It' been almost 1 year. I had my RNY 7/27/11 in Boston where I worked as a nurse. One day I ruptured the meniscus on my left knee, then found out I needed both knees replaced. I hadn't been able to kneel for years. I couldn't imagine having the replacements at my weight. It was really hard to get around on crutches. I got evaluated for gastric bypass ( I wanted lap band but was told that people with limited mobility don't do well).
I was very fearful of complications but my anesthesiologist was someone I knew. I woke up in recovery to a familiar voice. A nurse I worked with in my ICU days. She called the floor nurses and told them I worked at the hospital for 40 yrs so they gave me a private room.
The first few months were difficult with fatigue, dizziness, etc.
Well, now I feel fabulous. I've lost 117 pounds. I still need the knees fixed but I'm able to do Aquafit classes 4-5 times a week.
