  1. Ok, an update.. Since I was feeling so sick on Thursday, had chills, diarrhea, low grade fever, the GI doc wanted me to do a stool sample again. I was hospitalized in early Aug for C Diff, a bacterial infection. Thy think I got it when I was in Mexico for my surgery.

Wel I got a call on Saturday from the on call gi doc & my C Diff is back.. I'm now on more antibiotics & he said I might have to be seen by an infectious disease doc.

It feels like I have the flu, achy, not hungry, no energy.

maybe when I actually get rid of the infection, I will feel better. I can't believe Im going through this, never thought I would be the one to have issues.

    Thanks for all your replys!

  2. Sleeved 7/9, almost 8 weeks out. I still can't get fluids, Protein in. I am always full after just a few ounces,.

Had ann EGD & an Esophageal motility test done 8/28. It showed food is not emptying from my stomach. The GI doc now wants me on a "gastroparesis" diet. No fresh fruit or vegs, lots of blended foods. I also have a follow up with him 9/18.

I probably only get about 16-24 ounces of fluids in daley & just some Soup once or twice a day. It is a big struggle. My weight today was 168 so I'm losing. Just hard because I get so weak & tired.

I had no health issues prior to my surgery..Not sure why this happening & I'm getting scared.

  3. I was sleeved 7/9 with Dr Garcia.. I sent a deposit & brought a cashiers check with me. I brought the cashiers check to the hospital & had to ask someone what to do with it, no one asked for me it! The care I recvd was great, I was in no pain!

Anyway, I do have issues but I dont think it is anyhting done by Dr Garcia.. I think im in the 1% bracket who is just having issues with eating, drinking.. I have lost 24 lbs, but now seeing a GI doc for heartburn, acid reflux & have an EGD, esoph manometry scheduled for 8/29.

  4. I never had acid reflux before my surgery & I would eat all kinds of junk! I have it so bad now that I'm scheduled for GI tests in 2 weeks. I had surgery 7/9 in Mexico & was able to see a bariatric surgeon a week ago thru my insurance. She said I may need a revision to gastric bypass to help the reflux issues. I don't think I could go thru anymore surgerys right now. I just want to stop the reflux, nausea & be able to get food down.

  5. Hi, all.

I have appointments next week for manometry and EGD. I'm especially nervous for the EGD because I've never been under general anesthesia before. Would anyone be willing to share their experiences with these procedures so I know better what to expect?

    Thanks!!

Im also scheduled for these procedures in 2 weeks. You should be put to sleep for the Egd & will be awake for the manometry.. I am freaking out about the manometry, they need to put a tube down your nose & you are awake.

Im only 5 weeks out & having trouble keeping things down, I can tell im eating more since my surgery but just feel so nauseated all the time & horrible gas, heartburn..I keep hoping I will start feeling better & wont need the procedures.

    Good luck, take care..

  6. I have posted a few times about this topic, but I'm still looking for some sort of similarity between someone else, because I am losing hope that I will ever ingest food again (I am not exaggerating).

Surgery on Monday, 8/6. By Friday, I can't keep any liquids down, so I go to surgeon's office. We find out through a barium swallow that I have a stricture. They think it is due to swelling so they send me home, hoping I can hydrate myself through the weekend.

Monday morning, I'm admitted to the hospital for dehydration. All weekend it was a constant pattern: 1 sip every 10 minutes, then 30ish minutes later, liquid would come up. No pain. Monday, I rested and hydrated, minimal Fluid loss, as I was not allowed to drink. Tuesday, rest and hydrate, no plan of attack by the surgeon. Wednesday, Upper GI/ Barium Swallow - indicates that there is still a stricture, same size.

Now, the surgeon says he is not sure what we should do because he believes it is too early to stretch it with a balloon because my stomach could rupture. I have been through hell here. They can't keep an IV in me, so I have to have a "pick line" through my arm and across my chest... I am trying so hard to stay positive, but I feel like I have no options. Can't go home without being able to keep liquids down (Currently 2 TBSP every hour), and it can take 3 months for the stomach heal...

SO??!! Anyone have anything like this? Any words of advice?

I'm getting zero nutrition. The past 10 days I have taken in NO calories of any kind. I'm worried I am losing weight too fast and in an unhealthy way. :/

I am so sorry you are going thru this.. I was sleeved 7/9 & have also been hospitlized once for hydration & bacterial infection.. I was also tested for a stricture but was ok..

I just saw the Gi doc & now he wants to order more tests, he is concerned I may have a stricture in my stomach that wasnt seen on the upper Gi test.

I dont know what to do anymore....

