Hi,
I had gastric bypass on July 2, 2012….it changed my life! I weighed 283 at my heaviest and now I weigh 123. I am a size 2 (previously 20). For my pre surgery diet, I did liquids….protein shakes, low sodium Soups without solids (ones like tomato) and lots of water!. I won't lie….it was difficult BUT it is soooooooooo worth it! You are going to be amazed at how your life will change!
good luck!

I had my surgery on July 2, 2012. My starting weight was 273. Today I weigh 126. What a journey! I had some minor complications (I had to have three dilations), but I would do this again tomorrow. I was a size 22 and today I am a size zero. That in itself is great but even better is the way I feel and the things I can do! I have gone horse back riding (something I wouldn't do before because I worried I would hurt the horse), gone down an alpine slide (something I couldn't do because I couldn't get up and down on my own) and now enjoy riding roller coasters (something I previously feared)! I love the new me!

My blood pressure today has been averaging around 80/50. I feel terrible. I called my PCP and he thinks it may be my blood pressure medicine, which he said to discontinue. Anyone else out there have this problem. I am a worry wart and the first thing that comes to my mind is internal bleeding. But I have been feeling really well, no blood in stool, no vomiting and no pain.......just dizzy

BirdAlert, Follow your gut! I also did not do well with my prediet. Only lost about 12 lbs in a year. I just kept putting it off. I did the 10 day liquid diet but struggled with it so much that I considered giving up. In fact some people on another forum when they read a post I put out about struggling suggested that I wasn't committed and should probably wait until I was ready. I am so glad I did not listen to them! I had my surgery on July 2nd. I weighed 248 on the day of surgery and 235 this morning. I am doing great. I am drinking my Protein, eating a little (of the right things), walking every day, not nauseous, haven't thrown up, pooping regularly (tmi?) and very, very happy that I did this. You are going to do fine!

How long were you post op before you were allowed to eat something and what did you have?

Maybe this will cheer you up a bit. My starting weight was 260. Surgery day weight 248 (7/2/2012). Today's weight 239! Eleven pounds gone since 7/2! I am on my way....you are too. Hang in there.

Wellcome! We have so much in common! I am 55, 2 grown children, 2grown step children and 7 grandchildren. I too am type two and lost my brother two years ago to the ravages of that disease. I wanted to share with you that I had my surgery on Monday, July 2. I have not had any sugar meds since! In face they have decided to move me from clear liquid to full liquid 2 weeks early because I am now hypoglycemic (something that I can manager once I start eating! Good luck on your surgery!

I agree. I am one week out and I am doing great but very, very, tired. I know it is just my body healing. Also, if you are on a post op full liquid diet, as I am, there is no Protein, so no energy.

I was on full liquids for two weeks pre op. I didn't know about it either until last minute when I attended a final education class, That meant I did not have a food funeral which might have been a good thing. I had my surgery Monday and now I an on a clear liquid diet for three weeks.....just Water, sugar free Jello, and G2.....it;s killing me

My surgery was Monday, no meds since the day before and today my blood sugar was 74!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOT WOOT WOOT!!!!!!!

Hi Amanda......I had my surgery Monday. The Water thing was crazy! They gave me ice chips after my swallow test and I have never had anything taste so good! I am home and I am only taking a half dose of my pain med in the morning and at night. So far today, I have not taken my morning dose. Only hurts when I get up and that is just for a few seconds........you will feel a little better every day!

omg...me too..... I cant trust a fart lol. It is terrible. I can't sleep on my side either. My doctor won't let me have anything but Clear Liquids for three weeks To make it even more indignant, the scale says I have gained a pound since surgery.......

Hi Ellody,
I had my surgery on Monday so I'm a day ahead of you. I feel you on the recovery room pains...OMG!!!! Thank goodness for morphine pumps! I feel a little better today, only taking the elixer in the morning and at night to help me sleep. I have belched my head off but seems to be getting better. I don't have a drain, do you? Thanks goodness, I was dreading the removal. My doctor does a three week clear liquid diet after so all I am getting is sf Jello, sf popsicles, Water, G2 and crystal light. It all tastes way too sweet to me but I'm getting it down! Good Luck to you

Wow, I am three days out and the scale says that I have gained three pounds . It hates me! I know in my smart brain that this isn't possible because I will be on Clear Liquids for three weeks! I guess we are all different and just have to hang in there

hot and humid here in Jacksonville, FL too. I am sorry to hear that you are feeling down. My surgery is Monday and I am looking forward to it and dreading it at the same time. My doctor says it is totally normal. Our body issues didn't start with the weight (at least mine didn't). Most of us let our happiness be dictated by our expectation of perfection....I am sure you look beautiful to those that matter and the rest, oh well. Your pic is beautiful and hang in there!

I went today for my final visit before surgery. I am indeed nervous, nervous! Talked a little to my doctor about it today and he said it is perfectly normal, so I am just trying to breathe!
They warn you for a reason

Chin up girl! You are still ahead of the game. Be thankful that you caught yourself when u did. Your pic is beautiful but I'm sure you are still beautiful. I will be 3 years post op July 2. I struggle to stay below 150. I weigh myself weekly and adjust my eating accordingly. You've got this!
