I've been dealing with some family issues and need some advice on how to deal with it. I've been told recently I have been rude and being a b**tc to certain people in my family. (Brother and sister) They are saying I'm acting this way cause I think I am so much better then they are since I've lost my weight. The truth is I am tired of the drama that surrounds them and I'm finally saying something about it and I don't want to listen to it anymore. This drama is always constant and never seems to go away. Should I just keep putting up with it for the sake of my family? Should I just cut ties with them? Please help and any advice is sure welcome. Thanks!!!!

I've never stopped using them. I have used a straw since i was allowed to drink the day after surgery. Everyone is different. You can try and see if you have a issue or not.

When Can We Take Whole Pills?
heather200202 replied to preshiz pink's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've taken whole pills since the day after surgery. I do cut my calcium pills in half. The rest are small enough and I've never had any issues. -
I know everyone's plan is different but my doctor and nut want me to sip sip sip all the time and if we were not meeting liquid intake they wanted up to substitute any actual meals with a liquid meal replacement. My protein shakes did count as liquid intake too. I can drink more then 4-5oz in an hour and always could. When you've had to much at once you will know and it's a miserable feeling. It gets easier as time goes on.

Need some advice
heather200202 replied to heather200202's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's sad that my husbands family is very very supportive of me and our (my husband and myself) decision to live a healthier lifestyle and they are all very much over weight. They've even started cooking more at home then going out. -

The issues go way beyond my weight loss. I live over 150 miles away from them. I seem to be the call to person when someone wants something. When I'm visiting, they don't even give me the time of day besides making rude comments to me or when she wants something. My sister has gotten into this mindset that everyone owes her something or that everything needs to be about her. It's all childish behavior. If and when she decides to grow up and realize I don't care who was talking crap about who or what my parents do or any of that, I may decide to let her back into my life. Right now, I took a step to better my life with this surgery and we all know how hard this is without all the negativity and drama. For once I am focusing on myself, my needs, and my health. -

Thank you everyone for your advice and honesty. I have after awhile of thoughtful consideration and talking to my husband that I am going to cut ties with some people. Right now my parents will continue to be apart of my life as they have been the supportive ones (the most out of the rest) plus my dad only has a short while to live and don't want to miss my time with him over this. Kelly, you are right as this has been very emotional and something I don't need right now. I've decided to have this surgery to become healthier and having drama to this extent isn't healthy. -

I knew before this surgery that I wasn't going to get the support from them and I understood and was perfectly ok with that. I also knew that the smaller I got, that I would probably get some jealousy but this??? -

I believe the main issue is My sister for sure is jealous. Shes always been the skinny one in the family and I've always been the biggest. I'm the same size as she is right now and I know she's hating it. I've quit telling anyone how much weight I've lost cause I can tell by the looks I get from them that they don't like it. I'm not bragging, I'm just happy about what I've accomplished. They've also been trying to sabotage the work I've been doing by telling me one bite of this won't kill me or one drink of this won't either. I keep telling them I don't want to hear about all the drama and I've tried staying out of it. I don't want to cut ties with them but they seem ready to do that with me right now for the comment that was posted on Facebook. -
Describe your 1-day post-op PAIN please
heather200202 replied to Cherry's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery on Monday and don't remember any of Monday except bits and pieces till about 8 that night. That's when I was finally able to stay awake longer then a minute. I slowly made my way up and walked the halls. Tuesday they took my pain pump away and had one dose of Vicodin all day. My only pains where gas pains. I walked a lot that day. I was released on Wednesday morning took another dose before I left. Where I had the drain tube was where I had 99% of my pain. That thing was out Wednesday morning. When I was home I took Vicodin before bed every night till the following Tuesday when I had my staples taken out and I haven't touched a pain pill since. -
To log, or not to log
heather200202 replied to groovykg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your directly quoting my husband - he said why bother having surgery if your already trying to “trick” the system - this is the last stop for me - and I will give it everything I have - I already have my before picture - I sure as heck don’t want it to look just like the after (with a few laproscopic scars added) I agree with you. I didn't do this to go back to my old ways. I did this to become healthy. If I wanted to eat fast food, pizza, wings, and all that I would have just stayed the way I was. Dealt with my high blood pressure, diabetes, and all that. Everyone has the choice to eat what they want but if you're not going to follow the plan that was given to you, don't complain about not losing weight. I'm happy with my decision to have my surgery and was ready to give up all the food that made me the way I was. I will never go back to that again. That's just my opinion and sorry if I offended anyone. -
To log, or not to log
heather200202 replied to groovykg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't log anything. I do write down on a board on my fridge the amount of Protein I eat a day and Fluid intake that's it. My nut doesn't want me counting calories. She said it could lead to bad habits again to meet the calorie goal. This is my personal choice to not log. I am 4 months post op and have lost 84 pounds. Also just to throw in about what I hear about people eating....I think it's crazy that you would even want to try and see what you can get away with. I carry Protein Bars with me all the time. So if I'm hungry I can eat and eat something that's good for me. If I have to go into a fast food restaurant I don't order anything and I just eat my bar. Other people eating food in front of me doesn't bother me anymore. I just think to myself "if they only knew what that is doing to them". -

