  1. Mariposa Bella,

I completely understand what you are going through. I had a lap band in July 2007 By Dr Aceves in MX.. I lost 65 lns & felt wonderful.. however things got difficult when I couldnt eat chicken, meat, salads, etc.. food kept getting stuck. I had the band removed in the US, my insurance covered it in July 2010. I have also gained over 30lbs.. My insurance has denied gastric bypass because my BMI is 37.6 with no co-morbidities & my doctor doesnt do bands!

I am now trying to get surgery for the sleeve in MX.

Good luck to you, I really do understand what you are going through!

  2. Im just wondering what anyone has paid for a revision in Mexico.. My band was renoved over a year ago because I had difiiculty eating Proteins, meat, chicken, salad but could eat ice cream, candy etc.. I did lose weight but it was difficult with all the vomiting that kept happening when I tried to eat good food.< /p>

Anyway i have gained back 30lbs..I see the low costs but am told it is at least a $1000 more because I had a band.

I orig had may band done in 2007 by Dr Aceves. Am now thinking about Dr Kelly due to his cost is still lower & he does have good reviews.

  3. I dont understand insurance companies.. I had a lap band placed 7/2007 with Dr Aceves. I started out at 215 & got down to 157... It then became really difficult to eat, things got stuck. i could eat ice cream but not chicken, salad, beef..etc..

I decided to have it removed 7/2010 & my insurance covered it, i weighed 168 when I had it removed. Now 1 year later i weigh 198 lbs. My insurance is denying VSG & gastric bypass because my BMI is 37 & I have no comorbidities. i am panning to go back to Mexico in fall for VSg as a self pay..

    very frustrating........

  4. Hi! So, this isn't really an insurance question but I figured this would be the most appropriate place to post it. :)

Does anyone know if the Family Medical Leave Act applies for surgeries done in Mexico? I'd like to take sick time for this but wasn't sure if I would be able to as I wouldn't be seeing a US doctor.

Thanks in advance for any guidance you can offer!

    Ann

I had lap band July 2007 in Mexico & was able to take FMLA. I had no issues with my employer accepting the form the doctor had filled out.

  5. I had lap band done by Dr Aceves July 2007.. I orig weighed 215 lbs & got down to 160. I only had 2 fills but had problems with eating chicken, beef, salad, etc.. I lived on Soups, ice cream...i constantly had purging issues!

Anyway, I had the band removed July 2010, my insurance did pay for it & have now gained 30 lbs back,, YUCK, and get very depressed about it. I was afraid i had hurt my stomach, esophagus because of the purging but my doc said i was fine!

I am thinking about VSG but feel like such a failure with the lap band. I am also thinkg of using Dr kelly in TJ. Dr Aceves quoted me alot more money than Dr Kelly..

    Thamks for listening!!

  6. My band was removed on 7/22 & i am feeling much better now. The first day I was very sore but now am able to get up & walk.. my doctor said my opening with the band was 5mm, i guess that is why i had trouble eating chicken, meat, bread etc.. but could eat ice cream.. She did go down with a scope & my esophagus is fine.

I was actually able to eat salad for the first time in over a year & not throw up or get stuck.. My doc gave me no restrictions on foor for post op, just eat what i am able. m taking it slow for now.. stomach area pretty sore but feeling better evary day! i wil not be getting rebanded..

  7. Hi, just saw your port & am scheduled for band removal 7/22! When I had the band placed, I remember being very sore for about 2 weeks.. had to roll out of band, couldnt sit up from a lying down position.. I guess i want to know if it is the same pain you feel as when the band is placed vs having it removed.

    Thanks!

  8. Thanks for the reply! I hope all is going well! I did have a complete unfill March 2009 & food did go down a liitle better. I then gained about 10 pounds so got another fill in Aug 2009.. It seems the longer i go with a fill it gets tighter & cant eat food..

i know i wil have a food struggle the rest of my life but i am definately going ahead with the surgery..

i also thought this would be an out patient surgery but was told i would spend 1 night in the hospital..i see you spent the night also!

    take care!!

  9. Did you ever have your band removed?? i was banded in July 2007 & have had only had 2 fills.. I continually get stuck & cant get nutritious food down so I tend to eat "junk" . I was banded in Mexico & all went well with surgery & have lost 60 pounds.

Anyway I have insurance that should cover the removal & am scheduled for 7/22. The first surgeon i met with was not very nice, made me feel crazy.. I just saw another surgeon last week & she was so nice & agrees it needs to be removed. I did have an xray done last year that shows I have a small opening into my stomach & the band "may have some slipping" so hopefully all will go well.

i am so scared that i will never be able to eat normally after it is removed, i would LOVE to eat a salad, steak, chicken without it coming back up!!

  10. Hi, This is the first time I have posted on this site so I hope I am doing it correctly! I am seriously thinking of using Dr Huacuz for lap band, how was the facility? I have already talked to him ont he phone & was amazed he actually picked up! Sounds very nice, but I am still nervous.
