Hypothyroidism and Gastric Bypass
ahanson82520 replied to laughingheels's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thats an excellent question in my opinion. I was on synthroid before my surgery which was on 11/5/12... Part of my discharge instructions was to stop taking that and my blood pressure meds... I havent looked back since. My thyroid and blood pressure have been great and I am down 99.5lbs... So if I was to guess I would say you will have no troubles. But everyone is different and your results might be different too... -

I am eating just about anything healthy that I choose.. I am avoiding beef and pork pretty much all the time.. but turkey and chicken seem to go down really well. I tried beef again tonight and as I sit here writing this to you know - I really regret it. It is making my pouch very angry and in a little bit of pain. We aren't supposed to try beef until 4 months, but I just had to see how it would go. Bad move on my part. Now the things that go really well for me include almonds, Protein bars, chicken, oatmeal (I buy the low sugar fruit flavored instant ones), lots of Soups. My overall goal is to only eat things that are healthy and that include some sort of protein. I have to confess though. Last night we went to a wrestling tournament and someone in our group had a concession stand nacho. OMG.. I had to try one. So I took a bite of one of the chips and that was enough for me. It guess it was more of a need to satisfy the craving than anything else. -

I intro things super super slowly... If I want to try something I will wait until someone else is having it and then I will ask for a tiny bit (Someone else means my wife or kids). It is interesting though because sometimes I will try something and it will be ok - but then the next time I try it - it doesn't go so hot. Strange I guess. -
I am a huge fan of the Chobani in Vanilla flavor...

I couldn't do the fruity drinks they sent me home with. Truly upset the applecart... So my wife got me MuscleMilk Lite Ready To Drink. They have 100 calories no sugar and 15g of Protein. And the best part is they go down easy and I can get most of my protein between them and yogurt. I'm 8 days post op today and since surgery have lost 18lbs. Good luck, Andy H.

And I'm officially home. Feeling pretty good. I'm excited to share my experiences over the next few days and weeks for those about to take the next step. I truly appreciate all the positive comments and welcoming here... Andy H. -
Hey gang.. So is it just me or are you folks getting nervous and not able to sleep? I'm really good with the lifestyle changes.. That part I'm super excited about. In fact I started this process at almost 330 and am down to 308. It's the actually the surgery that keeps me up at night. Oh I know it'll be ok... But dang I am not a fan of that part. Ok... Sorry for the rant! Surgery 11/5/12 at 630 am sharp... Doing two that day and I'm the first case. Said it should be 2hr 45min to 4hrs.