I will keep you in my thoughts & prayers...

  7. I am new to this forum and this is my first post. I just had to express my opinion on the topic. If I could turn back time and not get this surgery that would be great! If I would of listened to a few of my family members that told me not to get the surgery my life would be fine right now. I cannot tell you how much I have thought about this. I got the surgery on June 18th in Mexico, everything seemed fine. I was not in alot of pain, passed my leak test, just really tired.

I was post-op 3 weeks when I realized I was not getting better. I could not eat apple sauce, yogurt, etc....

I had to go to the emergency room 4 times to be given IV fluids from dehydration.

Finally, I knew something was not right! I asked my sister to drive me to a hospital in the city because we live in a pretty small town. The next morning she drove me to Phoenix, AZ to a hospital that had a Bariatric unit. They did a cat scan. Not only did I have a leak, I also had a stricture.

I had to stay in the hospital for a week. I had 2 stints put in my stomach. That was on July 19th. I have been living off fluids only.

This has been the worst experience of my life!

I have lost over 45 pounds and I could care less because to me, I am in the worst health I have been in my entire life.

I get my stints out on Thursday.

There was a couple times where I actually thought I was going to die. I know that alot of people have had great success with this surgery, but lets not forget that some people suffer from complications and some people suffer from death.

By the way the Bariatric center I was taken care of at saved my life and they have not had a leak there in five years!!!!!

I'm so sorry to hear of your health issues. I also had VSG in Mexico 7/9 & have been hospitalized for a bacteria infection & dehydration. I also live in AZ!

Im doing better but having major refllux issue. the good news is that I have a bariatric surgeon overseeing me now in AZ, & have a GI consult on Wednesday.

I hope You are feeling better soon!

  8. I have just been advised by a baristric surgeon to take 2 Prilosec daily for my heartburn. I am now going to take one in the am & one in pm.

she also said that if it doesn't go away, the solution would be to have a revision to gastric bypass but that would be along way out! I don't even want to think about that.

I am also seeing a GI doc on Wensday so hope to have more info.

I have never had heartburn, reflux b4 surgery, but it is really bad now & makes eating vey difficult.

  9. I would also have to say I Would not do this again. I was sleeved in Mexico 7/9 & then was hospitalized with a bacterial infection & hydration 8/3 for 4 days.

I also have horrible acid reflux, gas all the time which I have never had before!

Getting my Protein & Water in is still a struggle. I have also missed about 4 weeks of work & am due to go back 8/15.

Maybe I should reply to this in a couple of months!

  10. So frustrated. Sleeved on July 17. Had many complications during surgery, lost my IV, surgeon said my hiatal hernia was so bad that after he fixed it, there wasnt much stomach left so almost had to bypass me instead. (did sleeve, but took nearly 91% of my stomach) 3 weeks later and I still can't keep anything down. 150g of Protein? ? HA! be lucky if I can keep 5g down. My throat is swollen and sore and anytime i try to eat ANYTHING, it gets stuck in my throat. I try to wash it down just to vomit the liquid. I put myself of liquids only again, but even they don't stay down. Now I think my body has hit starvation mode because I'm not losing. I'm so frustrated and don't know what to do :( Yes, I've talked to my surgeon but he said my body must be more "sensitive to this procedure" than most and to give it time. idk.... :( feeling lost

  11. My surgery was 7/9 & I'm in the hospital right now writing this. I have developed a bacterial infection in my colon & have C diff.. I went to the ER last night cuz I have had difficulty eating & drinking anything. I felt I was dehydrated & was hoping to get some fluids. They did ct scans & said my surgery looks good but may have picked up the infection in Mexico.

I have such a hard time getting food & fluids in! I know exactly how you feel. I Am hoping things improve for you & me..

    Take care.

  12. I'm pre-op. are regrets around pain or wanting to eat and not being able to? Thanks!

I think Im just having a bad day & am afraid Im not getting enough fluids in!

Im also a revison from lap band so things may be affecting me differently. It is not so much missing the food I used to eat, it just being hard to eat anyhting right now. I do know it will get better, I just have to hang in there.

  13. Hi Paige,

Today is my first day back to work. I am still having diffculty eating, drinking.. I have lots of gas & need to take prilosec everyday. I have never had heartburn issues before & I woud eat lots of junk!

I am not getting enough Protein or Water down.. I try to do my Protein shake in the am but it still comes back up. I can barely do 4 ozs.. I then had some coffee & can only do a few ozs..

Hot tea seems to do ok with me.. I try string cheese & can barely get that down.

    I am having regrets everyday...........
