    National average surgery goals

My surgeon said that you lose about 70% of excess weight over the first year. so I would say the loss of excess is probably over the first year. Or at least that's what I've been told...
  6. Goodluck to you all! I finish 6 month supervised diet febuary 5th. Will do psych eval, pulmanologist,(spelling?) Cardialogist, nutritionist, another class, and sleep study starting this month and finishing by febuary. Will switch insurance plan march 1 hope to submit everything the week of march5th. Have aproval by end of march and surgery by end of april at the VERY latest! Although my bmi is at like 54. and I have high blood pressure. Although lately only been borderline high (dropped about 10 lbs in the last 4 months of diet) so assumeing that's helped my hbp. I'm excited and waiting seems like a life time although its actually gone by pretty fast and just hopeing everything goes as planned. Praying to god for everything to go as planned and god willing it will! My insurance plan I have now rarely approves anyone and needs 5 years of all sorts of records so can't wait to switch (as suggested by my surgeon and all the people involved in helping me get approved) and should be approved (the insurance plan I'm switching to approves people with bmi of 35 and above. (No need for comorbities, but having them puts the cherry on the cake) so cannot wait. Hope everything goes smoothly for all of us and good luck to you all! And yay we are all pretty much on the same schedule for our diets and whatnot!
  7. Hey everyone I'm getting super excited. 3 months done out of 6 for medically supervised diet. Be done in febuary and submit in march (hopefully) today I called the surgeons office because I have been waiting since august or september for my sleep study referal. And the lady at the surgeons office said he didn't put that I needed this. I'm sitting here like well he told me I do lol. Well anyways long story short, I am switching my insurance plan on march 1. And the insurance I'm switching to is much easier to be approved than the one I'm on now. So anyways she told me to call her in march to get it scheduled I totally cried! I was so worried that would push me back to june or july before id have the surgery. Well omg I'm so happy the sleep study place called and I have an appointment for a consultation on december 17. I'm like yay that's a month away now I won't be pushed back! I can still possibly have it by mid april! (And that's at the latest) thank god the got this taken care of today I already been waiting about 3 months lol so excited because things are so close and I'm happy. I've never been so happy for something ever and reading everyones stories completely makes me even more excited! Yay lol I haven't been able to express this to anyone other than my family. But omg when they called I cried I'm so happy! Anyways sorry for blabbering on just so happy! :-D

I was just wondering if anyone else tested positive for this? I got the call this am that I tested positive for hpylori and everything else looked good for blood work. I'm just wondering what is this anyways? I have no problems with my stomach or acid reflex and I was told most people don't even know they have it. Anyways have to take 2 weeks worth of antibiotics and usually when taking antibiotics (the last time I took them anyways) I get super bad yeast infection (sorry if tmi!) So I just hope these don't cause that! Anyways anyone can give me more info would be great thanks!

    Heavier Than I Look!

Yeah it definitely depends on body type and height that plays a role cause I'm 330 and I'm 5'5 and wear a size 20-24 cause I'm "all around" big too big bottom, thighs and belly and back roles but no tatas either lol the cruel joke here is my whole family are big busted (even the ones who weigh 100lbs) and me pretty much nothing there haha but I do agree my sister is like 250 and she wears the same size clothes I do but they are lose on her thighs. She's all belly and only 5' so def depends on all that

Yeah its A LOT of antibiotics I have to take 2 different kinds plus an acid reducer. I just have to wait for the 2nd antibiotic to be approved by my insurance otherwise I have to pay couple hundred $$ out my pocket which I don't have! But I was wondering after being treated does it come back? Cause I won't have my surgery until febuary or march so if I take the meds by the end of this month do I have high chance of it coming back as positive on blood work?
  11. My surgeon requires me to be on birth control I believe. I was told not to stop taking it but I won't be having the surgery till end of febuary to march because I am doing a 6 month supervised diet and be done begining of febuary. Hmm ill have to ask again. And with the pregnancy I thought most surgeons do pregnancy tests (blood) before doing much more. Or at least mine did.
  12. I also had to go to obgyn with my obgyn I have to have clean pap and also be on birth control pill (surgeon doesn't like depo shot cause of weight gain I guess) good thing I started the pills couple months ago. But had to get my annual pap anyways so it works out for me in the long run. Congrats on getting everything squared away! GL to you on your journey :-)

    February 2013 Dates?

I'm only on my second month diet my weigh in is on october 9th out of 6 month diet. Ill be done with my 6 month diet on like feb 4 or something to that effect I have them written down. So hopeing for rny being end of febuary to beggining of march! I'm extra excited :-) GL and hopefully this goes by fast :-D
  14. Hey everyone I was wondering if any of you know of any high protein low carb diet foods would be good to have? I have to take in around only 1500 calories a day but need low carb and lots of protein. Any lists of foods or diet plans so I can follow it I'm bad at following diets unless I have someone there supporting me or doing it with me. (I'm alone in this cause hubby is picky eater and my family like siblings and parents aren't dieting either...) so any suggestions would be great along with very appreciated. Also I've heard of cologen (spelling?) protein shakes I was wondering if anyone knows if that would help with sagging after surgery? Well anyways thanks so much!

