    Avocados

I wouldn't depend on avocados as a significant source of protein. They have only a few grams per avocado. By the time you ingest enough to get some protein, you will have taken in MANY calories in fat. Granted, it is a GOOD fat, but still....there are so many other ways to get protein.

    Crunch?

The bags of Glenny's Soy Crisps that I ordered from Amazon are 1.3 oz. ea.-- 2 servings each with 70 calories, 5 gms protein and 9 gms carbs. The protein quote on the front of the bag is 10 gms--not per serving, but per bag. So, yeah, it can be misleading if you don't read carefully. I love to spread homemade hummus on them, or even tuna salad made with Greek yogurt!

    Crunch?

Try Glenny's Low Fat Soy Crisps. I bought a case from Amazon. A serving has 70 calories, 1 gm. fat and 5 gms. of protein. Love them!

    Ticker Angst!

My ticker doesn't work either. When I try to edit it to change my weight, it won't do it. I click "Finish" and the same weight comes up as before. I'm down to 229 and it keeps reading 239....I know it's kind of silly, but it's nice to see the new weight "officially" on the ticker...

    The Gastric Bypass Vegan

Lots of good ideas, Mama! I eat animal products but also love vegan food. I do about 3 meals/week of it.

    Alcohol?

Is it really worth the sugar/empty calories & the possible effects on your healing tummy? Is it really worth being part of the growing statistics of post-rny alcoholics? It metabolizes quickly, meaning it goes straight to your head, then goes away pretty quickly, setting you up for a potential vicious cycle. I'm not against alcohol in general. I drank a LOT of wine pre-surgery (EVERY night with dinner), but I vow to never touch it again. To me, it's just not worth the risk. I sacrificed many things to have this surgery, Why sabotage myself? Just my 2 cents...

    Smoothie

I was told to keep away from raspberries & blackberries for a while. The seeds (and there are MANY) can irritate your pouch or even get stuck in one of the tiny pockets created by the staples...

    Protien Shake Question

I was mixing up a super high (45 gms) protein shake every morning, but yesterday my nutritionist told me that your body can't really use more than 30 gms at a time. I just did a little research and she appears to be correct.
  10. I'm 4 1/2 weeks out and I started taking smallish whole pills the other day. So far not a problem. I will always take chewable supplements, though as they say they are better absorbed.

    Smoothie

I would stick to making them at home. That way you know exactly what's in it. I have tons of "recipes" in my head for smoothies if you tell me what your favorite flavor combinations are...

    Full Length Mirror

I just recently bought one for the first time in several years. Even though I am still 60-70 # from my ideal weight, I'm finding it a great motivator. I can SEE the difference in my body weekly. It's also helping me decide which clothes to get rid of. I am NOT hanging on to the big clothes this time...

    Spaghetti-O

You might be surprised to find out how much sugar is in Spaghetto-O's....that's why kids love them...
  15. I need to attend a work-related cocktail party tomorrow night. I'm not concerned about the booze part---drinking alcohol just doesn't fit in with my diet plan, so I will stick with my Water..but I wanted to bring something that I could eat (who knows what other stuff other people will bring), and I'm on the soft food stage. So, I pureed a can of cannellini Beans with goat cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, fresh thyme, garlic, and ground walnuts. Everyone else can spread it on crackers, but I will eat a few tablespoons, as is...Yum...put it in the fridge so the flavors can meld, then I will bring it to the party at room temperature tomorrow.
  16. I made seared sea scallops with sesame pea puree and mango coulis...yummy!
  17. Well, I don't really use recipes...I just made it up. In addition to being a teacher, I sometimes work as a private chef for a family that eats ONLY healthy food. Here's what I did: I pureed fresh garden peas (you could use frozen!) with a little sesame oil and low sodium soy sauce. I added home made chicken stock until it became the texture I wanted. Then I pureed a mango with lime juice, cilantro, Vietnamese chili garlic sauce, and rice wine vinegar. I seared the scallops in peanut oil. Be sure they are dry when you put them in the pan, and don't crowd them, otherwise they will steam and you won't get good caramelization. Frozen scallops do not sear well because they are full of Water...Plate it up and there you go. Even people who have not had WLS will love it...that is assuming they are lovers of seafood...
  18. At Jenneliza: I ate 3 med. scallops, and they went down so well. The smooth textures of the pea & fruit helped, too. And Ladydee, yes they are pricy inland, but I buy them right off the boat where I live, so I don't pay anywhere near $1/per scallop. They are basically low fat pure protein and so quick to prepare---the ultimate healthy fast food for me. They are also delicious raw. I make a "cocktail" with the diced scallops, avocado, watermelon, and pickled ginger....YuM!

    Coconut Water

Careful___even if something doesn't make you dump, doesn't mean it's a good thing to drink...
  20. If anyone asks, just tell them you are watching your diet and trying to eat healthfully---not a lie, right?

    Peanut Butter

Love PB2!!! Mix it in a chocolate shake & you get that whole Reese's flavor thing going~
  22. How soon after surgery did you try swallowing smallish pills? One month? or longer? I almost gag eating them crushed in apple sauce...just want to swallow the pill whole...

Wow, I was told to crush for at least the first month...well Tues. is my 1 mo. surgiversary, so, I swallow I will...lol
