  1. Wow congrats! Yeah the farting thing is tough, it took me three days. And a BM took a week with the help of milk of mag. But I agree with the girls. Haha you will be on thin sexy version of Kevin James. Haha Good luck! & I hope you have a speedy recovery.
  2. Omg. It has been rough lol. At first anything and everything I ate gave me gas and abdominal pain. Now, with the help of milk of mag (and bm lol) I can drink up without too much problem. I just feel so limited. But I can manage eddy's no sugar added Popsicles so that has been my go to when I just don't want Water, broth, etc. Also, I can tolerate Naked juices, I water it a bit down with water but it's oh so yummy. But that's only as a treat. Haven't had a hard time watching people eat. (just came back from treating my mom and cousin to pizza). But I do feel like I want to chew. And gosh I miss soda, although that's one thing I know I wont even try to play with anytime soon. Otherwise I'm just waiting until Monday impatiently for my mushy food. I'm going to get purée crazy lol.
  3. I'm not quite sure. Since I'm still in liquids lol. But I assume once you're able to eat solid food and can tolerate deli meats and eggs then you should be able to eat at your own pace. In pretty sure one would do the trick for us. But it's something fairly easy that I'm sure even the non-gb members of your family will enjoy.
  4. Ham egg cups: To assemble, grab a cupcake/muffin pan and place a thin slice of ham or turkey in each space. Sprinkle finely chopped red and green peppers at the bottom. Crack an egg into each ham "cup". Season with salt and pepper. Bake at 375 degrees for 10 mins. Remove it and serve. This is my mom incorporating ideas for when I'm able to eat. Nom! Nom! Nom!
  5. Let me know how that Chinese food goes. Lol. Sounds interesting. Lol.
  6. I'm one week post op and I'm having the same issues. I mentioned it to my surgeon yesterday and she said its only been a week since surgery and thats quite common. I should give it some time and if it doesn't get better within the next few weeks then we'll look into it more. It really sucks. For me it's like a mix of gas and stomach cramping. I wake up fine, but as soon as a drop of liquid touches my stomach, it's just this uncomfortable pain. Ugh! Good luck and hope yours gets better. If find a solution I'll keep you posted.
  7. Its been 5 days since surgery, and I've been home for 2. I've been drinking liquids. But have yet to feel full or hungry. Even if I drink quickly, the most I get is some gas but I'm even able to tolerate that. I'm starting to worry a bit. As I don't want to not feel restricted. -__-
  8. I'm finally going home. After being unable to drink liquids without doubling over in gas pains, I am finally able to tolerate liquids and pass gas (yippee!) Now to start a new chapter in this journey of mine.... Thanks to everyone for being so supportive. I greatly appreciate it!
  9. I will def be trying that. As I can't lay on my left side since I have a rose pen drain (painful). It really sucks to not be able to pass gas. I just hope that by next week I'm able to get in and out of bed without feeling like my stomach is going to burst. Ugh! I walk a lot and it helps. But as soon as I lay back down I'm dying again. I know this will all be worth it in the end. But this is SO hard for me.
  10. Thanks! The gas is intense. Haven't been able to have ice chips yet. Just had that test done to see if I have any leakage. Hopefully I can have ice chips soon. Any tips on the gas besides burping and walking? Again, thanks to all of you. I have such an amazing support system just on here.
  11. Wow. This is something alright. Lol Not "painful" but it's not pleasant. Pretty uncomfortable. The cotton mouth is far the worst ever. Thank you all for your well wishes and prayers! :-)
  12. Well, I'm sitting here waiting for my ride to the hospital. I'm excited, anxious and nervous. I barely slept. Kept waking up thinking I had eaten something. (lol). Oh boy. I can't wait for a healthier happier me! Good luck to everyone else having surgery today. I will keep you all in my prayers. See you all on the loser's bench!
  13. Woo hoo! My surgery is tomorrow too. Just got the call from the hospital saying to be there at 6am. No bowel prep for me. Lol Good luck!
  14. OMG! Congrats! It must feel SO amazing! You've done an AMAZING job!
  15. I'm wondering if anyone went through or is going through this. My surgery date is July 17th, and so far just about everyone I'm close to is on board with me and being supportive, even the few who wish I'd given diets another attempt seem to be on board. Except for ONE person. This person is always pointing out to me anything that's wrong about weight loss. Always talking about someone they know who is miserable and regrets the surgery. Or mentions how a neighbor of mine died during gastric bypass (it was his own fault, the man ATE and drank ALCOHOL past 12am day of surgery). And today texts me about Steve Carelis who "supposedly" died of gastric bypass complications. Of course I'm well aware of my complications and I am still very much on board with my surgery. But it just makes me SO nervous because I really don't want to be that small percent that has horrible complications or death, I'm pretty sure none of us want that or wish that on any of us. But it freaks me out..And it maddens me that people think that by bringing up complications and situations (real or imaginary) that they will make us change our minds. Ugh! Like I need anymore nervousness added 3 days prior to surgery.
  16. My surgery is July 17th and I'm nervous too. This liquid diet blows, but I have a newfound love for Crystal Light Raspberry Lemonade. I'm addicted lol. Good look to you both. We'll make it through and sometime next year we'll be hopefully helping out those who are in the same position as us.
  17. Very informative and I'm sure it'll help many. Btw, you did sound a tad but smart. Lol
  18. Woo hoo! Congrats! You're now one step closer to a healthier new you!
  19. I absolutely LOVE everyone's answers. Mine would be: •I live in NYC and commute by train, it would be nice to be able to fit in a single seat rather than 1 1/2 or 2 seats. • Being able to tie my shoelaces without feeling like I'm about to pass out. •Being able to dance without feeling like everyone is going "Hey look at that fatty dancing over there." • Being able to put on pantyhose with it tearing from my thighs being so huge. • Being able to shop with my mom, friends, etc without having to stop at the "plus" side (usually hidden in a dark corner) because nothing fits in the "normal" side. • Being able to meet up with old HS & elementary school friends without them thinking "Damn, she put on some weight" • Not feeling like the one person everyone points at descreetly while in social situations I JUST WANT TO BE ABLE TO BE HEALTHY AND HAPPY!
  20. In case you do, a way to go around the 6 months is to speak to your primary care physician. If he/she is aware that you have been in fact dieting for so long then maybe they would be willing to vouch for you.
  21. Good luck and have a safe and speedy recovery!
  22. The same thing happened to me. I started my journey around Feb but couldn't have my surgery until the summer (now). But as soon as I had most of my requirements done in April, I had my surgery scheduled for July even though they had openings available starting May. But since I work in a school I had to wait until July. The office was very compliant and understood. Had my pre op testing this past Friday and go for surgery on Tuesday. Just get whatever your insurance needs first, as they are the ones that can make or break the surgery (I've been denies twice before but with a diff surgeon) Good luck on your journey!
