    Insurance Cost

dfwtxfemme, I'm a cash pay patient also. If you don't mind does what your paying only cover what's involved that actually day of surgery and the one night at the hospital? My surgery is about the same as you 19600 but that covers initial consult, everything with surgery, 3 nights, 3 months post op visits, EDG, psyc eval. You should look into BLIS if your doc hasn't mentioned it yet, it is for cash paid bariatric patients. It like an insurance just in case you have any complication or have to go back to the hospital for some reason afterward you don't have to worry about having to pay more. It has different increments of time that you can be covered.
  2. Well I just turned 25 Tuesday so I guess you don't want to talk to me. I'm getting old!!! j/k. Lol I'm having my surgery on the 30th. How are you feeling about yours?

    Pureed Stage

My doc said no baby food. He says it fill of fillers and sugar and little nutrients cuz it job is to make babies gain weight. Maybe the ones at whole food are better. I'm just going to puree the protein and veggie that I cook for my husbands meal. I have a pretty good blender so it will do. Only on that stage for 2 weeks.

    Pureed Stage

I haven't had surgery yet but my lil booklet says I start puree diet the second day after surgery ans it just said to blend up regular food. Its says for meats to blend them with a lil broth or the liquid they cooked in and also with veggies. Fruits to just blend by themselves and if needed add a little water.

    October Surgery Dates

Its official I'm having my surgery on the 30th. I've known that date for a while but didn't want to say cuz I wasn't sure it was going to happen. I had to find the money to pay for it cuz my insurance doesn't cover it. Well after a lot of work and worrying I found it and it is officially official. Pre op is on the 24th, EDG on the 25th, and surgery on the 30th. I'm so excited but the nerves or kicking in now.

    Gastric Bypass And Pcos

My surgery is scheduled for Oct 30th but everything isn't finalized yet but I'm determined to have it then. Are you OK with getting pregnant before you reach your goal. My ultimate goal is 190 (I dont want to be any smaller then that). But I'm going to stop the birth control when I reach 250 and let things happen naturally. I'm really praying our issue is my weight.

    Birth Control Pills

Im not on birth control right now but my surgeon insist that i get on it but says wait til after surgery. It is because the hormones thicken your blood and there is a higher chance for blood clots. Also my ob/gyn doesn't recommended the pill after gastric bypass cause of the whole malabsorption factor cause the pill may not be as effective. So just call your Dr and see what he says about taking it now and also if you should consider a different form of birth control. I'm going to try implanon, its an implant that goes in your arm and it only has progesterone if your concerned about hormones. Which I am I prefer a less as possible. And you can take it out when ever. Good luck with everything.

    Off Work Time

My Dr says a minimum of 4 week for any of his wls. With gastric bypass, my Dr has a g tube in for a minimum of 4 weeks so I'm planning on taking that and a lil more if I can.

    Gastric Bypass And Pcos

I don't have Pcos but I want to start having kids after my surgery. I'm hoping my weight is the reason I haven't gotten pregnant yet. Been with my husband 8 years and not on birth control for 5 of those years. Not that we were trying but you would think it would happen in that time frame. But there were other factors. Have you met your goal or close to your goal? I would love updates and be able to wish you baby luck. I probably won't be trying til this time next year but I hope it happens for you soon . They say fertility goes crazy high after wls. Good luck!!!!!

    Please Helppppppp

I'm sorry your in plan. I was told no NSAIDs for the rest of your life after surgery. Its because of the risk of ulcers. With a normal sized stomach they are rough on it so the little pouch can't handle them at all. Hope you something for the pain.

    Got My Surgery Date!

Hey congratulations, my surgery is also scheduled for Oct 30th right now.
  12. Congrats, I passed mine today too. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The psychologist actually was 6 years out from gastric bypass so it was really nice to talk to someone so far out and knows personally what I'm going through and will go through.

    A Date At Last!

Congratulations on your date. I have to have one also. My surgeon requires everyone to get it the week before surgery. You'll be asleep, it'll be fine.
  14. So I had my class today and I will be coming home with a g-tube as well as a Blake drain. The drain comes out after 2 weeks and the g-tube has to be in for a minimum of 4 weeks no exception. My surgeon is very cautious and I love that but I'm so nervous about these things sticking out of me especially the g-tube. The drain helps them identify leaks sooner cuz they have you drink blue powerade for 2 weeks and if any blue comes in the drain you know there is a problem. The g- tube is to make sure you get all your protein in. If you can't get all by month you pour it down the g-tube. So I like that from day 2 I will be getting all my protein. But I have to get use to the idea that I will have tubes coming out my stomach for a month. But I'm biggest issue is that I'm the matron of honor in my friends wedding a little over 2 weeks after surgery, how am I going to hide that under my dress?
  15. I'm just starting my journey and have my first appt on the 5th but wanted to ask everyone that has had their surgery if you came home with anything attached to you. While reading a few post from the hospital forum where I will be having my surgery they talk about a GI tube and a drain still being in when they got home and not coming out till like 4 weeks. Also I read somewhere else that someone had the pain Med bubble thing (lol sorry don't remember what its called). I'm going to ask my dr at my appt but was interested in how many of you came home with something attached and how long till it was removed. Dr office told me 8-12 weeks from initial appt til surgery so I'm looking at end of Oct beginning of Nov so trying to get as much info as possible.

My insurance doesn't cover the surgery so I'm self pay. I'm refinancing my house and waiting on that to go through. The diet is like high Protein low Carb. Lean meats veggies fruits and milk with 2 Protein shakes. I haven't really started yet but trying. I don't see the dietitian til Oct 4 but I'm trying to work on it.

    15 Pounds

I have to lose 15lb too. I have until Oct 24, that my pre op appt and surgery on the 30th. My appt with dietician isn't til Oct 4 so trying to follow a diet my scheduler gave me. Not going that well but I'm determine to get it done. I have to. I started back at the gym so hopefully that will help. I'm going to try the full liquid diet on my own before my appt. We can do it. Do you have a deadline?

    Pre Op Test?

Hey I'm 24 and pre op. I'm pretty much healthy except for my weight and I have to have psych evaluation, cardiology eval (due to my size, but never had heart problems, they did an ekg and echo), see a dietician, and go to a class. They do the edg a few day before surgery. Did they give you a time frame for surgery?

I Am Down 2 Bra Sizes!

I'm really hoping I don't lose my chest when I have my surgery. I wasn't blessed with much so if I lose any they will be nonexistent. I'm like a C now.
  22. seiko

    Biotin

I'm also pre op but I've been taken biotin for a while now just for the benefits for hair skin and nails. I'm also hoping it helps later on so I don't experience the hair loss. But I take a 5000mcg capsule everyday.

    High Protein Snacks?

Maybe cheese or if you have unflavoured protein put it in applesauce, peanut butter, if you can eat solids you can make like meat and cheese rolls
  24. I just had my first appt with my surgeon. We talked, he listened to my insides and the ball started rolling. My education class is scheduled for the 18th, dietician appt set for Oct 4, waiting on call from psych and cardiology for appt. And that's it. I'm so excited that it has started now. I have to lose 15-20lbs before surgery so I'm starting pre op diet tomorrow. The best part is I have a goal surgery date of Oct 30th. She even penciled me in the calendar. I'm nervous and excited at the same time. I think I want to cry (happy tears of course). I'm self paid so don't have wait on insurance but need to make sure I can get the money. Planning on refinancing my house. Asking for all the prayer I can get.
