plan for him. I've spent the better part of the afternoon coming up with a food plan and exercise plan that he won't hate me for. It's not strict yet it's something to get him up off the couch. I've came up with a chart that I laminated to help him out since he does have some memory issues from a childhood illness. I want to thank everyone that has replied and gave me the kind advice. Hope everyone that is in my position I pray that one day they will realize and start making better health choices too. Thank you again!!! I will keep you informed

That's what happened at first but I've cut back enough that he has to spilt the meal between his dinner and his packed lunch for work. I can't be around 24/7 and he does great when I'm home but when I'm not, he makes up for not eating.

Thank you. I know I can't make him and over all I want the decision to be his. I just wish I could encourage him more to be active. I know he wants to cause his reaction to the scale last weekend. I will just continue cooking healthy meals and hopefully something in his head will make him come around.

It could be for sure but he refuses. I've brought it up and he's dead set against it for himself.

How could I not lose weight?
heather200202 replied to tzbandtobypass's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can only talk about my experience but I stalled out 2 weeks after my surgery (11/26 surgery date) and I have just started to lose weight again this past week. Good job on getting all your protein and water in. Im just now starting to get my recommended protein intake in and calories are now getting above 500. Just make sure you are following what you are suppose to do. Walk a little more if you are able to. You can always email or call you nut. and give all them information and see what they say. Good luck and don't get to discouraged it will start to move again -

Vicki, I totally agree with you. The vitamins totally surprise me on who can take what and when and how different it all is. Same with eating. When I had my class before surgery we were all told 2 weeks of liquid then 2 weeks of puréed then to start soft foods and work your way up from that. I was on a puréed foods before I left the hospital and on soft foods 8 days after surgery (the fact of eating puréed foods literally made me really sick and I didn't eat and hardly drank for 4 days cause I felt like a failure). My doctor words exactly "take very very small bites and chew chew chew cause if you don't you will feel like you wanna die. Of course you won't but you will want to." I haven't had any issues at all and I am 2 months post op today. I really like this app cause everyone has different experiences and shares that. Gives you an idea of different possibilities and you can explore those on your own. I have learned so much and have tried new stuff from what people have said on here. If it don't work, it don't work and you move onto something else that might. I think we should compare notes sometime and look at the differences and take that to our doctors and nutritionist and see why it's different. Just an idea. Lol. Have a great weekend everyone!!!! -
I'm so tired

I had the same issue when I was post op. i'd fall asleep without knowing it and would wake up a few hours later. My doctor said it was perfectly normal as long as I was getting my liquids, protein and was able to get up and move around. That was my experience. -
I slept in a recliner till I got my staples out ( one week after surgery).

3 days post-op: How do I get everything in?
heather200202 replied to Catgyrl68's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This may help. When I was sent home from the hospital I have a 32oz cup and they wanted two of those down a day. Well that didn't happen and I got so dehydrated I couldn't hardly stand for more then 5 minutes without wanting to pass out. So I started drinking out of a 8oz cup and just kept tract of how many I drank. I knew I needed it to be gone in a hour. That has helped a lot and that way you don't get overwhelmed. -
Walking helped with me. I just kept walking till I felt better.

Drinking Alcohol....
heather200202 replied to CP3482's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told not to till the incisions are completely healed and you get cleared by the doctor. -
I had my surgery 11/26 and I lost a lot of weight the first 3 weeks and haven't dropped more then 5 pounds since. I was freaking out and I even cried for a few days thinking I was doing something wrong. I read a lot of posts on here saying its very common and I doing what people have said to do and the scale is starting to move again. I have to agree with everyone hide the scale for a week or so. I only weigh myself once a week. That way I don't get depressed. Stay positive and take advice from others. It may or may not work but something will and then you will know what to do the next time.

What do you take when you are sick?
heather200202 replied to theby_88's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I took Tylenol cold and sinus and had plenty Vicks around (machine ran all the time and the Vicks Puffs with lotion are awesome) and I was over mine in less than a week. -
-
Just was wondering if there is any cold medicine we are not suppose to take and which would be the best to take?? I've been around family that has been sick and now lucky me I have it now. I've looked in my book from class and it has nothing in it about cold medicine and of course it's the weekend and both my doctor offices are closed.

Thank you so much. I agree it's awful!! Hope you feel better soon too!!! -
No need to feel like a failure. It will happen. I wish my weight loss would slow down. I've lost 40 pounds since my surgery 2 weeks ago. I've had nothing but issues. Dehydration is my biggest issue that I believe I am finally getting under control. I'm just taking it day by day and keeping in close contact with my doctor.

Heating pad works. -
I quit smoking 5 months prior to surgery. Had to be smoke free for 3 months before they would even consider doing my surgery. I haven't had one urge to smoke since I quit. I figured if I'm putting myself through all of this to get heathy I will do everything to make sure I don't start smoking up again.

The drain removal doesn't hurt but it's a feeling you won't forget. Just breathe through it and it will be over in quickly.

I had my surgery last Monday and I get my staples out today. If I wasn't, I would have called my doctor to take them out. They hurt, can't get comfortable and hardly sleeping. My drainage tube was out 2 days after surgery. That was starting to hurt too.