How much HELP do I need on the day I get home?
heather200202 replied to Cherry's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The day I was released my husband picked me up and took me home. He works 3rd shift so he went to bed and worked that night. He made sure I was comfortable in the recliner and had my water and pain meds beside me and I was set. I even made him dinner that night. Everyone is different and also depends on how well you feel after surgery. -

heather200202 replied to crazedteacher's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sorry to hear you are in so much pain. I'm assuming that you are still in the hospital? Ask for pain meds and make sure they stay on top of that. I felt the same way and now 4 months later I feel awesome. I would do it over again in a heart beat. Just remember the pain will eventually go away and so will the weight. -
It will go back to normal. I can't really tell you when cause everyone is different. It did take me a few weeks to feel comfortable enough to wear jeans cause of the incisions and the swelling. Good luck and hope you enjoy this new journey!!!

My nut don't want me to count calories. She said that if you focus on calories people will start to eat unhealthy foods to meet their calorie intake. I just count protein and down 75 pounds in 3 1/2 months. Every doctor is different so if you're not for sure you should ask to see what they want you to do.

3-month post-op food cravings bread and cookoes
heather200202 replied to bakawaka's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was actually the same way. I drank only Water and sucked on sf Popsicles. It will get better. Took me almost a month to finally get that nasty taste to go away. Then it was relearning what I did and didn't like cause that all changed. Like for example...my chocolate shakes, I loved them before surgery and now if I smell chocolate milk or a chocolate shake I'm running away. This is going to sound really disgusting but if I'm craving something that we shouldn't eat, I put it in my mouth, chew it and spit it out then wash my mouth out with Water. It feeds my craving and yet I'm not swallowing it and gonna regret it later. Highest Weight: 331 Surgery Date: 11/26/12 319lbs Current Weight: 257 01/28/13 Goal Weight: 157 -
Imcgloom, I totally agree with your last paragraph. My husband and I have been at odds with each other for the past year or 2. I was so unhappy I actually did leave a couple times and wanted to divorce him every day. We talked about it constantly and for some unknown reason we stuck it out. I'm 3 months post op and our marriage is the best it's ever been. We will be married 5 years next month. I had a lot of issues with myself and was taking it out on him and blaming him for it all. I have more confidence in myself now and I'm extremely happy with myself since surgery. If you can stick it out till afterwards that would be my advice. As long as their is no violence going on.....things might change around for you both post op but then again it may not. Only you can make that choice and whatever choice you make I hope nothing but the best for you Highest Weight: 331 Surgery Date: 11/26/12 319lbs Current Weight: 257 01/28/13 Goal Weight: 157

Gallbladderproblems
heather200202 replied to Solveig Larsen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My gallbladder surgery was worse then my rny. I ended up 6 months after that surgery having to go to another surgeon to figure out why I was still having pain and he said I could have that for a few days to months to years or life. I had the surgery in 2010 and last summer I quit having those sharp side pains. Highest Weight: 331 Surgery Date: 11/26/12 319lbs Current Weight: 257 01/28/13 Goal Weight: 157