    6 Month Diet

The waiting is definitely torture! I just know I want these next few months to go by quick so I can get on the losing side. :-) ohh and its funny cause I always thought it'd take forever to turn 21, but my husband was like you'll be 21 before you know it (and this was 3 years ago) and now I'm 21 and it went by sooo fast so hopefully this goes by super fast like my big 21. :-)
  16. So today I had to go to my pcp to get Referal for Medical Neccessity and had to start my 6 month diet. I'm happy because he filled out one of my diet papers saying 1400-1600calorie intake my behavior goals exercise plan and if I'm doing good or not and he says I'm complying to what the diet plan is and there's no weight loss as of yet. So 5 more weighins (every 4 weeks be done by febuary) super excited for this. I've never been so happy to see doctors ever... I just want to finish this diet plan and get on moving with this bypass! I want to be healthy and good to go! Whoohoo.

    Anxious!

Today I had my initial consult with the surgeon and I'm definitely anxious now! So I have a few things I have to get done, 6months pcp supervised diet, psych eval, my initial labs, and surgeon wants me to do a sleep study. (Cause my weight but also because I'm always up every couple hours a night) then within 90 days (of surgery) I have to get pulmonary and cardiology clearance. So I'm completely excited. My insurance I have right now, I would have to do a WHOLE year of supervised diet, but I'm switching to a different plan when open enrolement is (febuaryish) so then it'll only be 6months. I'm really happy to start this journey! I'm only 21 and have high risk for diabetes heart disease and a ton of other health problems so I'm taking control of my life! I already have high blood pressure, have had asthma since I was 6months old and possibly sleep apnea! I really cannot wait this surgeon is compassionate and I'm so happy I found him! 6 to 9 months and ill have my surgery and start moving on with leaving behind this old me! So right now I weigh 326lbs (I range btwn 325 to 336... 2 weeks ago I was 334 so my weight fluxuates a lot lol) I'm happy and excited, good thing is my insurance takes my bmi from this initial consult with surgeon so even if I lose 30lbs before I have surgery this use the weight and bmi from today! :-) so I'm just so anxious and happier than ever! I just cannot wait till it gets closer to the 6 months so I can get a surgery date! Whoohoo! Haha ok so now I'm done blabbering on I'm just soooo excited!

    Finally!

Fingers crossed for you! And prayers your way!
  19. So I had my seminar today, and am super stoked about this. One negative to it is I have to do 1 WHOLE year of supervised diet which I can totally deal with but it does kinda suck because I was hopeing for only a 6 month diet. But I was told if I could switch to another insurance which is still part of my insurance just a different plan. Then I would only have to do 6 month diet. Which is awesome! So I'm going to talk to my insurance to make sure there will be no penalties and see about switching to this other plan. I still am going to see tbhe doc and everything will basically roll over and I won't have to start over. So far I have the seminar done off the check list of requirements. So here ill list what insurance requires. -seminar -class attendance (which is educational classes there are 2 before surgery) -consult with surgeon (which is next week on 8/30) -5 years of past med records (weight documented 2-3office visits a year... which I have) -BMI 35- with 1 co-morbidity (my bmi is freaking 55 and I have high blood pressure) -12 months of physician supervised diet (unless I switch plans then only 6months) -psychological eval (with MMPI what the heck is mmpi lol) -pulmonary clearance -cardiac clearance -letter of recomendation from pcp (med necessity) -documentation from pcp on smoking cessation for min of 6 months (not sure what this is!) -maintain food diary (not sure for length of time will def ask surgeon) -physical activity log (same as food diary ask surgeon) I'm extra excited that I've gotten this taken care of and I'm very suprised that it really isn't too much asking for except the length of time it takes! I'm just excited about this whole thing, and my surgeon is very honest and careing. And he seemed definitely great! So I'm just excited to see what the next year brings! Because I've been trying to get this taken care since 2010 and since I found a doctor who knows what they are doing now I can actually get this done! I cheers to that. Oh and found out the drug screen and alcohol and tabacco screen too (which I don't smoke or do drugs but occasionally have a drink! So idk how that's gonna work out!)

    Super Exciteddd :d

This definitely helps thank you sooo much! And I have to get both cardiac and pulmoary because I have high blood pressure and asthma (although my asthma hasn't bothered me for a long time like it used to I have to get both clearances!) But thanks sooo much you like answered everything for me! I'm definitely excited, and I'm not sure if january is or not! I was talking with my mom and there are 2 different open enrollments for my insurance (but I only get 1) we aren't sure if it was july or if its in like january/febuaryish! Haha we are caling my insurance tomorrow to double check everything with them. So I'm happy to say soon ill be having my bypass done and feeling tons better about myself! I cannot wait for this life changing event!
  21. Hello everyone, I recently started looking into getting gastric bypass as I've gained a ton of weight and I've done every diet out there to lose weight to just gain instead. My highest weight recorded is 336lbs. But I've been at 350 now I'm at 330. I have high blood pressure due to my weight. And I'm at high risk of diabetes and high cholesterol. (Although my doctors are very happy with my blood work) anyways I was just curious what the process is to get the rny approved through insurance. I am 330lbs 21yrs old and about 5'6, my bmi is calculated at around 50 (maybe a little higher I'm not 100% sure) I'm going to seminar tomorrow 8/21 then setting an appointment to see surgeon asap! I was just wondering what the process is what tests usually are needed to be done preop. I've done some research but would like to hear what actual people who's had it done have to say about it. I'm very curious what everyones input is about this is. Sorry for rambling on and hope to hear some input on this thanks!
