    Surgery Results

Hey Crazy Ates, Since I started this thread and promised I'd report in, here's my update. Surgery (Dr. Ortiz, MX) went exceptionally well, best recovery from a surgical procedure I'd ever had. No tube down the throat, no nausea afterward and killer drugs! Gotta love Mexico. Also, great after care. I'm feeling 90% today. The remaining 10% is the discomfort I feel when I'm driving and go over bumps and slight restlessness when sleeping. I've moved from broths to regular pureed type Soups now. I never want broth again! A hint for upcoming bandsters, if you have a Kitchen Kaboodle in your area, they carry broth in small single-use packets (beef, chicken & veg). It's like a syrup that you mix with a cup of hot Water. I brought some with me to MX and they were a godsend on my way home when my flight was delayed 3 times! All of them are pretty good but I liked the beef & veg best. I'm having a hard time getting liquids in as I'm really not interested in anything. I did learn some don'ts like don't drink OJ too soon post op and don't drink a frappacino no matter how tempting! Both made me sick, although not to the point of throwing up. Walk as much as you can. I'm on tylenol only now and I think that's due primarily to the walking I've done. My dog is loving it. Congrats to all my fellow bandsters and good luck to those upcoming. I'm going to close all my posts the same way... THIS IS OUR YEAR!
  2. Jenna, I have a very similar body type as yours, including starting weight and breast size/shape. Thanks for posting the pictures, it's about what I'm envisioning for myself after I lose weight. What was the brand name and type of your implants? Are they saline or silicone? Does the shape have a specific name? Details, girl -- you have my future boobs!

    August '07 -- Compare pre-op diets

Hey Daddy, I'm being banded on Aug. 6 as well. I'm doing a week of liquids. Mainly slim-fast shakes and occasionally Soup. Slim Fast does have a high protein variety (comes in chocolate and vanilla) that's slightly better than the regular. I use those and the strawberry Slim Fast Ultima.
  4. I dread the executive lunch after banding (I get banded in 5 days). One problem I see with business lunches is that people tend to eat fast in order to attend to business. I know it will look strange to take the small bites and chew forever. How do other people handle this? I wear suits every day. I recently weeded out the suits that make feel like a linebacker. I'm not going to buy any more clothes until I lose weight. Fortunately, I have lots of clothes to get me by. I'm more concerned about my gigantic shoe collection. I never drink at work functions so that's not an issue. I have a pretty visible job so I'm not looking forward to the "what happened to you" reactions that I'll get 6+ months from now. Of course, I don't think anyone would actually verbalize that but I think I'll definitely get some strange looks -- which I can totally live with to lose weight! My larger issue is realizing how much of my social life revolves around going to the hot/hip/swanky restaurants. I guess I'll cross that bridge when I get to it. But you all are right, as professional women we're under much more scrutiny than our male counterparts. Good luck to you all.

Cosmed in TJ ~ Dr. Quiroz

Thanks so much for posting this! I'm having my band put on in 5 days (can't wait) and was wondering about going back to TJ for PS after I lose the weight. If you don't mind me asking, what were the prices like? PM me if you like. Thanks!

Good luck to the August firsts!!

Hey fellow crazy ates, Good luck everyone! I feel nervous already for you 8/1 pioneers. Sending positive energy to everyone in bandland. I've said it before and I'll say it again; THIS IS OUR YEAR! :whoo: This is the year we finally make a BIG investment in ourselves and ONLY for ourselves! This is the year we start seeing the numbers on the scale go DOWN not UP. This is the year we reclaim the amazing people we all are; without feeling like hiding from the world. This is the year that starts it all. We WILL suceed together. Crazy Ates -- embrace this month and kick butt this year! PLEASE keep us all updated on your recoveries and new adventure. Nancy -- a crazy ate on 8/6
  7. Interesting thread... Me: Atheist, childless by choice (non-breeder), totally happy. BTW, there have been studies done that show that the more education you have, the less children you will likely have (generally speaking, of course there's exceptions). Usually, I adopt a "live & let live" attitude but there are serious ramifications to overpopulation and our planet. I've heard that Leonardo DiCaprio made a documentary about the environmental damage that we've done. It's called "The 11th hour." I don't know if it's out yet but it sounds like it's not a pretty picture.

Would you date a Single Father?

I'm going to be brutally honest; I wouldn't do it. I'm childless by choice and I love my freedom and lifestyle. I tend to gravitate toward older men because I find them more interesting and if they do have children, they're grown. But I know there are plenty of women who will and who also have children of their own. There's lots of wonderful people in this world, and it's better to know up front if you're not compatable. Best of luck to you.
  9. I love these crazy ates! I'm excited for my surgery on Aug. 6. Joannar & I are going to Dr. Ortiz. Anyone else going to MX on 8/6? THIS IS OUR YEAR EVERYONE! Best of luck to you all, Nancy

    Kindness to Strangers

Hi everyone, I'm being banded on Aug 6 (whoopee!) and I think one of my main goals for after I lose weight is purposefully looking overweight/obese people in the eye and smiling at them. Sure, I'll do it now but it doesn't mean as much I think coming from another heavy person. But if all of the new skinnies would do this, we could each make an impact and make the invisible visible. I'm sure you probably all do this already because of the empathy you all have, but I'm going to make a deliberate point to be kind to those who have traveled a difficult path and faced so much judgement from our society. I'm so inspired by all of you in this forum and can't wait to report on my own success! Keep up with the great transformations! Nancy
  11. Hi Portland Women! My friend Joanna and I are both being banded on Aug. 6 and we'd love to get involved with a support group! I was thinking about this today because I cheated all weekend long after doing really well on my pre-op diet. Grr! I'm so frustrated with myself right now. Nancy raven_2930@yahoo.com

    Did you see BIG MEDICINE??

I tivo Big Medicine and love the show. So does my sister and her husband, and she watched with great interest the lap band show (as did I). I usually can watch surgery shows no problem but the fat on the 800 # guy grossed me out so bad. I don't like the psychologist. She seems very trite and patronizing to me. If she ever tried to talk to me I'd tell her to shut up and get her skinny ass out! BTW, they do often repeat shows so keep on the lookout; I bet it will come up again.
  13. LOL Matt! Sorry, I have a fairly visible job so no racy pictures of me ever! Maybe you should do some field research and get back to me.
  14. OMG, thanks for this thread! "Going down there" is one of my fav. things to do with my boyfriend and I always "finish the job" so to speak. He agrees that he's very spoiled...anyway... Here's my question, one of my fav. positions is missionary only with my legs up around his neck. I'm getting banded in Aug, I know there's recovery so I'll need to be careful but has anyone done this particular position? Did it affect your port? Thanks everyone and sorry if it was TMI.
  15. I'm being banded on Aug. 6 by Dr. Ortiz in MX. Today's my first day on the board; hi everyone! Nancy
